could be a long thread, a very long thread ![]() |

I can't understand how sprinters NEVER get rated so highly as middle distance horses
![]() |
By:
I don't really care whether Frankel is the best ever or not. I simply enjoyed watching him race in exactly the same way that I've enjoyed watching all the other great horses over the years.
By:
Motley if you have any real interest in this sport you should be more worried by the fact it took so long to downgrade Dancing Brave. Strangely enough it happened when Frankel retired and only because Frankel never achieved what was hoped he would achieve. If all else fails downgrade a horse whose rating has never been questioned in 26 years. It stinks.
By:
Brigust probably right about European horses from the 60s onwards. Ribot comes into it if you include all post war runners. And of course Secretariat would probably be top of the pile internationally.
By:
Agree about Secretariat his course records in the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes still stand to this day. Just the drug issue is a put off.

My top five in no order
Sea Bird Sea the Stars Brigadier Gerard Dancing Brave Frankel |
By:
i don't think anyone will ever really know for sure, you just have to accept that any of those over 140 are the cream and enjoy them if lucky enough to be around to see it first hand
i often wonder what people would say if they had happened in a different order, so for example if sts had come after frankel would his rating be influenced by the need to show progession in the sport? any fan could watch any replay from the horses in that list and make a case for each of them |
By:
a good point elise,
which demonstrates the era we live in when everything good that comes along, has to be the next best thing for commercial reasons ! |
By:
timeform etc need something to keep them busy

By:
frankels off day he won the st james palace stakes groupe one royal ascot, the others got beat on there off days.but as pauli says it was great to enjoy all of them.

By:
what about Precision Strike
By:
just noticed they have downgraded dancing braves rating htf can they do that.
By:
Great horse but the proximity of horses such as Zoffany and Cirrus give me serious doubts.
By:
what about the proximity of dream ahead and excellabration, not to mention canford cliffs.

What rating for Pretty Polly?
She won 22 of 24, almost all of them in a canter. Won the fillies triple crown (all in a canter). Thrashed the 2 best colts of her age group whenever she met them. Won on her debut at Sandown (5f) by 10 lengths (beating a colt who would be 2nd in the 2000 and Derby). Won the Coronation Cup (in a canter) in 2m33 and 4/5secs. (5 secs faster than the Derby, 4 secs faster than the Oaks). Beaten just twice - once in France (had excuses), and in the Ascot Gold Cup (she went off 4/11). Her story here:- http://archive.org/stream/prettypollyhisto00lech#page/48/mode/2up |

So let me get this right, yy Frankel never coming out of his comfort zone,Dancing Brave suddenly isn't as impressive in those 26 year old clips?

Why couldn't they just put frankel on 144, doesn't the fact that they actually moved a horse down to accommodate frankel actually, take away from frankel himself, when they really want to be putting him on a pedastool.
By:
I believe the best of his own generation by some way on collateral form worldwide, but never ran in competitive races in my view except cirrus who may have been on the downgrade,he was a pleasure to watch.Best of all time i could not say for sure i dont think many of the top performers get much past 135 on any handicap scale, conditions and excuses for those behind always a issue.

Barcelona best club team in Europe/world
Chelsea beat Barcelona QPR beat Chelsea Ergo, QPR best team in Europe/World Comparative ratings for football/horseracing are based on a sound theory. Discuss. |

it was really Redknapp vs Benitez imo,
therefore Harry is better than Daygo wot manages Barca ![]() |

They are rating the trainer. Jolly good chap, what was that horse he had this year? Franke Lane. Let's give it a cracking good mark.

I believe the "official" winner would be Monksfield. This might also answer the "why aren't sprinters rated as highly" question. Personally I think Frankel was better than the monkey but what do I know? It's only a number after all! |

By:
Sea Bird
mill Reef B gerard D Brave Frankel My top 5, dont give a stuff which is best to be honest, and i couldnt name 1 with confidence anyway. |
By:
Sea Bird has to be the best for me.
By:
STS better than Frankel??? LOL,biggest joke ever. If they met over a mile STS wouldn't get within 6 lenghts. If they me over a aile and a quarter frankel would be a 1/4 sht and win with a tonne in hand. Frankel won races by massive margin STS was a tough horse but a grinder. Frankel was brilliant STS was just very good. No contest.
By:
best horse ive ever seen, carnt believe people want to knock him. Turn of foot so impressive, put 5 lengths on his rivals in a few strides.
By:
An argument that cannot be won by anyone, I mean who's to say Eclipse would not beat every horse mentioned, the answer is we will never know.

By:
best horses do it over any distances, the trainer and the owner bottled it, the best horse at a limited distance
