Being trained for dressage ! Unbelievable, a bit like sending Frankel to Billy Smart's circus. Is this guy real ?

perhaps he should be left in a field to idle away rather than be kept extremely active in a second career...seem to think denman left ditcheat to go team chasing and dont remember the nicholls team complaining then

Seems a perfectly reasonable 2nd career option to me.

Why do others see otherwise?

I can see why he is doing it because Kauto is such an elegant horse.Do i agree with it?Not so much...

I was reading before that he sent Neptune Collonges off to dressage aswell, alright, not held in quite the regard as Kauto was in most people's opinions, but even so, a GN Winner, and a top class chaser in his own right.

What does this guy still want/need from these 2 greats, Surely has he not had enough success/money that hasn't been provided through their careers in racing?

At the end of the day its Mr Smiths horse he can do what he wants, nothing wrong with Kauto moving on , just one less stable star that fatty cant milk the gravy train with.

There'd have been hell to play if Clive Smith had sent Neptune Collonges off to dressage!

Clive Smith is NOT trying to milk the horse, ffs!

He wants a horse that has been used to a training regime to do something active. in non racing terms KS is not an old horse.

The dressage routine gives him a chance to still be active without the risks of racing, hunting, etc.

The level that KS is likely to be competing at, if he shows an aptitude for it, will be local riding club standard.

The decision was made by the owner in the best interests of the horse and is not for profit or fame.

For gods sake has this horse not done enough , what does that Smith want, he wont be happy til Kauto has hurt himself.

Not the decent chap i thought he seemed.

maybe someone should ask the horse!!!!

imo there is nothing wrong with what he is doing and if anything its something the horse will enjoy. he's not old for a horse and dressage may well be idea for a horse that has spent most its life in physical training,

i'm sure he has taken advice on it, wouldnt have taken the decision lightly and only done it for the benefit of the horse.

The way he was bucking and kicking across that paddock at Sandown the other day I'd have thought rodeo would be the way to go before dressage!

But Busvaldo makes a valid point. You can't bask in all the adulation that came from being associated with a horse the racing public took to their hearts without realising people feel they have a vested interest in what happens to the horse in future.

just read the Nichols column above, clearly he doesnt think its the right decision by the so called experts that the owner consulted. maybe he's wrong, lets just hope it is the best way forward for such a great champion.

If story is true, I totally agree with Loper - KS will continue to receive a lot of attention, will remain fitter than lolloping around in a field, and will (hopefully) enjoy the experience. That said, for some reason, can't stand the smug CS and for some reason, can't warm to the fat one - no denying his skill as a trainer though.

Dont think the horse needs, will like or deserves the sort of treatment that Dressage horses get,if what i have heard is correct.

Hes earnt the right to do feck all but run around a field with a few mates, and eat, drink and be lazy, imo.

Personally think Clive Smith is a c u next tuesday.

I'm sure the racing public would have loved to see him paraded at the big meetings for years to come. Poncing around in front of a few toffs at dressage events and picking up the odd rosette is not a fitting end for a racing legend.

WALOFS

Owner has every right to do with the horse as he sees fit. Brave Inca and Moscow Flyer have been to showjumping events.

PF Nicholls yet again showing himself as an ar5e with his pathetic "Column".
"We all wanted him to see out his days with Clifford" Tripe imho

Everyone has their right to an opinion and in hindsight my post above is OTT, but I still think Clive has every right to choose as he sees fit. He obviously feels leaving the horse out in some field is not the way to treat a horse who has been in physical training for much of his career. Obviously he wont be doing dressage for the rest of his life.

Maybe Clive doesnt want to have to travel to Ditcheat also everytime he wants to see his horse Happy

Best of Luck to owner and horse. A long and happy retirement fully deserved

I can understand the thinking behind it, but there's just something very wrong about the idea of one of the all time sporting greats getting paraded around like some glorified My Little Pony, imo...
