It was not the rules that were at issue but there had to be a point where the Clerk gave instructions for the flight to be dolled off and his staff were slow in carrying out the instruction. A few seconds earlier and the arrows would have been in place and any jockey jumping it would have been dq and banned.

Looking at Sparrow's post above, why have all the horses been pushed down a place? Surely it's just DHARMA RAIN - that's it. How can you be placed in a race which you did not officially complete?

The only people who should be paid in the place market are those who backed DHARMA RAIN or laid any of the disqualified horses.

Think Jockeys took the safe option , 2 nutters with Signs on course and Injured horse ,Then man with Gran Prix flag arrive after they gone by , Shambolic from Fontwell regardless of Rules ,
no wonder no action taken against Jockeys ..

Any one on winner pre-race will need to be doing the lottery this week .

After hearing evidence from each rider involved, the BHA announced that the disqualified jockeys would face no further punishment for taking the wrong course.

This was due to the genuine cause for concern created by the unfortunate positioning of the racecourse staff who were carrying the arrows across the track just as the field was approaching the third-last hurdle.

The BHA's official stewards' report stated: "Taking into account, on this occasion; the poor visibility, and the illusion that the chevrons had been placed in the hurdle – which was caused by the
chevrons being carried across the course behind the hurdle, which gave riders’ cause for concern for the safety of all involved – no penalties were imposed on any rider."

The fact the jockeys who took the wrong course didn't get a ban tells you everything you need to know: the ground staff messed up.

Voiding the race would've made more sense.

Some days you get unexpectedly lucky; other days you feel like you've been completely shafted Plain

I have to admit I was extremely lucky today, as a buyer of Fontwell "99 Distances" on the spreads. The maximum make-up of 99 for the final race made a grand total of 192. The trade was already well ahead prior to the last race, so I just let it run.

Believe me, I've been on the wrong side of several 'results' over the years (to much bigger stakes) and I feel the pain of anyone who has lost due to this race today.

I finished the day marginally up, but only due to this result Crazy

Is it a coincidence that this race and the fiasco at Sandown were the last race of the day in bad light.
By:

When: 15 Nov 20 23:02
no need to void the race as 1 horse took the correct course .

if it was the other way around where 1 horse took the wrong course and they voided the race would that have been any different

does the data tell you when 1 finishes? does the data know whwn a jockey rides out or eases up? another walofs
By:

When: 16 Nov 20 22:27
To be honest, I'd say "when a jockey rides out or eases up" is alofs as a statistical measure Laugh
How on earth would you quantify it in a data file? 0=Winner ridden out, 1 = winner eased up?
And what about if the second place jockey eases up whilst the leader rides out?

I'm not looking at individual race markets; I'm looking at a meeting as a whole, so a collection of 6-8 races (and now 9 or sometimes 10 races per card since Covid-19 came along).

I have plenty of data and criteria to work with and if you think it's alofs, that's fine by me, each to their ownCool
