I couldn't bet on 'no' stewart. It means, in effect, the crisis would have to go on for longer and more people die for me to collect as Trident alluded to earlier in the thread (moral issue).
I've bet on 'yes' Looks a loser having shortened 8 ticks and people 'in the know' are on. I'll lay a little more. Hopefully things change quickly. |

The idiots who are not taking the "lockdown" seriously eg sunbathers, those addicted to daily physical and active exercises and those socialising in numbers and not practising social distancing in public even at this present moment should remember an extension a near certainty if the numbers do not stabilise or head south. And, it will be deemed necessary and justified by the majority.
The more foolish the public are, the more likely an extension for the "lockdown". If anything, if the numbers stabilise I'd like to see an extension of a week to 2 weeks to be absolutely sure the country is getting to grip with this imported deadly virus. A bit of pain, frustration and inconvenience is a prize worth paying to rid of Covid-19 asap. |

This virus is volatile and we dont know alot about it. Im entiled to my opinion on a forum. I want things to improve as much as anyone. But... We are very early still in this pandemic.

That's because at the moment there is no increased activity Fire and Ice. Its all very well to slag people off for ignoring the lockdown (which is fair) but you have to say that there are very little numbers to stabilise so why extend it? This isn't a bit of pain or inconvenience it is a trashing of the economy and a disaster for many families who have no work to go back to.

Fire-and-Ice Because each day that goes by we are slowly learning about the virus.( And i must empathise slowly). Regarding the lockdown its my View that a return to some semblance of normality, we may risk a second wave of severe disease and more people die.
The anti body test would be a start, there is no rule book for this, it has never been done before in modern times. Just a view |

Just think about the advice given by the NHS staff if one does not agree with Tory politicians. We are all doing it for them (NHS staff) as I'm sure they'd rather be in our shoe hibernating instead on the frontline risking their lives and family daily.

At the end of the day i'm sure everyones views will be determined by whether you actually know someone who has been seriously ill/died with this disease or not. I would think that in 2 months time if you're back at work you'll be wondering what all the fuss was about, but if you're unfortunate enough to have close family/friends die through this pandemic then you'll totally know why, especially if the last you see of a loved one is when they go off in an Ambulance and can't even go to their funeral.

can you imagine the scenario without world wide lockdowns , quite scary also if you look at Europe cases in general are starting to fall so the strategy is having an effect , with as few deaths as possible , i would say that's a result long term 2/3 months in limbo is a very small price to pay if less folk lose family members before their time |

Just as a contrary view and I'm quite happy with my current restrictions other than the so called experts telling us so how do we definitely know our lockdown is reducing the number of positive cases because we have no idea what the numbers would have been under a different scenario.

how would they possibly know its the best thing for society when so little is know about this virus so far , one of the curves is a learning one right now they don't seem to care too much for NHS either , i never seen a coping strategy for NHS/care sector accompany any of these thoeries tbh only ever economy benefits |

Politicians for a start Stewart, then any one getting their moment in the sun. Remember they told us 1 million were going to die from bird flu. People will make fortunes from this if they haven't already. There is an old saying, never let a crisis go to waste.

The reason why people are staying at home is simple. The huge majority understand the pandemic and lives at risk protecting the NHS. This is not a draconian measure that will continue for the future in the UK.

People will no doubt make fortunes from this, but some will undoubtably have lost fortunes already from this crisis. As for politicians well they are elected by us and ultimately answer to us, and head politician doesn't seem to be doing to well out of this at the moment.

Trident, the reason people are staying at home is because they are being told to do so. They do not understand the pandemic they just believe what they are being told. They were told it is to flatten the curve so the NHS could cope. Well its coping very very well and nobody that needs to get hospital treatment isn't getting it. But it is continuing into the future.

To say it would've been worse without lockdown is purely guesswork. To say a professor as qualified as Knut or anyone who believes herd immunity is the answer is 'cavalier' is nonsense. Unless you can prove it that's a strong statement from an unqualified person, imo. Many people thought it a ludicrous idea that Edward Jenner injecting smallpox sufferers with cowpox. How many lives did he save? |

Well at the peak of a flu epidemic there are 1500+ deaths a day. Shall we call off all sporting events from November to December? Because if we did we could reduce that number. As far as herd immunity is concerned, we should be ensuring that the vulnerable and old stay isolated while we get it so its not relevant about the numbers.

we havnt yet seen the effect of lockdown tbh , theres a lag of a couple weeks or so when many picked it and passed on around time lockdown started so todays deaths are not relevant to lockdown i doubt tho not an expert , we are being told it will be a couple weeks yet before impact of lockdown is seen tho
it looks like theres 2 camps tbh , save lives and risk lives and im not sure i can trust the risk life camp tbh but that's just me |

1) The deaths have escalated since we've had a "lockdown". I think the "lockdown" cannot be blamed - just the course/nature of the
virus hitting their most potent probably. 2) Purely guesswork to say it would have been worse without a "lockdown". Ask the public - not just in the UK - but all over the world where they've been, doing or intact with eg bus drivers (daily people to people). 3) Calling a "learned" Professor a nutcase. This is wrong and disrespectful. But, with little knowledge of the virus and sufferers growing in number and dying therie is no viable alternative. 4) It was a discovery ie a possible antidote no doubt tried on an animal prior, and cannot be used to tackle Covid-19. Then was desperate time. A similar (possible) antidote available? Nope, otherwise it would have been experimented or even used on dying sufferers, I can assure you eg on the last chance saloon Covid-19 sufferers. It's easy on the forum but as a group of elected politicians and/or team of medical experts with lives of the public at stake prudence should always be the route forward. Minimising (known) risks should always be the number 1 priority. |

Hello, the lock down saves lives by getting people to hospital and on ventilators by ensuring capacity. Once we have achieved that there is no more to be gained from it. There is no vaccine so the only way to not get the virus is to not be in contact with anyone with the virus. In order to do that you will need to self isolate until a vaccine is available or take a risk. The quicker everyone else gets some immunity the better chance that vulnerable people won't catch it. Lock down was ONLY to provide NHS capacity and nothing else. Now if we come out of lock down and capacity is at risk again then we may need more lockdown but at this moment in time there are no capacity issues in the NHS.
