Good evening Guys,
Many thanks for the WD's after the lay selection Ninetofive (2/1f) finished unplaced in the opener at Kelso. In contention until the 3rd last flight, but was soon under pressure and never troubled the leaders thereafter, eventually beaten 13L. A lacklustre run (exactly what layers wanted) and i think he will need much further in time and may do better in handicaps. Good to get another one on the board, but i still have a bit to do before year end to make this 2022 thread profitable, but i'm taking 2 weeks off for Christmas/NY (1st and 6th are public holidays here) so that will give me a lot more free time at least, wherever i am. My daughter and her Brasilian mother were decked out in Green/Yellow earlier and went to a München restaurant where tonight's WC game is being shown. There's a zillion of them living/working in the city (even a few ex Embraer engineers in our offices) so it will be manic. I mentioned to my WhatsApp group that my daughter wouldn't have a clue about betting odds, but she asked me i could put 10 euros on Brasil tonight to pay for dinner, maybe she's eating at MCD. Good luck and have a nice evening all. |

Good morning, Andrew. Your daughter couldn't get much in McD for that money. I visited one near me in France a couple of weeks ago, for something quick, and it cost 21euros. Goodness knows what they charged me for. I wanted to grab something at the KFC, I really eat well when I can, but they don't do chicken portions, only strips. Is it the same in Germany?

Good morning Laurie,
Hope you are enjoying life where you are (at least for now). As for MCD, i'm not a regular by any means, once a week, maybe not that often, but i did go to the one in Paris a couple of consecutive days during Arc weekend (after a hotel breakfast i might add) as they sell Pancakes and Maple Syrup. The Pancakes are not that good to be honest (closer to thermoplastic) but the location is good, sitting on the Champs Elysees and watching the world go by. I was joking about my daughter eating at MCD, as you mentioned, she wouldn't get much for 4+ euros (the profit on Brasil) but she didn't bet anyway. She has no idea about betting odds and thought if she bet Brasil to win, it would pay for her Brasilian meal (fat chance). I was curious about MCD cost comparison in European cities, here is a link. München down in 47th place that surprised me. https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/region_prices_by_city?itemId=3®ion=150&displayCurrency=EUR Good luck |

Hi Andrew. In the UK now until next year. I cannot understand what all the fuss is about with French food. Not found a decent French restaurant yet. I don't eat McD unless at gunpoint but we were shopping and I wanted something quick and unpalatable. And the McD's in our area are nearly always empty. No surprise there. I have eaten in Germany, mostly the Dusseldorf area, and do enjoy their sausages and chips with sauce. If I remember it is currywurst. Does that sound right?
|
|
By:
Laurie, currywurst is correct, very popular in the DLR canteen (when the queues are longest)
The dark sausages are OK, but not the White. |

I remember I went into a takeaway after studying the menu outside and practising the lingo before ordering Hanchen and Pommes Frites. I think. The guy inside said "do you mean chicken and chips, mate".

Good afternoon Guys,
A few decent race meetings over the next 3 days starting with a graded card at Newbury this afternoon and several potential 2023 Cheltenham runners including Champ who will be trying to win his 5th race at the course in 6 runs. I will not be backing this one, or anything at the meeting, interesting though it is, instead i've layed one at Doncaster, Everyday Champagne (2.55). Up in trip to 24f this afternoon, but oddly enough has an entry over 20.5f on Tuesday. Did win over hurdles at Hexham on his penultimate run, but the form is woeful and his run LTO didn't show any improvement. Making his chase debut and the fences here are a decent test for a novice. It looks a wide open, tricky race and anyone of 5 can win. I did notice Nick Gifford sends one up from Findon, a fair journey. Good luck and have a nice Friday all. Laurie ![]() If Constitution Hill doesn't win tomorrow i will be eating at MCD for the rest of 2022 ![]() |

Think Henderson was raving about a new improved Champ, today will be interesting.
2.55 non of the horses here have won or placed second over fences,I thought My Bad Lucy was an interesting runner. |

Brigust if you believe anything this clown tells you,you have a lower IQ than I gave you credit for.Btw currywurst is simply a Bratwurst with curry ketchup, not two different sausages like Ikea man claims, white when steamed or boiled, brown when grilled or fried, more proof that he a dipstick!! hth

I think the reference to a white sausage was to weisswurst -a Munich speciality that is not supposed to be served after noon .

They use Weisswurst in Bavaria to make their Curyywurst you thick as mince dipstick.

Tiger/Manoleeds,
Both correct. The typical 'Bavarian' Weisswurst breakfast is common here as you would expect. Every Friday morning in the office kitchen, boiled White Sausages (i hate the smell) Mustard and Pretzels. The darker sausages are OK, but nowhere near as good as traditional English for example. As for type of Currywurst, it can change with the state/region, but in München you can buy White or Dark. |

Recipe:
To create authentic German currywurst Look for good quality, fine grind German sausage, preferably boiled. Definitely not cured and if smoked – very, very lightly. The following options are relatively easy to find. finely ground, pre-cooked Bavarian bratwurst (like this one we used to make Brats in Beer Sauce) or Weisswurst Bockwurst Oberländer/Wollwurst Knockwurst (originally called Knackwurst in Germany) – it has a fine grind, appropriate snappiness and thickness |
|
By:
Appropriate thickness sums you up Tigger,no Bavarian or self respecting German uses anything other than Bratwurst, the original and ONLY currywurst!!! hth Thicket as chompy would have said!!

Good chilly 3c morning Guys,
My only selection yesterday, a lay of Everyday Champagne (7/4f) wasn't a cause for celebration as he won, although what the form amounts to is open to question as 8 fences were omitted due to low sun. Before they entered the home straight he was back in 3rd place and i thought we were OK, but to be fair, he did pull out a little extra on the long run-in (bypassing 4 fences). Would he have won with all fences to be jumped, difficult to say of course, but it's not important anyway, it was a losing bet, end of. My evening didn't improve as i braved heavy rain and went to Kennedys Sportsbar in the city centre to watch England v USA on screen, a worse decision than my lay selection, albeit no financial impact. What an abysmal performance from a team trading around 8/1 to win the world cup outright. I guess if there is a positive we didn't lose and qualification to the next stage is a formality, but listening to Southgate and Kane during post-match interviews is cringeworthy (it was always going to be a difficult game etc) how many goals would Brasil or Spain get against an 'average' side aka USA. Rant over. ![]() On to this afternoon and regular readers know i'm a massive fan of Constitution Hill and have been since i saw him run at Sandown on debut lst season. I didn't back him then, but in both runs since. To save typing, i posted the below on another thread earlier. Only one runner to beat in my opinion and the only possible negative is a tactical/messy pace, but i doubt this will occur anyway. 5 runners, but forget the outsider who can't win on form. Tommy's Oscar and Not So Sleepy have never won a Grade 1 outright, have it all to do on ratings and are probably not good enough anyway, leaving a stablemate to beat and in match bet you would be lucky to get 1/5. You could argue the Cheltenham Supreme field fell apart off a fast pace, but he was the winner from a long way out and the time/sectionals were good. Newcastle is basically flat as opposed to Sandown and Cheltenham and a shorter run-in than the latter, but by the time they jump the final flight he will be in front. Epatante was cruising before the 2nd last in this race last season, but didn't find a great deal on the run-in, possibly due to fitness and the latter has to be considered this afternoon. Odds of 1.33 earlier are much better than i envisaged, but good things don't always win as we saw with Baaeed recently and nothing surprises me in racing. Is CH really 22L (eased up) better than Jonbon, only time will tell, but if he is and wins impressively this afternoon and again during the festive season, he's going to be very short odds to win in March, in fact, PP will probably offering odds on him winning the boat race. More later, as i want to watch The Opening Show and hope the lovely Adele is on. Good luck and have a nice Saturday all. Laurie Many thanks for the kinds words, i can speak on behalf of all of us that met you at Ascot, it was a nice afternoon and at least Happysandwich didn't kick off when Baaeed lost. ![]() |

Good afternoon Guys,
My only bets so far are in the Fighting Fifth, but i often put a selection up in the major handicaps at decent odds and i have a tentative W/4TBP for the Coral Gold Cup (Hennessy) in 3.05 Newbury. Mind you, my record in these typical races is a bookies benefit, although i put up Botox Has in the NH big race comp last week (won @ 17/2) but didn't on here as i was travelling in Sweden (sods law). My selection is the Neil Mulholland trained Lord Accord. A consistent chaser (only twice out of the placings in 8 runs) winner of a class 2 race over 25f at Cheltenham in his penultimate run and ran well in 2nd behind Frodon in the Badger Chase LTO (would have finished closer but for a mistake) albeit receiving plenty of weight. Runs off the same mark of 136, but is actually 3 lb in on his revised rating. Of course these large field handicaps are often difficult to find the winner, but he's in with a shout and current odds of around 17 are fair enough. Good luck and have a nice Saturday all. Lampus Thank you and greetings to the best county in GB |

Thanks, i've always liked the horse and was reasonably confident today; once Nico injected a bit of pace, the race was as good as over. Of course there are tougher tasks ahead, but in my opinion he will not be beaten this season. Honeysuckle is a wonderful mare, but i would be all over a match bet with CH to beat her, even with her allowance. |

Lay Post
Carlisle 2.30 - Ucanaver A 6 year old Maxios gelding trained by Anthony Honeyball in Dorset. Dam was a 2-time winner over hurdles; 4 offspring, several hurdle wins, but no chase win or places yet (only 6 runs) Lightly raced, only 9 runs in total (4 bumper, 4 hurdle and a chase). A reasonable record over hurdles (2-0-1 from 4 runs) although was fortunate to win LTO (11/10f) when the runner-up made mistakes at the penultimate and final flights, losing by 0.75L with the 3rd and 4th not far away. Was made 2nd favourite (9/4) on chase debut, but didn't look a natural by any means, with mistakes at the first couple of fences and subsequently PU. Generally raced over 16f (a couple of runs over 19f and 20.5f) but steps up significantly in trip to 25f this afternoon. Runs off the same mark of 117 conceding weight to the other 2 (albeit only 1 lb to the likely favourite). A small field of 3, but a tight handicap and it could be a tactical race. Although he had ability to win over hurdles, has to show he can jump fences on a sharp course this time, but even if he can, will he stay well enough and his 2 rivals are certainly capable of winning (one succesful over fences, the other a 24f P2P winner) hence my reason for the lay selection. Lay @ 2.98 Good luck all. |
