How dare C4 not want unashamed sexism, horrible misogyny and thoroughly hypocritical and reactionary right wing vitriol spewed out to their audience by a hopelessly faded freak show, imo...

Big Mac promoted himself as the 'punters friend' now he is trying to get a job as the 'oldies friend'. Whats the betting some programme respresenting the elderly employs him after this, or because of this?

I hope it does go to court, and IMG show a nice selection of clips, such as his appearences on Big Brother and Wife Swap, clips from some of his 'performances' on C4, and of course examples of his laughable hypocrisy. Then they can explain how, after investing significant amounts of money in their new product, how they don't feel he is appropriate to be involved in their coverage in this day and age. |

I'm with Big Mac. Ageism in the modern workplace is real horrible sh*t. More power to home. Hope he wins. Glad he's proposed that some of the potential fees will be used to combat this dispicable workplace crime.
Been working in global finance the last couple of years and I can tell you the sh*t I've encountered purely because someone is older and think they know better than me is a complete joke. Thankfully after cutting my teeth on here for so long on here I just let them dig their own graves. Worked a treat. If I could actually prove that some of these ol' farts are actually making more than purely becaue of their age and length of service with the company even though I'm destroying them every day then I'd do the same exact thing as Big Mc. Pretty sure I'm right...just cant prove it. Anyhow...that's just my own personal view on the topic of ageism. you can all go back to hating on Big Mc ;-) |

I dont think Big Mac thinks he is being discriminated against because he is too young tbh
![]() which seems the gist of your post ![]() ![]() I dont really see how it can apply to entertainment anyway |
|
By:
Good luck to the old fella and I can just imagine him at the stand in court waving his arms and pointing at
C4 calling the odds in tick tack man fashion, should be one of the best cases in years IMO ![]() |
|
By:
I hope he wins and gets his job back.Ludicrous characters are more entertaining than bland dead wood.
|
|
By:
He's such a phoney and I detest him. I just can't help feeling he's got a good case as he is surely still a big drawcard, as witnessed by the popularity of this thread and the strength of opinions for and against.

Big Mac may very well win this claim, with the goverments trying to keep us all in work till we die,it will be interesting to watch the result?
|
|
By:
No win no fee means he is highly likely to get a result.
The obvious reason is Rishi (I would not be suprised if he did not have the worst audience data results of all who worked for the BBC and C4). If his ring job had gone they shopuld still have offered him a similar job if his feed back results were better than someone still employed. Therefore why could not Big Mac not be given the chance to ask stupid questions to connections after the race, he would excel at it. I think there are people who have jobs (more than one) who are worse than Big Mac and better presenters who no longer have jobs. |
|

'Therefore why could not Big Mac not be given the chance to ask stupid questions to connections after the race he would excel at it'
Eont, You've answered your own question, they would be stupid questions from Big Mac, hopefully the new team will not be carrying out worthless interviews. People within racing don't want to be interviewed by Mcririck, could end up with no one to talk too meaning we would have to listen more to the expert airtime filler Graham Cunningham. |
|
By:
Holywell, I was saying Big Mac could ask the stupid questions Rishi, Spencer ans Plunkett ask.
If you read the C4 website it seems that Big Mac, Down and Thomo are seriously missed already and more popular than many who have jobs. If the audience research backed those comments up, Big Mac would have a good case. So would the other two as well (may be they are doing it with less fan fare). |
|
By:
Why does Big Mac think he should have a job for life ? He has said himself that he has been with the programme since the mid 80s.Perhaps the new people viewed him as old hat.I certainly did.Same old same old.Boring.

it's a sad state of affairs when Mac believes he is the "face of racing".
It is true that the non-racing media often ask him for an opinion to express to the non-racing population. But when you think they could ask Brough Scott, Peter O'Sullevan, Paul Bittar, Greg Wood, Richard Hoiles, Jim McGrath, Nick Luck.... to name but a few who would be considerably more enlightened on all things racing than Mac. At least IMG have had the good sense to rectify matters. |
|
By:
Whenever there is a story in racing they always go to Mc Crirrick, I don't know why.Yes people will miss him at first but the new team are there now. Why can't he just accept it? As time has gone by he has made what was a funny informative character into a buffoon and a greedy misguided one at that.
|
|
By:
He was once an award winning journalist who like many others joined the gravy train where of course your principles are compromised. It is sad that the national media always turn to Mcririck when the sport is in the news for the wrong reasons.

great decision to drop the useless bastard what actually did he give to the show many of us could sit there and tic tac the odds as he does i think he believes he is the last living person who remembers this long lost art no longer needed in the betting ring as a reader of form he was hopeless and his rants about the whip embarrassing when addressing top jockeys and telling them they shouldnt need it i bet he's never had the balls to sit on a horse never mind ride one good riddance one of the most despicable human beings i have ever witnessed

I've no doubt most people who have had to deal with him would agree with Boy Wonder.
Plenty of people will be very happy at his demise, imo, and it's no less than he deserves... |
|
By:
Can't understand this at all. He was employed on a rolling contract not as a member of staff. He has no chance of winning and he has put paid to any chance of any future work with the channel if they had a change of heart.

All sports had their characters, but the shows move on,and changes don't alter the viewing of the sport.
Think of Arlott,Johnstone,Lowe,Mc.Claren etc.,all giants in their sports, but it carries on well without them, leaving us with fond memories. I am strongly in the well-rid camp.Big Mac still thinks he is clever when he uses tick tack to emphasise a price, something that disappeared from the courses years ago(Doc,Rocky,Mickey). Listening to him being interviewed on Radio2,he came over as a big-headed know-all,saying he had done this that and tother. He should be told that the game has drastically changed and is run along different lines from yesteryear.Besides which there are others around with a decent television persona that can do the job. He was good for many years, and got fame ,and a great living from his work, and should now bow out gracefully, not in his aggressive manner, with lawsuits. |
|
By:
I don't hate the guy! In fact I found him mildly amusing when I first got into the game as a 16 year old in the mid 90s. But, the last few years he's become a flustered old man and was making too many mistakes. He was probably not helped by having that crow Tanya on his shoulder. Her voice is like someone scrapping their nails down a blackboard and I think we'd all make mistakes with her wittering on at our sides. She doesn't bring anything to the table and I find the whole person in the betting ring completely outdated. What purpose does it serve to go on about horses being backed or not, hours before the race in question? The ones being backed tend to be the ones put up by Tom Segal or the horse has rattled off 3 wins on the spin without coming off the bridle and the drifters tend to be horses who are trying a new trip, surface or coming back from a long absence. All you need is to keep the betting market (exchange & bookie) up at the side of the screen for the few minutes up to each race start and you can make your own minds up on what's off and not off. Or better still have a changing plus & minus percentage figure by each runners price from when the market first opened.

Don't know if this is relevant or not but if Big Mac has a case why didn't Arlene Phillips have one against the BBC when she was jocked off Strictly for someone who knew nothing about dancing?

Knowledge is one part of job, good personality is another important part. Many find Big Mac totally obnoxious, due to his Victorian mannerisms, and Channel 4 probably thought it wasn't worth the gamble sticking with him.
Just on this forum alone there are plenty pleased to see him go,says it all.The times they are a changin. |

I doubt this forum is representative of the viewing public. There can't be that many pocket talking haters out there.

'it's just been on the news that John Mcririck is sueing for unfair dismissal, he's an obnoxious **** whose lucky to be working at his age', one of the other guys, once again no interest in racing said 'he's a right prat'. By the number of posts above you'd think I'd been out on the drink today.
