Well deserved

I agree with dobmeister1.
Riding or training racehorses are both shady professions. You won't get far in either without breaking the rules regarding non triers. Yet they're honouring these kinds of people, which devalues the whole system of handing out honours. They don't seem to put much thought into these things do they? |
By:
The honours system is hardly something I'd want to be a part of, After all Jimmy Savile was a Sir.
By:
AP deserves it and the timing is right now that he has retired. Wiggins and Hoy got theirs too soon, just everyone getting giddy at the time rather than a well thought-out award
By:
perhaps they should honour his wife.
By:
If you think it's okay to honour someone who has simply made a lot of money from a luxury pastime industry then go ahead.
Honouring people like that, certainly devalues the contributions that have been made by people who do real good in this world. |
By:
Sir Tony McCoy would be the first to admit it
By:
Honoured for whipping horses.
By:
Why are you on this forum? A very narrow minded view and hypocritical!
By:
Where is there any hypocrisy in anything I've written here?
By:
luxury pastime? its a tough job, getting your teeth smashed out then going back out to ride in the next race, breaking bones, getting kicked, what he's achieved it something nobody ever thought could happen and he deserves all the praise he gets for it

A Knight should be above reproach
How many fiddles did he get into with Jonjo |

All countries have a bit of 'look at us, aren't we wonderful?' about them. With the Brits, it's still being a member of the United Nations Security Council, having to act the big boys bombing Syria, and an honours system that has it's origins in the feudal system and it's own imperial history.
It would be more valued now if it only honoured those who did sterling work in their local communities, but the media would alas lose interest fairly quickly. Certainly looking as if it is past its sell by date though. |
By:
When you think of people like Sir Jimmy Saville and Lord Archer, it's hardly an exclusive, or indeed honourable, club.
By:
A fully deserved Knighthood imo.
By:
^^^^Although he doesn't give any reasons why he thinks the honour is fully deserved.
Or presents any argument to the people who have spelled out their opposing views. |
By:
Ridiculous to knight somebody for doing a job they love and being paid a fortune. Coincidentally, I met a nurse today aged 61, who was an absolute angel but will never get any public recognition for a long career doing a very worthwhile job.
NB AP seems a very nice guy and I have no issue with him personally. |
By:
Nothing wrong with making elite sporting icons Sirs, plus we wont ever have that many to make us worry about it.
By:
If you have to have these type of awards then AP is one of the most deserving cases.
A absolute champion who's courage and skill have lit up a sport that only the very brave participate in. At the the other end of the spectrum you have Ronnie O'Sullivan who will suit himself at every turn and even insult snookers greatest champion and player Stephen Hendry by walking out mid-match just because he was losing in one of snookers blue ribbon events. Two award winners but both a million miles apart in integrity and grit. I can only assume Ronnies parents made the committee an offer they could not refuse. Nothing strange about the english getting things so wrong but this is a very good example. AP always played the game where Ronnie so seldom does. |
By:
I don't hold with honours systems but the Knighthood for McCoy is farcical ...at the age of 40 for basically doing the same job as scores of others everyday -except for the fact he rode hundreds upon hundreds of odds-on steering jobs.
Peter Scudamore said lately at the Lesters that any amount of the winners he (PS) rode for Martin Pipe - the trainer himself would have won on. Ditto McCoy. If McCoy had to get an honour an MBE would have been more appropriate. But in any event the whole charade is a devalued joke exercise. |

Vubiant.
You could not be more wrong. |

Correct -the moral stench from the whole Savile affair still lingers.

"great jockey. However he does not warrant a knighthood." I understand where you are coming from. You were obviously hoping to see Sir Derek Thompson ! |
By:
seems a decent chap.........good luck to him
By:
waste of time who in their right mind would address ap as sir, just like all them journo,s calling fergie sir and them contestants calling sugar lord sugar
By:

Yet which one regularly schooled horses in public and rode non triers. Or rode horses sent specifically to collect place prize money instead of going all out for the win. Don't tell me that didn't apply to him as much as any other jockey. |
By:
Has anyone who feeds the homeless nightly on the streets ever been given one of these awards?
By:
MJK,
Yes many have but understand your point. Dr Crippen, There are many cheats in racing but Mister McCoy is the last one you would ring for a loser, its not all Dick Francis rubbish, just many poor losers who just don't understand the game. |
By:
glad you cleared that up

Bread, bet there is not much on your table.

Have I read your post correctly, Moondan?
It appears that you're saying AP would never pull a horse? I'd love to get him hooked up to a lie detector and ask him how many times he has pulled one (especially JP's). |
By:
Yes you have read it correctly, its my opinion that AP has never purposly pulled a horse its not in his makeup and that is fact.
Believe it or not. Been around the game for over 54 years never heard a sniff against him, if you want a horse pulled then he is not your man. |
By:
just many poor losers who just don't understand the game.
What a cheap shot. And preceded by one of the most naïve comments I've ever seen on here. ''but Mister McCoy is the last one you would ring for a loser'' Haven't you ever heard of preparing a horse for a race? Giving it an easy run before for the big day? What did his stable simply keep him sitting at home waiting until they had one ready for him because he'd only ride triers? Didn't he give novices educational rides either? |
By:
I'm not denying that he's an out an out winner but I believe he's been told many of times not to win today.

Disgusting individual that promotes an alleged betting firm that bans winners and pays no levy..
He should be deported.. |
By:
"If you want a horse pulled then he is not your man". I've spent far too long reading this thread, get me out of here..

By:
Crippen,
Most of the cheap shots are yours and as much off target as the others who would see a red under every bed in the 50s. Grow up you clueless toxxers. |

Jimmy Saville and Barbara Windsor - what are the New Years honours in the UK? Also rans?
