A few times recently when logging into Betfair I've had an error page pop up and say site not secure (or something along those lines)
Just logged out and back in again but obviously something not 100% just now with the site |

In an attempt to reassure customers that their money is safe (and to prevent them from withdrawing their balances on a daily basis) - A spokesperson from Betfair said...

Nope - said nothing - yer on yer own!

I find it very bard to believe that accounts are being hacked & BetFair is not being held responsible. Any other company would make their site "safe". If the only way to make the site safe is to enforce 2 step authentication, then so be it. Also this alleged hacking has not made it to the press as far as I can see. I remember when the Lush site was hacked. It made the national press & there was a lot of publicity with Lush acting quickly. I find it hard to believe that BF is doing nothing. If BF is indeed doing nothing to safeguard the site, then it is negligent. The essence of proof is on the hacked account holder. If he can prove it, then BF must be held responsible.

With the gambling review upcoming and deposit limits very likely I thought it'd just be a case of holding a big balance in here.
That's gone for a burton now. |

The GDPR legislation forces companies to have to announce if their site has been hacked or face huge fines.
Therefore bf havent been hacked, individual account details have been cracked because they werent strong enough/didnt use 2SA |

perhaps they have appointed Baroness (
) Teflon Dido Harding as head of security - she does seem to have a lot of jobs and it would explain quite a lot imo.I'm assuming if I do get hacked - they will offer me 10 free spins on the Virtual e-Crocodile Bingo Roulette..... so every cloud... etc. |

There must be many bookies with large amounts in their accounts on here. I'm wondering if accounts are being hacked, why it's not more widespread. There must be many oldies like me who find 2SA too complicated to set up being IT ignorant so there are plenty of accounts to choose to hack. It appears like a hassle (although I could be wrong). I'm relying on a strong password.

By:
Set myself a daily loss limit just incase, id hazard a guess that the people hacked use the same user and password for another site, which has been hacked.

Computing power nowadays has far exceeded the point where random single words (with or without numbers) are secure.
The advice is to select a series of random words (4or 5 words) |

I've been getting a similar message James when logging into the forum for the first time on a day...the second time i do it the there's no message if that's the case good chance the forum is leaking data imo.links are unsecure

Ive said this on the other thread....but theres a strong chance those hacked have used the same password as to another site, which itself has been hacked (you can find out on the pwned site) and then sold on the dark web and all sites will have been opportunistically tried with that password and email combo, some will unlock because people are lazy

why would the perpetrator do the trade whilst its obv his acc is actively being used? crazy.

It isn't a feedback thread - it's a link to livechat or similar to give feedback.
You don't have to be clever to install 2FA. If you have a reasonably up to date phone and it has the google play store on it - just follow the instructions on the betfair site. |

I'm on a desk-top computer.

Do you have a reasonably up to date phone and it has the google play store on it?

There are youtube videos on how to do 2SA, but even with my great edumacation & high intelligellillence it looks like too much trouble. You Eric & I are alike!
|
|
By:
dave, I Wouldn't know how to use an up to date phone, sorry. It's as much as I can manage to switch on and log-in with this thing.
IF I get cleaned out by a hacker, and it would be much, not like some of you guys, I suppose I WOULD.... have to call it a day. ![]() |

Isn't the forum 3rd party? |

By:
Slicer, how can, and why should, internet security be too much trouble?
But it just is, and screwing people like us is just another computer-game. |
|
By:
And why won't BF deal with it?
Without losers like me where would the winners be? |
|
By:
Exactly Eric. That's why a strong password should be enough. I'm an old codger, IT ignorant and not too ashamed to admit it. I feel there must be more to these accounts being hacked on here than meets the eye otherwise there would be much more fuss about it. I for one would not let it rest if my account was hacked & would make sure the world & his wife knew about it!

It isn't a feedback thread - it's a link to livechat or similar to give feedback. More than 3500 views on the other "hacking" thread - but not a dickie bird from Betfair. They don't do feedback thread Dave ![]() |

Best not logging directly into the forum. Log into website then just click the forum link
As said above, the forum isnt always secure |

eric and slicer
You might as well leave the internet entirely if you arnt going to even attempt to help yourself. Even banks can refuse you a refund if you have been defrauded online while not taking sufficient remedy to defend yourself |

That's the way i always do it James....but still get the not secure message

Aye, think the forum is ran by another company?

Really surprised to hear of so many people whose phones can't download the authenticator. Mine is at least 5 years old.

If, like me, you use the password management in google chrome to store passwords or even to suggest and store random passwords then it's a good idea to set up 2-fa for your google account also
A few weeks ago I got an email from google saying someone had tried to access my google account (where they could access passwords for many accounts). Hacker had got my email address and my password, presumably from hacking another account and I have to admit I often used the same password for accounts that I didn't consider risky. Fortunately 2-fa on the google account stopped them getting in |

dustybin, I don't buy bank or use my card online.
All my bills are direct deb and if I can't buy with cash or cheque I do without. And if my bf a/c DOES go down the toilet there WILL.... be no way back. |

go see if you been pwned, I bet you have Even Paddy Power got hacked some years ago, as did moneybookers, and facebook to name numerous others and all passwords ended up on the dark web |
|

but eric you are being given advice and you are flopping around all pathetic saying you cant do it
Then you will fall victim at some point as people will target you |
