Loads of poorer nations finally get a star of their own and then the golden dollar puts a first world flag around their shoulders.

China and Romania have had tennis stars before the UK, especially in the women's game. She's lived in UK since age 2 gone to school and been coached in the UK and wouldn't regard herself as anything other than British. She's not like Konta or Rusedski. She first picked up a racquet in the UK, gone to school and trained there all her life. Nothing to do with coming to Britain for money. Her folks are both financial executives.

She loves nothing more than visiting Romania twice a year to taste her grandmothers delicious cooking and speaks mandarin at home with her mother....the times friday September 10th.

Just reporting in case anyone missed it

Emma's 18. She's lived here since she was 2. This is where she learned to play tennis and to look both ways before crossing the road. She went to school in south London and got two A-levels this summer.

Portman that is unfair and untrue. Thr 'r' word is an easy weapon in todays society. My irk is that poor kids from lower class backgrounds never get a lookin at tennis in UK

what I dont get with the English public is they jump on a bandwagon the majority have never heard of Emma  till this week and Emma is nothing to do with any of you really yet you support her like she is one of your sisters.
a bit like the world cup and euros when everyone became some sort of fan when really they never watch football or are never connected to the sport.

@Celtic warrior -- Not sure why poor kids can't play tennis. There are tennis courts in all the parks round this way, balls are cheap, rackets, dunno.

Thing is, if you look at Tim Henman and Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu, the common factor is their parents were into tennis. So maybe it is not about money or class but that most schools don't play tennis so it is down to the family.

Don't be so cynical..the medical break was not her choice but would have been the tournament rule as you cannot drip blood all over the court these days plus which girl disappeared for ages after losing the first set.

Well done kid. She has got the will to win as well as the ability. That comes from being encouraged and reinforced by your role models, such as your parents and extended family. If you have young people around you inspire them to be the best they can be. Happy

Channel four has long been hijacked by the virtue singing bleeding heart Highbury communists. I remember it's first day when it really was the only forth channel and was about pure TV not playground politics.

Five go wild in Dorset
Brookside

Noe look at it, typified by channel four news each evening.

C4 news is excellent, both in content and presentation.

Tory government runs scared of this programme as highlighted by their refusal to have Ministers appearing to answer questions during the height of the Covid pandemic.

Who wants to be harangued on camera by a Highbury communist posing as an impartial journalist, what's in it for them?
I'm sure they'd speak to impartial news presenters, but there are none.

dont bet on tennis now wheres that switch sparrow I thought you were old school I was wrong
I  just detest these silly middle aged people who have never met her have zero connection with her yet they pretend they are connected at the end of the day ask emma for a fiver or her family for her autograph and she will tell you to feck off.
as for ramruna stating everyone knew her at wimbledon she was 500/1 plus to win spoty now she has won the usa open she is 1/20 I  say the usa open victory is the reason why everyone knows her.

ps emma seems a lovely sweet girl top draw tennis player but if any of you walked across the same path as her I would be surprised she would be allowed to speak to you hence I dont understand peoples new affiliation with her that is all
