That's right sparrow, I do when I see the NHS falling apart, schools over overcrowded and not enough houses for people due to a reckless, unchecked mass immigration policy to one's country and with not enough infrastructure in place for the levels of immigration thus having a negative impact on natives of that country.

I don't like to get political on racing forum but this from the liberals favourite paper, The Guardian.
The UK population is growing unusually fast, too. At the present rate of progress, the Office for National Statistics expects it to swell by 4.6 million during the 2010s – “the biggest growth in the last 50 years”. In 2014, the latest year for which figures are available, the UK had almost 65 million inhabitants, its greatest ever total. It is predicted to be home to more people than France by 2030 and more people than Germany by 2047, which would make this much smaller land mass the most populous country in Europe. Kempton won't be the last racecourse sold off to make way for housing, that's for sure! |

Nobody is diputing that the population is going up quite quickly but your quote itself suggests the population was going up faster 50 years ago. In fact in percentage terms it was in the 19th century the population exploded.I doubt whether the whole of the UK would be more densely popuated than the Low Countries btw.

I grew up within spitting distance of Kempton and Sandown and even as a kid Kempton seemed out of place to me. Perfect spot for housing.

At the moment the density of population in the Netherlands is over 50% higher that of the UK. Can't see that ddisappearing by 2047 as they have lots of immigrants too. The poulations of France and Germany have been much lower than the UK relative to area since at least the Industrial Revolution.

Kempton sold, new all weather track at Newmarket, no TV pics for some selected Arena tracks, it appears Kempton only the start of the closures, the plot thickens, and it becomes obvious that non-racing people are in charge of the game, who are they these individuals?, I expect their pension plans have been given rather large boost? the second biggest race of the jumps season to find a new home, who needs an enemy with patriots like these in charge of racing?

There seems to be a misconception that Kempton is in the leafy suburbs. The nearest attraction is Feltham Young Offenders Institute and windows rattle with planes constantly taking off and landing at nearby Heathrow. This is not a glamorous part of town but it's a good location for social housing.

My final point on this is when all the brownfield sites have been used up for housing, racecourses will surely be seen as fair game. Can a Government force someone (Racecourse owners) to sell their land for such a purpose? I noticed that the Government are planning to build 14 Garden villages/towns but this will be a drop in the ocean with regards to UK housing needs. I really can't believe there are people in the UK who don't see a problem with the current immigration levels. Bizarre!

Southwell, and Wolverhampton at least will struggle to survive, Wolves for some time as been rumoured for housing(the only track in the Birmingham central region.

The thought of Christmas without Kempton is just sad. The Jockey Club’s Simon Bazalbgette says : We are about maintaining racing heritage and making sure that it is in the most healthy position it can be for the future. |
