Hole in saddle must rank up there as one of the 5hittiest reasons for a disqualification, don't know if it's unlucky, part of your job is making sure your tools are in good order.

Hushwing, you've assume it fell out at the start of the race. We don't know when it fell out. Also quite possible the original winner was idling and would have pulled out more as well so may have had more than 2lb in hand. Not as simple as you suggest.
