I don't remember that as I was a complete novice,

Remember the 1987 Flat Jockeys race between Pat & Steve Cauthen, went right to the wire with both riding at Hamilton & Edinburgh and places like that in the last week. Pat lost out but that period was a Golden Era for the sport. Great Memories RIP Pat.

I seem to remember him being interviewed at Epsom after his first winner (Alvaro). The mind may be playing tricks but I seem to remember Desmond Carrington being the front man on that day when the racing was on with the title of 'Spring Out'.

Very, very sad news. Pat's ride on Dancing Brave in the Arc one of the great moments in Flat racing history. Never forget the year of his head-to-head for the jockey's title with Steve Cauthen. An epic that went down to the last day at Donny. Moon Madness another great memory - through the handicap ranks to winning the Leger. And Pat's ride on Silver Patriarch in the Derby when he was short-headed by Benny The Dip. Zafonic in the 2,000 Guineas…

Very sad news indeed. Got his autograph a few times as a kid just for the buzz of ' Wow I'm talking with Pat Eddery'. The Peter Walwyn yard was the first I'd look at in each years Horses In Training. ' Pat on The Back' (1975) was the first racing book I read, and Grundy with Eddery aboard inside Seven Barrows was the first horse pic on my bedroom wall.

Dancing Brave , Silver Patriarch ,Grundy , El Gran Senor..... When I grew up in the 70's , I always thought Piggott , Eddery & Carson were the elite of their sport. RIP |

Very sad news. My favourite memory is a race I didn't even see. Friday of Royal Ascot 1985, I am 17 and learning the ropes as a punter. Decide to round off a good week by putting the lot on Valuable Witness, at a shade of odds on. Standing in the bookies heart pounding, Pat brings him home, it's a feeling I will never forget. Also remember Pat and Steve Cauthen, bringing their battle for the 1987 Championship to Hamilton on a wet November Thursday. Fantastic days, for which I am grateful many years on. RIP Pat.

It just goes to show when you time is up... he was fit as a flea without an ounce of fat and shocking to die so young at 63.
He was a great jockey in a golden era I remember those titanic battles with Steve Cauthen from the late 80's and some great wins on Sharpo. My favourite ride on Batshoof when it won at Sandown, I swear he had his feet up reading a paper he was that cool. By best wishes go out to his family. |

Loved him on Rainbow Quest - the only jockey ever to win on him, I think - and, of course, Dancing Brave's Arc was a masterclass. Many other great memories, including Posse in a canter in the SJP at Royal Ascot. He had nerves of steel and stood out in a great era for jocks.

very sad news, was an excellent jockey more so for win purposes than each way I got into horse racing with the like's of Pat Eddery, Lester Piggot, Willie Carson, Steve Cauthen etc. A real golden age for jockeys. |

Pat Eddery and El Gran Senor. He drove that horse like a Mini Cooper.
That was the golden age of flat racing. Carson, Eddery, Cauthen, Starkey, Swinburn and Piggott; and the second rank were mustard too. |

really shocked and gutted by this news when i found out at lunch time
...just been through all his major wins on wiki (and there are a hell of a lot) and i can honestly say i don't remember backing any of them! just always known him to be one of the greatest jockeys of all time...rip legend. |

Must say i was shocked when i heard this on the radio this morning, had no idea he was very ill. As a youngster getting into racing he was my early favourite jockey remember i backed him on if i'm correct his 1st derby ride, Freefoot in the 73 race won by Morston, came 3rd i think. Always in trouble with the stewards for his cavalier riding but what a great jockey he became, god bless Pat and thanks for all those wonderful memories! RIP.

Just arrived home and logged on . Cannot believe this news. Absolutely awful. A great great jockey. In my top three of all time. I remember having a weeks wages on one of his mounts when a weeks wage was about £30. Nordic Salute. Romped home, 4/1. Thought I was a rich man. RIP Postman.
