They always said the likely peak would occur sometime after the initial restriction period of 3 weeks so anyone with any brain knew it would be extended at least once but people will gradually rebel if it went later into the summer..say past mid June. Meeting friends and family will become commonplace after that with large groups everywhere.
We have become a different generation to the one that was sent off to the trenches as cannon fodder and didnt say boo

The margins for the organisation’s predictions of daily deaths in the UK are big – a tenfold variation from 800 to 8,000 near the peak which, it predicts, will happen around 17 April.

Expect a proper lockdown like France and Spain for a least 6 weeks more.

The Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation in Seattle, based at the University of Washington, is the best organisation in the world at collecting data on diseases and mapping out why we fall ill.

My question is: Why were the UK govenment so slow in implementing lockdown, Like France, Spain and Germany?
By:

Because they were striving for herd immunity because lockdowns ultimately fail.

so,if no lockdown was implemented, what iyo would the death/infection rate be to date?

Extremely high.  As I keep saying, this isn't about stopping everyone from getting it, it is about keeping the demand for NHS ICU beds within capacity so that as many of those who need extra levels of help to pull through can get it.

I know this is a racing forum but something ive been thinking about.. Hypothetically speaking if we had a 6 week lockdown with enough food and water for everyone in a home would this help with this virus in the long run?
By:
Willie Shafter.
When: 08 Apr 20 08:57
how would it then spread? as oposed to never have been a lockdown and everyone mingles?
By:

Clearly we don't have a full-on lockdown.  Some people are still (quite legitimately) allowed to go to work, people can exercise, people can shop.  There are also, clearly, people who are ignoring the social distancing advice.  It will still spread, just not on the same scale because we have reduced our numbers of social contacts.

Willie the lockdown has had zero effect on the current number of deaths in the UK, that will not kick in for a week or so, it could be having an effect on the number of infections.

uquine, the incubation period has shown to be anything from 1-14 days..

'it could be having an effect on the number of infections'

without this lockdown i dont think theres any doubt the death rate/infection rate would be 10x what it is now..if not more.

Thought you said it wasn't worth you betting at 1.2 when i asked as you'd end up with a 1.08 chance after PC, when did you decide it was worth it?

Well i always thought that even if you would only get 1.08 after PC, it's far better than any interest you'd get in any bank account over 5 weeks. Better just hope the BHA don't try one behind closed doors now!
