Larrence ,my opinion of Frank is well documented and the comments from Kemo only just border on slanderous.
Had he been of the era alluded to............he would have surpassed Coco,Phil Silvers,Groucho Marx...........as the best clown/comedian that ever lived.imvho btw ![]() |

kemo, you know them all.

You seem to have taken leave of your senses. You will never be fit to polish Scudamore's boots. |

One of my fav jump jockeys was graham mccourt.
By:
the biggest comedian jock i knew was darryl holland ... my five furlong come from behind sprinter ... which had finished 5th in a 5f race ridden by r hughes on the tuesday of glorious goodwood was in the silver cup ,,, a six furlong race ....on the friday for once in its life started well it lead the race chased by the field for a total of 4f fading rapidly to last .i had driven 420miles to see this ... he jumped off in the unsaddling area and dissapeared ,,, neither me or the trainer ever got an explanation .
By:
kemo. Long journey for you as well. Strange cause dazzler is normally good from the front. What was your sprinter called ?? |
By:
mind you robert winston had a hamlet moment on him when he sat back in the stalls and he couldnt take off its blindfold hood it lost 6lenghts and finished 3rd ... only to be disqualified by the stewards ,,, it was replaced by a horse that had been punted very heavily and the jock was told in no uncertain terms he had to object ,,, and that was that

By:
Yes i know that horse, he had a useful turn of foot.
By:
yes it gave melots of fun in an unhappy time of my life ... it ran in my hockey club colours of purple with orange stars ,,, if your interested there are clips of him on you tube being retrained as an eventer at the grand age of 17 till about 22 ,,, now that you couldnt make up ... its ist lessons he couldnt even jump pole on the ground ,,, the kids who eventually had him loved him to death ,,, funny though i get very sad wen i watch it so have to ration it ,,,, on one of them it shows him winning at haydock ridden by john mcauley who i think only rode him three times and won twice..behind a wall of horses 1f out .. produced through gap in the best jamie spencer manner

Here is one for you larrence and kemo.........purely from memory.
Nottingham.......Jamie Osbourne,Graham McCourt,William Jarvis and Yarmy.............all met individually before racing. Several tracks to take,Jamies was unlucky in the first tbf,Yarmy tipped me the wink for the winner and I got 11/4 for a few grand.Williams was going in the long distance handicap and he told me to get it for as much as I could get away with..........laying btw............unplaced. Graham told me to shovel on as much as I could on his LAST runner ever.......she pis$sed up(listed I think) One meeting................who outside the circle knew? |

Btw I think Grahams filly was Dragon something.........point is that some think they are being bull**** about info.

interesting story ... but i did the whole racing thing for two years or so ... mind you this was pre betfair .that was the moment the whole game changed for better as well as for worse ...ive often wondered if the prep runs of my horses ,early season the horses while always trying their best ,,,, then no incentive not to ,,, were always in need of a run or two as one of them had a tendancy to bleed and needed gradual work to a peak and it stayed at that level .with that knowledge would i have laid them ... the sad thing is i probebly would ,,,but then it was a diff world .
By:
sounds like you had a great time. Sorry to hear about the sadness though.
gt interesting stuff. |

im sure we all have sad times .... im healthy i do a job i like ,i travel, ive no real cash ,worries ... i have a lovely long term partner whos quite well off ,,and often asks me why dont we get a race horse ,as you always speak about those times with fondness .. i say no ... its very stress full and i was lucky to get the success i did ,,, lots dont and i wouldnt wish to push my luck ... that time was then ,this is now ,,, i still retain my contacts i made over the years and its a fascinating game ,,,, but it is that a game ,,, you can win and lose
By:
carlisle ... local track hot summers day ,,, carlsbeg lager handicap tyrone williams pushes field side ways he wins stewards inq,,, dont worry boss its fine ,,, we win ... we wheel 12 packs of lager off the track in a wheelbarrow ,, we didnt quite need the wheelbarrow for the cash though
By:

My family have had horses for generations Kemo, used to be dragged along to meetings.Hated it,loved the horses, atmosphere etc.......but at pre teens had no interest in betting.
Changed attitude when Highland Wedding won the GN with some pocket money on,still wasnt addicted in any way. Then Red Rum won me a bit and friends of the family had a Horse called Elie Marine who won at 11/1 and bought me a brand new Suzuki 250,fastest road bike of its time. All went down......or uphill from there depending how you view things, joined the army and earned more than the CO backing the likes of K Battery,Gunner B,Staffordshire Knot among the lesser lights. Bought my own first horse with the profis............won first time out at 12/1 on 27/08/79............a Bank Holiday Monday in UK. |
