Well done again Andrew.
Trusty's post and I think you also said Hertfordshire Andrew (Quite honestly you can say whatever you like when the lay comes in, as it often does!) Hertfordshire to Ayr is a long way to give a horse a run (800 mile round trip) and trainer won the race last year with a seasonal debutant. I won't be backing or laying anything in the race. Only 4 others running for me is not enough imvho. Actually Herefordshire to Ayr - but about the same distance ![]() Keep up the good work and don't listen to the idiots AIS! ![]() ![]() |

Evening All
Firstly, well done on your lay today Andrew, hopefully getting some of the old magic back after a torrid few weeks previously. (Hells Kitchen apart I watched the race at work and was a sickener ) one of them days !!I didnt lay Polydora but instead backed Bafana Blue in a match bet with it giving up 3/4 lengh on the spreads so cheers for that. Did lay The Wolf and backed Chti Balko but only for small stakes (had a torrid time last couple months) which is for me is how fixed odds betting goes the bigger the bet the more likely it gets beat. Thanks Glasgow and Happy for comments Happy If you have had one bet since August that is some will power, especially being retired. I have the distraction of work to occupy me although I do wish I had more time to devote to research and watching the racing during the week Hey ho |

Good evening Guys and Girls,
Many thanks for the post race comments, much appreciated. Once again a last fence faller adds debate to the race, although thankfully it didn't benefit the lay selection Polydora this time. He led from the start and although jumping well in the main, did reach for a couple and made a blunder before a bad mistake at the 3rd last cost him any resemblance of a winning chance. He was being hard ridden before this point (winning jockey actually looking around) and in my opinion would not have won even without the mistake. I did mention in the reasoning he had jumped well in some of his races, but in others made several mistakes, today was such an occasion. Leading all the way over 24f carrying 11.12 lb on heavy going at Ayr takes some doing, added to that he was giving 11 lb to the winner (who had won his last two) and 21 lb to the faller. To give an idea of how heavy it was, the winning time was almost 1 minute 2 seconds slower than standard. In my opinion the faller Sophie Olivia wouldn't have gone past the winner (who was a length up at the time) but i probably would say that as it was my nap in the daily competition. ![]() Lucky, Well done with your lay and backs, hope you made a good few bob. Hopefully your poor spell (that we all experience at times) is over. I concur with your comments with respect to Happysandwich and discipline, i actually praised him for it in an email to him earlier. Fronter, Can i claim a typing error, Hertfordshire vs Herefordshire. ? ![]() To be honest, i can't even remember what i was thinking, i often have to look at the RP for stable locations anyway. Big Aitch, Andrew, please never say "Take nothing away from the winner" again, it is the phrase Fitzy has crucified over the years he has been on the Gravytrain when he can't think of anything else to say. I'll try not to in future. ![]() Flash bookie, Hi Ed, hope life is treating you well and punters are not taking too much from your childrens inheritence, but bear in mind we all have to eat. ![]() The last time we met was actually at the Tingle Creek last year as you may remember. I would love to come over, even though the latter will not be running, but my daughter arrives here the day before, and of course she takes precedence over racing. Asking her if she fancies flying to Sandown the next day, 24 hours after travelling from Australia/Indonesia may not go down too well. I'm hoping to be over for the Christy 1965 Chase at Ascot on November 23rd where Altior will almost certainly be running, weather permitting. I don't think you stand at Ascot ? I will certainly let you know whenever i'm over next. Best wishes to you and Brian. Good luck and have a nice evening all. |

Lay Post
Plumpton 3.00 - Big Meadow A 8 year old Marienbard gelding trained by Neil King at Wroughton, Wiltshire. Dam was unraced. 4 offspring, but from the other 3, no winners in 27 races. Winner of a P2P, a hurdle and 2 chases from 23. Concentrating on his 2018/2019 season, a single win in 9 races, with average to poor form figures of 3-UR-5-PU-4-4-4-1-4. Had been coming down in the ratings from 123 in early 2018 to a mark of 99 when he won over 23.5f at Chepstow (class 4) on soft going 12 days ago. There were 10 runners although only 6 completed the course. His run LTO (1 week later, and only 5 days ago) resulted in a 4th of 13 (beaten 19L) over 24f at Exeter (class 4). Never run over 28.5f (will stay) and as he likes to front run will do well in the envisaged soft/heavy going off 11.12 lb. Up 6 lbs from his last two runs. His record at Plumpton doesn’t make such good reading 8-5-4-4, even more so when you consider in his last couple of runs only 4 and 5 finished respectively. Jockey current form is a negative. A small field of 7 runners although the outsider could easily be dismissed, leaving 5 others running for layers, any of whom could win including winner of the race last year. Lay @ 3.50 (ref my post of 13.11, although much lower odds now). Good luck all. |

Good morning Guys and Girls from an almost sunny München.
Many thanks for the comments, much appreciated as always. ![]() The lay Big Meadow was well backed from 9/4 down to 13/8 surprisingly enough, although easy to say after the event. Not much to describe about the race per se, settled in mid-field contrary to as expected (likes to lead or at least be up with the pace) and more or less stayed there throughout with exception of a short spell when he moved up to 3rd. Didn’t looked to be travelling well when he made a mistake at the 11th and layers were probably rubbing their hands even at this early stage. At the next, he made a complete hash of it and to her credit the jockey did well to stay on, but thereafter it was clear to see any chance of him winning was evaporating with every stride. After several reminders Bryony sensibly decided to call it a day and she pulled him up. He's never run that well at Plumpton and would maybe do better on a galloping track aka Chepstow and Uttoxeter where he has won, additionally has only been placed once over staying distances of 24f+ either. I will update the status table later. I took a quick look at the cards last night and although there wasn’t anything that really stood out there were a couple of possible selections so I may be contacting the tic tac guys later. I’m still pondering over whether to come over for the Altior/Cyrname clash at Ascot at the weekend, at the moment it’s 60/40 in favour and only the thought of very soft ground preventing me from booking a flight already. The forecast isn’t so bad, but rain is expected from Thursday, but i will probably decide today whilst flight tickets are still manageable. I’m surprised they are so close in the betting, even allowing for the hype and the ratings. It’s almost beneficial to lay one or the other (as opposed to backing) so you have the field on your side even though they are unlikely to have a hand in the finish, but it is racing. I would be very surprised if Nicky sends him to Haydock on Saturday if the going at Ascot is considered too soft. Another apparent duel there with Bristol De Mai and Lostintranslation, but again, i’m surprised these two are so close in the betting. Good luck and have a nice Tuesday all. |

PHS and myself can confirm that Saint De Reve was the first of 2 Lays that Andrew requested the odds for (it was 2.98 when I replied to him at 12.03pm)
Wincanton 2.50 Saint De Reve 1st 5/4 We will not reveal the other and neither will be official Lay bets. Just be grateful we didn’t allow you to do your pennies on the first one. ![]() |

Talk about dodging bullets.
Market Rasen 3.10 Head Lad was the other requested Lay and that’s just gone in at 11/8 by a short head. PHS Do we look after Andrews followers or not? ![]() ![]() |

Good evening Guys and Girls,
Dodging Bullets was a useful chaser, even beating Sprinter Sacre, not once, but twice. Happysandwich and PHS are correct, an impromptu meeting saved the Bacon, Head Lad was the more likely choice, but i didn't get chance to type a reasoning so in the end it didn't matter anyway. A poor choice, albeit both short odds. There is a God. ![]() A relatively easy day tomorrow, so more chance of a lay post, hopefully with a positive result. Yours truly has an early Saturday morning BA flight to London City airport booked and i will be at Ascot for the so called 'duel' between the top two rated chasers. A small field of 4 (Top Notch will not run) but only 2 will count and if everything goes to plan i hope to be cheering Altior to yet another win. Good luck and have a nice evening all. ![]() |
