Looked to be a big crowd in middle of course on saturday.
Does anyone know how many bookmakers were there and what business was like?

Huge crowd, very busy and full line of books (some from out of the numbers couldn't get on).

Any bookmaker who hasn't got a Chester course pitch should get one although I doubt if any are available.

Thanks for reply TAD.
I thought all the pitches would be taken and you are right, it does seem to be one of the best rings around at the moment.

Not a patch on what it was
I think five got turned away of which I think we're
Just out of the number

It used to be IMO tatts bets at silver ring expenses
Very very rare three figure bets

However still a great atmosphere and exciting racing

VERY POOR BUSINESS IN TATTS YESTERDAY.....£32 ENTRY TOO MUCH FOR PUNTERS AND SUBSEQUENT BADGE FEE LEAVES ALL BUT THE PRIME PITCHES UNWORKABLE.

I would have thought some of the old tote money would be helping. Chesterbet cant have retained 100% surely?

£32 in chester tatts who on earth do they think they are at that place,i cant think of any tatts ring in the country with worse facilities ,no a single seat to be found with the exception of those in the toilets.

They have squeezed in a few  bookies by the parade ring and champagne bar so no need to go back to tatts to put a bet on. A lot stay there for the whole meeting no wonder business was poor in tatts. They would sell the horse sh*t if they thought they could make more money out of punters.

WONDERS - TATTS/MEMBERS BEST PLACE FOR FACILIITIES BUT IS NOT CHEAP...THREE OTHER OPTIONS DEE/COURSE/GOAT WALK....MUCH DEPENDS ON YOUR BUDGET.

really mugbookie theres nothing to keep them in tatts at all, only the fact they get to see the race live, which as I am sure you know not many of them are to bothered about that.

JIMNAST - AGREED,THERE IS VERY LITTLE TO KEEP PUNTERS IN TATTS, BUT IF YOUR GOING SIMPLY FOR A DAY OUT AS WONDERS IS, THE FACILIITIES AROUND THE PARADE RING...OTHER THAN THE GAMBLING ...ARE VERY GOOD

it will be interesting to see how chester re invest with there profits from chesterbet ,perhaps they will open a new area and buy pick one for themselves.

jimnast -

I have been trying to phone you - but either, I have got your number wrong, or you may have changed it.
The number I have tried ends in 66 - but is, "not recognised," - as it was previously.
Maybe I have transposed it incorrectly.

If you do now have a different one - please phone me - I am still on number ending .........96.

If you have lost my number, then PM Personal Message me on here, please.

£32 for tatts is an absolute scandal, add travelling, food and drink and you are down about a ton in x's before you've had a bet.

Completely outrageous.

Agreed SB. Usually go to Chester five or six times a year. Not been once so far this year.

I was there at Chester in the middle yesterday. There was about 30 odd bookies and It was very busy....I usually go in the tatts however when its buy one get one free...I refuse to pay £32 and £4 a pint...Its a huge rip off...Also to get best odds you have to go under the racecourse every race which is a pain in the bum...The bookies near the champagne bar give awful odds..and they know it...Chester bet is a rip off as they take 6% s well....Yesterday £30 for family, take your own food and ale...happy days....mind you £4 for 5 mins on a trampoline? I think not....paid £3 each for the 2 kids to hook a duck and pick any prize....cheapest option...The racecourse has improved by tarmacking the entrance road..many times you saw cars stuck in the mud....however the cost of a seat in the white horse pub £80? what a joke! The middle is full of a load of chavs with not much room between them, but if you sit far back as we did its ok. Lots more bogs there this year..again an improvement....some dodgy birds drunk at 1pm.....If they stopped people taking their own ale it would die a death...The Sunday family fun day is just too busy..went once and it was a free for all....health and safety would have had a field day(no pun intended)

30 odd books heh ? I hope they were all playing the game re: place terms offered !!!
By:

When: 09 Jun 13 23:56
Thought there was 46 books there yesterday and can think of quite a few that would have had a field day with the place terms.
There was a bookie at Haydock Newton enclosure yesterday betting 1/5th odds when it was 120% at 1/4 odds.

What was really galling was the number of announcements over the tannoy saying 'come over to the middle of the track by the parade ring, loads of space and no queues at the bars'.  Yes, and loads of chesterbet outlets, surprise surprise Angry

wasnot chester seem to be very aggressive in the way they are promoting chesterbet.

skally there were plenty betting to proper terms in the newton stand.

Looks as if the Chester books are getting really good value for their marketing fee. I once again would like to bang the drum re: agreements/contracts being reviewed after a yearor similar to identify what is working, what is not working, what is fair and what is not fair !!!

The whole ChesterBet/marketing fee situation is a massive conflict of interest for the racecourse. Not that they care, from the sounds of it.
By:

When: 10 Jun 13 09:39
My point entirely Gonzo - if the books are getting nothing for this contrived extra payment at Chester, for example, then they should not be paying it !!!!

do royal ascot really need a marketing fee ?

What is worrying is that Ripon are now following Chester/Bangor idea as regards betting.
Let's hope others don't follow.
By:

When: 10 Jun 13 10:06
racecourse bookmakers have fallen well behind robin in the pr stakes,we should be shouting from the roof tops the poor value people get from chester/bangor and ripon bet but we don't we just moan to one another about it.
By:

When: 10 Jun 13 10:15
I do try to tell people who have a vague interest in racing but todays racegoer seem to be much like the majority at Chester.
I fear the battle may already be lost.
