Lay Post

My primary selection Contrive (6.45 Wolverhampton) has drifted beyond the 5/2 thread limit (was 3.40 when i looked before going to work) so i can't use it.

A short reasoning as i'm pushed for time on a reduced lunch-break.

Musselburgh 1.15 - Simone

A 6 year old Presenting gelding (half brother to Simonsig) trained by Lucinda Russell.

Winner of an Irish P2P over 16.5f from 12 races.

Didn't jump well on chase debut LTO when he was 4th of 7 (beaten 12L) over 21.5f at Kelso and weakened from 2 fences out.

Prior to that didn't appear to stay 24f well when 3rd of 10 at Perth.

Finished 2nd of 7 (beaten 0.5L) over 15.5f on this course (hurdles) last year but the race really only concerned 3 runners, the others being high odds outsiders. Was 5/4f on the strength of this run next time out (same track) but ran poorly and PU.

Might be better over a galloping track.

Top rated at 102 and is giving a lot of weight away.

Good luck.

Going  well until the closing stages then he just downed tools like he did in his previous race.

Any chance of another 4 like that with Christmas round the corner ? Grin

Many thanks for the comments Guys, much appreciated.

Another race where he didn't appear to stay 24f (even Thommo said he had ran out of petrol). The mistake 4 out obviously didn't help but it wouldn't have made any difference. I would be surprised if he runs over the trip next time out but he's not that good anyway.

I wasn't overly shocked at the drift from 2/1 but i was at the 6/4 this morning before i went to work.

deadbrain,

As much as i love Sweden i'm not remotely interested in local politics, i may not be here forever anyway unless i take Svenska nationality and that's not going to happen.

Happysandwich,

I'll certainly do my best although my form has been patchy of late.

Flashbookie,

Hi Ed, good to hear from you, i didn't know you stood at Sandown as well as Newmarket.

If i do go to Sandown on Saturday, i'll definitely pop over and say hello to you and the crew. I was thankful for the 'price' you gave me on Ten Sovereigns, a nice gesture and i'll be happy for you to take my bet on Altior.

I can probably delay meeting up my brother for a day or so, but i'm staying at one of the airport hotels, the negative being public transport from there to Sandown (forget it). I could take a rental car and not drink though. I'll let you know my plans later in the week. Cheers.

Laurie,

Ref your post at 07.58 (I had left for Saab by then and can't access BF there) your son and his wife certainly had a bad experience. Mine was fine, i liked Antigua as a resort although i didn't go into any casinos, was it in St Johns ?

We were married on the beach/gardens of the Hawksbill Hotel in 1991 (not that far from St Johns) but the area was hit by a hurricane in later years and the hotel was rebuilt/furbished. It must have been an omen because she's not my wife any longer, but she gave me a wonderful daughter and we remain friends.

We arranged everything ourselves, no family members and a couple who shared a taxi from the airport to the hotel on arrival became the witnesses. There was a village full of locals and hotel guests watching though, we felt like Hollywood stars.

"You'll be able to watch Kempton on TV before you go, have you checked if Betfair is accessible over there ? "

I think I might be pushing it a bit with my wife and daughter if I'm watching Kempton Park before taking them racing, but will try of courseLaugh
Will have to enquire about Betfair as I didn't think about that

Good morning Lampus and all,

3 meetings today but hardly enthralling. I wouldn't want to be relying on backing a winner, even at short odds although tomorrow looks better.

No lay in mind at the moment but i will try to post one at lunchtime, i still have 7 days for 4 selections. As i can't beat my previous thread record (not even close) i may just continue through to Monday anyway.

I guess i could always fall back on the 13.49 at Crayford for a lay selection. Laugh

Burkey,

If you mean the one with 2 teenage children, she's a close friend (and an ex-boss) no more.

Andrew,

Sandown by public transport can be done - I used to live in Hatton Cross in the 70's, on the south side of the airport. You can get a train from Feltham, Ashford or Staines to Weybridge, then it's three stops back towards London to get to Esher. Takes about 50 minutes. I guess though your hotel will be on the wrong side of Heathrow for that to work!

Good afternoon Guys,

I've decided to call a void day, quite a few of the races are not applicable due to the 5/2 odds limit and from those that remained i didn't see anything that really stood out.

There is a couple i think could be possibles, one of which is Show's Over (2.45 Fakenham). Has won 3/18 chases (0/10 hurdles) including LTO but it was more a case of the 2nd downing tools on the run-in. There were 7 runners, but one PU, one fell, the 5th was 100/1 and the finish only concerned 3. Won off marks of 77 and 83 (albeit both over 2 years ago) and 80 LTO. Runs off 89 today (7lb penalty). Very patchy form with Tim Vaughan before moving to Fergal O'brien and it's the latter i thought was a risk in that he's improved in 4 runs for him. Additionally the field is not that strong. I still think it's a lay at the 3.35 but decided to swerve it for this thread.

I'm surprised that Weloof is being backed in the opener (this was not the other choice) but looking at the trainer and heavy backing, could you lay it.

Good luck this afternoon.

TheAnorak,

Many thanks for the information, much appreciated. I was thinking i had to go into London and out again but i can review it again this evening. I will be in the Hotel Moxy-Heathrow, it's on the Bath Road, a couple of miles from Hounslow West.

TA,

You mentioned Hatton Cross, i used to work there (way back in time) before terminal 4 was built and watched Concorde take off daily. Walked down the perimeter road from the tube station to the company and also saw aircraft on final approach.

I shared a first floor flat in a cul-de-sac next to the Duke Of Wellington pub in Hatton Road. Aircraft landing on the south runway would fly past our kitchen window, close enough to wave to the pilots. Thank the lord for triple glazing. That was in 1976-78, and I was working in the British Airways computer centre a few hundred yards from the tube station.

May be a good idea to get in touch with your hotel and let them know you plan to visit Ascot Racecourse Saturday.

They will certainly know the best way of getting there and may also know of other guests in the same boat as you.

Heard Flash Bookie (Ed Thompson) has got wind of your plans and is betting without the Favourite in the Tingle Creek as a precaution. Laugh

Good evening Guys,

I should have stayed with the proposed lay (Shows Over) and if my recent form was better i would have taken the chance that FO couldn't improve it to win off a much higher mark.

Never mind, no loss, and it wasn't exactly an easy day for layers under 5/2 so it could have been a lot worse.

TheAnorak,

I was working for a company called Fliteform in those days. I still go back to Hatton Cross sometimes, there's a Hilton Garden Inn Hotel not too far from the tube and it's convenient when i arrive at Heathrow.

Happysandwich,

May be a good idea to get in touch with your hotel and let them know you plan to visit Ascot Racecourse Saturday.

I would prefer to watch Altior at Sandown as there's more chance of seeing him Wink

Heard Flash Bookie (Ed Thompson) has got wind of your plans and is betting without the Favourite in the Tingle Creek as a precaution

Laugh Ed is not that gullible, Altoir is an odds on chance to win but isn't a gimme by any means. NH normally has them fit enough although the horse does hit a flat spot on occasion but if he's in contention at the last he will win, he's so strong on the run-in.

Striding,

Correct on both your posts.

Lucky,

WD, more funds for your vacation.

Free tickets for ASCOT Friday 21st December, you need to log into an account and type in RUKWINTER18 there is only one ticket per application.

Hence the racecourse confusion Andrew.

Altior at 8/11 looks like a Christmas present to me. Grin
