And apparently, saddo, presentations with coronary conditions well down too.

There may well be excess deaths, REDROB, but that has happened before, the only difference being the governments of the day didn't think it necessary to scare the sh*t out of people, destroy jobs and businesses, and decimate civil liberties.

The Office Of National Statistics( ONS), estimate some 65,000 excess deaths in Britain, compared to an average of the last 5 years.
When did this magnitude ' happen before '

And if this useless Gov. had taken lockdown action just one week earlier, stopped infected people coming into Britain, and  not issued instructions to hospitals to transfer their elderly patients into care homes, tens of thousands of lives could have been saved.

And referring to PPI masks as ' face nappies ' sums you up.

"ESTIMATE'? Is this like Ferguson and his pals ESTIMATING that if Sweden didn't lock down there would be 40,000 deaths in that country by May 1st? Come back when you have got the ACTUAL numbers and we'll compare them to the previous years when there have been excess deaths, and ask did it justify destroying civil liberties, businesses and jobs, and neglecting essential health services such as cancer and coronary?

And if this useless Gov. had taken lockdown action just one week earlier, stopped infected people coming into Britain, and  not issued instructions to hospitals to transfer their elderly patients into care homes, tens of thousands of lives could have been saved.

Well we can agree that they're useless and about what happened with the care homes, but we can disagree about the effects of lockdown. Lockdown started March 23rd and hospital deaths peaked April 8th, too soon for lockdown to have had an effect. You have no evidence whatsoever that placing healthy people under house arrest saved a single life, but it will almost certainly cost plenty, eg delays in cancer services, diagnoses / treatments.

And referring to PPI masks as ' face nappies ' sums you up.

I refer you to the Fauci video posted previously and any number of daily briefings where we were told by the likes of Whitty that the evidence for the benefits of wearing face coverings was weak.

Please post me the link to the major scientific study on face nappies that made them ALL change their minds in June.

FACE NAPPIES AND WHAT THE NEWSNIGHT REPORTER DISCOVERED

During a BBC interview in March, UK Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr Jenny Harries, outlined that mask wearing can do more harm than good. She said: “In fact you can actually trap the virus in the mask and then start breathing in.”

Her fellow UK Deputy Chief Medical Officer Johnathon Van Tam went further at a Downing Street press conference on April 3 and claimed: “There is no evidence that general wearing of face masks by the public who are well affects the spread of the disease in our society.”

He went on to say “In terms of the hard evidence and what the UK government recommends, we do not recommend face masks for general wearing by the public.

He went on to say “In terms of the hard evidence and what the UK government recommends, we do not recommend face masks for general wearing by the public.”

But the UK government has now back–tracked on this advice and has made face masks mandatory in shops in England. Why did it do this, when its own scientific advisers have repeatedly advised against such a move?

The answer to this riddle appears to have been given on July 12 by Deborah Cohen, the medical correspondent of BBC Newsnight. Ms Cohen claimed that the World Health Organisation reversed its advice against wearing masks because of political lobbying.

She stated on Twitter: “We had been told by various sources the WHO committee reviewing the evidence had not backed masks but they recommended them due to political lobbying.”

What is your problem George? Is it really that you don't want to wear a mask in a shop? Is it really that? Your civil liberties are at risk and screw other peoples liberties. Please don't think you are trying to save people from being deceived, they are more clever than that and probably, you won't believe this but maybe, even cleverer than you.
Every year jobs are lost, every year businesses cease trading it is not something new. If it is the right business I am sure it will survive.

I wear a mask to protect other people and their loved ones. Yes, it is inconvenient in a small way but I think we may well come out of this better and stronger and with more appreciation of life itself.

I don't think there is any place in society for those who think we should kill more people just because they are frail or at risk. I think we, as a society, should do everything we can to protect lives. That is what humanity is, isn't it? Caring for others. Not a lot of that coming from you George just complaining about wearing a mask. Sad.

How about showing a bit of morality? A bit of compassion and a bit of hope for the future and encouragement for others? How about that?

I wear a mask to protect other people and their loved ones.

Brigust1, what is your evidence that by wearing a mask you are doing what you claim?

It's look like you've regurgitated the government propaganda in the adverts, but I'll await your answer with interest, and I refer you to my post made at 08:14.

And by the way Brigust1, once you've answered that, we'll move on to what my "problem" is, and I can onluy assume you haven't bothered reading the thread properly, because what is it about a post like this that you don't understand?

...did it justify destroying civil liberties, businesses and jobs, and neglecting essential health services such as cancer and coronary?

REDROB
When: 30 Sep 20 10:41
So George, earlier you implied that most of the covid deaths are people with underlying health issues who had limited life expectany anyway.

As they are amongst the biggest killers in this country I'm assuming you mean people with heart conditions and cancer sufferers.

But now you are saying that people with those same conditions are being neglected by having appoointments cancelled.

So covid patients with underlying health conditions are of no consequence, but after culling them you want them replaced with patients with the same health conditions, who by your admission have limited life expectancy.

Perhaps you think the NHS should only treat healthy people George.

'It has estimated that 986,000 women across the UK missed their mammograms due to breast screening programmes being paused.

UK coronavirus cases soar by 7,143 in largest rise of outbreak
This breaks down to almost 838,000 women in England, 78,000 in Scotland, 48,000 in Wales and 23,000 in Northern Ireland.

Among these women, the charity estimates that there could be 8,600 women who are now living with undetected breast cancer.'

This is just one type of cancer. Does showing humanity to those who need protecting from covid mean we must show less humanity to these people?

No I did not, I asked, there is a question mark at the end of the post.

But it still leads back to my main point, are the measures proportional (given excess deaths in a year do happen from time to time) and justified given the consequences on the economy and people's health, of placing people under house arrest.
By:

It's quite polarised George, like any big issue. Some people think avoiding a disease altogether is worth the lives of those who already have one, and some of us will disagree.
I dropped someone off for cancer treatment this morning, she considers herself lucky to have got cancer before covid came.
How awful to think that.
By:

George - I wouldn't worry too much about what Redrob types out, he reads or hears whatever he wants it to be, just to suit his agenda, that was proved earlier. It's the way of the left "what he implied", "what he really meant was", "he was thinking this or that". The MSM do exactly the same.

The issue for me is that more people will die if everything is opened up and relaxed, and other people will die with lockdowns due to cancer treatments being missed, many other illnesses untreated, and there will be people losing businesses, homes, jobs etc and no doubt suicides will go up. The people on the left will be making a big issue of lockdowns when others are losing their lives through lack of treatment (it will start to make more headlines), and if they open things up then the left will be making big issues about people losing their lives to Covid. It really is a no win situation for the Government, and it would probably be exactly the same situation if another mob was in charge - although most on the left love to think it would be totally different.
