The lay bets were placed by a limited liability company?

These lay bets were initially placed with a limited liability company, which placed them in turn with Betfair, on what appeared to be a combined basis with other such bets.  The Committee was surprised to hear that such a mechanism is possible, as it could hinder identification of the possible beneficiaries of lay betting.

For over 20 years exchange betting has existed and still the governing bodies don't know how it works.

I got the impression from reading the report that they were being very very careful in how they expressed themselves as they certainly did not want to infer that that fine upstanding member of the racing community had any connection whatsoever with any nefarious goings on.

They must have thought the limited liability co would be ample cover as otherwise pretty naive to go for it 3 times in a row on the same horse.

Reading in the article about all the examples of big drifters getting laid for substantial sums, 6 months is a bit of a disgrace.

Several years or Warned Off seems more applicable

The O'Leary brothers had a big bust up with Davy Russell whenever he rode light for Charles Byrnes because it was such a struggle for Russell to do light weights and it would mess with his head for weeks afterwards. They couldn't fathom why he was so keen to ride lowly rated horses for Charles Byrnes when as retained jockey for Gigginstown he had the pick of O'Leary's dream team of thoroughbreds.

I think it was a Betfair forumite who offered the following explanation when one of Byrnes' well backed runners bolted up after a string of previously underwhelming performances:

"It's amazing the improvement Charles Byrnes' runners can achieve by means of the application of Davy Russell and cash". I paraphrase but it's a great line.
