I cannot believe that such a monumental error of judgement was made. It really does deserve the ultimate sanction for those who cannot fit into their hats any more and do not realise the sensitivity and deference that their role may demand in some circumstances.

Sean, nobody forces you to sit through the 'microphone sh it'. If it's of no interest to you, just turn it off after the race, or record it and watch the non-microphone bits later. I agree that they should have put up the full result (I suspect they just forgot about that). However, some people clearly want to see what the big names say - certainly at a time like today. Any sport will have a certain amount of talking to the 'personalities'. If you don't want to see that, that's your choice.

tip1uk, there are plenty of people in the racing industry with past offences, what do you suggest?

I hope Channel 4 apologise for her stupidity in timing not for the intent.

all these racing presenters wander around the paddocks, outside weighing rooms ready to "pounce" (and in many cases it is a pounce) on someone, in some cases anyone!, to grab an interview to fill in their precious time slot. They're all ignorant as fcuk imo

Cooee,
Yes, I agree that show bizz is show bizz and scandal and make believe interest and attract. EG, Corporation Street on Engish TV and the old NOTW comic. A time and place for gossip and titillation, but can any viewer honestly say that the crap via the mike on racing programmes has helped him make any wonga? I admit I don't watch much TV and am no expert. In fact, i don't even have a telly. ![]() ![]() Good luck to all who enjoy it and make it pay, but if i were ever to be confronted by anh gravy-train rider with a mike, I'd give 'em Lester or tell 'em to fk off. That's the honest racing way, imo. Articles in the paper are in a different kettle of fish. They are acceptable( whether more truthful or not, I don't know) and nobody going about their work or business is interupted or distracted by them. |

I don't think the coverage of these big race meetings is really aimed at serious punters. I sympathise with you, but I suspect 20 minutes of detailed scrutiny of the races with a view to telling people how to bet next time would be much of a crowd-puller for the typical joe who watches C4 racing.
I like the sound of that Corporation Street though! ![]() |

Good grief,Dave.
Her job is to talk about matters relevant to racing. The situation about whether or nor not some drug dealers were tortured doesn't come under this imo. |

I think many breeders will be asking themselves bigger questions about the shake.

Has anyone had their first name spelt in more different ways today than Clare Balding?

She did her job,he was not willing to speak about the subject earlier,so she put him on the spot(He thinks he's untouchable) The BHB should give him a fact finding,on behalf of most in racing.

Do you really think it is her decision which questions to ask?

Cooee
Your opinion of the potential viewers is exactly what's wrong with CH4. Who on earth do you think watches CH4 racing ? The answer is people who like and probably bet on racing. So they would rather an informative programme not some dumbed down tripe. This fallacy that that they are going to catch viewers who tune in by mistake is just ridiculous. |

i dont know why people have a pop at sheikh mohammed, the guy has given millions, maybe billions to charities and racing. for me the real slag in this is Simon Crisford. He a right ****g bounder and you can be sure that he knows more than he is letting on

It just strikes me as gullible for all these people to criticise her when she is being told what to say through an earpiece. I recall when Hazel Irvine asked Peter Ebdon about his controversial tactics after a match against O'Sullivan, and everyone launched into her as if she made that decision.

As a journalist myself and indeed a close neighbor to CB i find some posts incredible reading based on what people think on the matter in question rather than the personal thoughts towards a person.
All i will say under the circumstances which in my view not good PR for SM to walk away from the question but approach the question head on by either answering in his own words or replying in which i do not wish to discuss this matter at the moment and the interview could had digressed to an interview that worked for both. For me and not being a TV presenter i would under the circumstances put the same kind of question over giving most likely the only opportunity to do so. And just about still relevant to what many would have seen as a interesting or maybe not so interesting answer. As to the header Sack CB. Well that is just pain daft |

So presumably you think that Rishi is told to ask "How does that feel" every single frigging time do you ,Srich ?

By:
Actually thought it was a pretty decent question and timing shouldn't matter given the gravity of what took place.
He's been hiding out in Dubai the past month while all of this unfolded and then shows up today as if nothing ever happened. No matter what he's done for the sport, no matter how much money he's put in, no matter how much of fan he is...he's not immune from a simply question. You have to take the rough with the smooth. All she wanted was just a quick word about it which he could've answered in a more diplomatic way....Not even a - The BHA have dealt with it and its time to move on etc etc nope just flicks his hand in the air like a spoilt brat and storms off saying the - BHA can do what they want. Her question didn't warrant that. |
|
By:
FlyingBolt, but people who like and bet on racing will almost certainly tune in for the 2,000 Guineas no matter how it's being done. The important thing for Ch4 is to try and grab those people who wouldn't necessarily sit down and watch. Do you think 20 minutes of pace and trip analysis will pull in huge numbers of new viewers. If Ch 4 only goes after the small number of hardened race enthusiasts, its viewing figures will be very mediocre.

Westfour, are you a journalist for one of those strange publications that can't afford commas?
|

Also interesting was Silent Simon
Normally he has a lot to say for himself after a big win but was in no comment mood. Fine racing manager. Mark Johnston was disappointing with his - I'm on the board of the BHA so can't possibly comment. Jesus fkin Christ....real smooth from the guy whose slandered Australian racing. |

I am really not a fan of Claire Balding, I am not sure why I just find her condescending in general......but I do admire her for trying to ask Mo about the Godolphin situation and without reading all the inane posts on here so far, feel that in the circumstances her performance today was one of her best.
