Linford Christie took umbrage about references to his 'lunchbox' 25 years ago and the world has moved on since then.
So did Alan Wells. |

ReaseHeath - they will charge him under that rule - conduct prejudicial to the reputation and good conduct of racing. You know, the one they got Best on. Perhaps they'll get that same bloke to preside over the enquiry.

Come on guys were better than this. Benny Hill died in 1992 FFS ... time to grow up!

An example of these c*nts who think they can dictate what people can or can't laugh at. If you don't mind, I'll laugh at what I choose, so f*ck off. |

I was watching an interview from the 1980s with Hal Roach (who was ? 90 at the time) and he was asked who he thought was the funniest of the current day comedians. I was expecting him to name an American, but no, he named Benny Hill, albeit he acknowledged Benny was a bit on the 'dirty' side!
|
|
By:
George - You are entirely free to laugh or not at what you want, and I sympathise with your wish.
This is not about that though, it is about what you can say, in public, on line, in correspondence etc. Here of course you can still choose, but there are rules, many enshrined in law. Just a question of where you choose to draw your line. |

Have you seen the viewing figures for Benny Hill clips on Youtube - literally millions, his theme tune alone has around 20m.
Here's one of his clips, with 'just' the 6 million... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJC4HvpWewM People still want to watch and laugh at Benny Hill, regardless what of lordnoise and his PC pals think! |

By:
I was watching a documentary about French pop / music the other night on BBC4 and I was surprised Claude Francois didn't get more of a mention. A bit like Benny, he liked nothing more than to surround himself on stage with scantily-clad women. Apparently he was a big star in France in his day!

People in authority telling us what we can and can't say, and in turn telling us what we're meant to be offended by.
This is exactly how Nazi Germany started... A statement so wrong on every level that even if it's fishing (which it surely must be) should be explained georgey boy! |
|
By:
Sorry if went over your head, spyker, it was meant Basil Fawlty style, the famous quote about people sticking their noses in, poking around for things to complain about, this is exactly...
|
|
By:
Mind you, daren't even quote Fawlty Towers nowadays, they've even chopped that scene with the Major!

The country has gone mad, who the feck was actually offended by his comment?
The BHA should get its' own house in order before going after a trainer and having an investigation into this pathetic episode. |
|
By:
Can Mr Ward say the next time he has a winner..
'He's got a tongue like chavmans hampton wick' for balance please ?.... Presuming, of course that chavman is ''chalky!!!!!'' |

By:
The trainer has apologised on his website to anyone who was offended, stating that his comments were in no way meant to be racist.

It's very simple really - it doesn't matter that it is a racing channel. Daytime tv is available to be watched by people of all ages and therefore everything on it has to be acceptable to everyone and not likely to offend - irrespective of colour etc. It is different for subbed channels i think. Look at all the warnings/reaction they give on those tosh morning shows when they discuss anything like this.
If you are happy for people to talk about men's knackers in relation to horses anatomy in front of your 3yo grandchild (and introduce a race element into it for good measure) then fair do's. I suggest you do it loudly in a room full of children and see the reaction on their and their parent's faces. Good luck with that. |
|
By:
Surely it's just a phallusy anyway
|
|
By:
He used the words "private parts", personally I would be shocked if your 3YO grandchild understood what he meant by that. I dread to think what you've been teaching your grandchildren, spyker.
Perhaps the solution is not to have 'live' interviews and only show pre-recorded ones that won't offend! The man has apologised, I suggest we all (including the BHA) move on. |
|
By:
Not enough use of the term 'Lady Garden' either, in my opinion.
But maybe this is a new trend in racing, hot on the heels of the Aussie jock last week who said he had a raging horn in a post-race interview. |

Surely it's a compliment - a long thick tongue or am I missing something. It might be offensive but not racially offensive. God I hate this world these days. Everybody gets 'offended' by everything.
|
|
By:
I agree with you all in that the world has gone mad but I will counter it by saying if you look at the definition of racism it says that as soon as you suggest a member of another race has something different about them then that is deemed as racism. For me I always thought that racism had to be derogatory but it seems that by insinuating a different race has a characteristic exclusive to that race then that is enough.
Again though BHA picks on the little guy ![]() |

Ward made a stupid comment. He is entitled to make an ass of hinmself, just as a woman would if saying all men are rapists. Stereotyping is never justified.
|
|
By:
If certain people were insulted, then surely it's up to them to complain. What I dislike is when people take offence
on behalf of someone else . |
|
By:
I take offence at that kind of logic on here
(on behalf of those that are offended, once I've stated that I find it offensive, on their behalf obviously) |
|
By:
Does that mean I have to be offended now, or can I just pretend to be like all the hand wringers?
|
|
By:
Be offended saddo ffs ya ****
|
|
By:
I do think his comments were ignorant but I don't believe there was any malice in them. It doesn't make it right but the BHA needs to be consistent. I recall a trainer using a worse racist phrase (in my opinion) on television and I don't recall any action being taken against him at the time.
