I echo some of your views HV,I do rate big Al as one of the better ones though.Sir Clement kept me buying the paper and Steve Dennis was very good with his blog.Palmer,Pullein and the boring fart from Kentucky pulled the paper and website down to a depth that would have killed most divers.
Even Big Macs columns were usually a good read and Brough Scott made a worthwhile contribution. The website even went as far as to attempt to banish(did eventually)and policed the site during the night for tipsters outshining their own, hence Steve Dennis was banished from the blogs. |

Seems to be happening here now????????

The reason i stopped buying the paper was because the so called bookies that the post gives so much space to ,to spread there lies and fraudulent quotes wouldn't take my bets.
No point in buying it anymore. |

They have lots of articles that have little relevance to your average punter who buys and reads the racing post. Eventually they will have to rethink their content strategy or I fear the worst if they are losing readers at the current rate. I wonder how many articles are actually properly read by people. Not too many I expect. Punters in my opinion are slective readers and you get to the point that if very few are reading articles there is no point in paying for them to be written. They could then reduce the cost of purchase and printing costs and then it may survive.

there was something i noticed either today or yesterday and it made me cringe at the stupidity of it - it was the reproduction of bookies quotes about the hughes seven-timer and how much it cost them.
what a load of rubbish, why accept their figures like this and my own pet dislike is when they reproduce the PR bullsh!t that this or that has been laid to lose 100 grand or a 5k bet was placed at 10s this morning and what was that one not so long ago - i think it was Hills yet again about someone had bet a couple of hundred grand was it, or perhaps even more. i can't remember what it was on, even the other bookie PRs came out and openly scoffed (Graham Sharpe and Mike Dillon surely use to vie with each other as to who could get the most outrageous nonsense bets claimed to be laid by Hills/Ladbrokes) |
|
By:
It's all lies Happy especially as Hughes was not down to ride the last winner....
|
|
By:
perhaps how the Post gives free rein or is it reign (i'm so tired) to these bookie claims these days is indeed a measure of how the bookie's advertising revenue as a proportion of total income has the Racing Post editorial policy by the short and curlies
i doubt, truly, there is any general policy or an edict it will be more like unspoken self censorship |

By:
Spot on councillor. Read it in Spoils yesterday absolutely nothing in it for your average punter in fact you'd read more gossip on here(and as much bs) then in it.

If it's possible to have more than one user on an account at one time then just a thought, buy one subscription and everyone use the one login! Dispicable robbing racing post Khoonts!

HFT you are a stupid useless tipster and writer and an insecure individual who cannot accept criticism.1.01 this will not be pulled as HFT does not work for the Pacing Roast.

GT-MOLE..yes NO and yes...Should I write my critique again...so it can be pulled...

A.D. I think that I'm not only speaking for myself when I say that when you can identify the posters that matter on here you can glean a lot of useful knowledge that posters share with each other, I include yourself in that description. Peop.le like guinness2dear, ronnie rails and the likes are actually worth reading, plus many more besides.
Homeforetea, I had a post pulled that was visible for approximately 3.5 seconds a bit earlier. I said nothing wrong or controversial, just said it like it was. The original post was that Racing Post sales are down, I for one will never buy it again..ever. |

Dont waste your time hft, mention any currently employed name and it will be pulled.Exactly how the RP website went downhill and eventually had no respondents on any of the blogs that still existed.
They removed all that were punter friendly, popular or informative, all that were left were self serving sycophantic and moronic.Or one in particular that glorified doing your nuts, sleeping on friends sofas and getting mates to put bets on until payday. No idea who that is/was but he was caught out at the St Andrews Open when the wind blew and forced a suspension and he was in the pub whilst I was informing his blog live from Fife. Any idea who he is? ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Why don't Betfair apply for the rights to reproduce form?
Pop it up, along with Timeform racereaders comments, on-line for the same price as the RP. Get the decent RP journalists to write a daily piece on the BF Blog. Then they can basically tell BM to FO and hang the High St Bookies and their advertising rag out to dry. |

KP must have more splinters in his arse than any schoolboy who ever slid down a wooden banister.Never known anyone to spend time typing 600 words and state........no bet is the recommended punt.
He must have thrived on the old chestnuts......Its a game of two halves.......the first team to score will have the advantage,if nobody scores it could end in a draw. ![]() ![]() And what about "The Anorak" and Tony Morris? YAWN ![]() |

GT it is worse than that - when he does recommend a bet it is with the dreaded nobet£3.65.He talks a load of left wing s hite but I will guarantee he has a nice house in the Country....Then he says "heading should be banned"...
If he lived next door to me then it would be "recommendation move out".... |

What would we really want from the racing Post???? The race cards and form that follow sequentially without stats in between. The draw bias within the race card so I dont have to search for it for each race and struggle to find it.. Anyone else with any suggestions??????

If you had one company quickly removing anything that referred to an employee of another company in less than glowing terms on their forum, do you think we could come to the conclusion that said second company/employee had threatened to take some sort of action against the first company if things were not removed?

very very sad to hear about the drop in circulation though as still feel huge affinity with the paper and buy it blindly everyday when back in uk actually i thought it had improved this summer with better content do hope it doesn't go T!ts up as there will be much blood on the floor, lots of lost jobs and Alan Byrne's investors he put together will take an enormous hammering which would be very sad ------------------- Will only be matching the, "blood," that they put, "on the floor," in 1998. Website will still need content, updating, maintaining etc, etc. As for the Irish investors - 10,000 on-line subscribers - so we have been told - at minimum of £13 per month is £1.5 million revenue per annum. |

Gonzo..If I ran a rapidly sinking ship yes....
Beats me how the backers of the said organ still let it be run under the present Editor who seems to be on an ego trip and employs similar clueless pundits to write articles that on any other paper would be rejected as re-cycled rubbish... However perhaps there is a plan to run the former respected paper into the ground so that we can all access it via the website... In which case think again because when I access Racing via the web then the RP would be the last site that I would use.... |
|
By:
hello dr gonzo
i have replied to your email about a month late i know, but i had never recived one before and dont even know how i come accross it. agree about how the post treats its punters, its a bookmakers paper monopolies are no good. |
|
By:
goretski, i did that once, had subscription that some sound bloke posted to me on here as he didnt use it. i gave it to a few people and they shut down the account

By:
Hi jimnast - just replied to you.
As you say, a bookmakers paper. The inclusion of Steve Palmer tells you that. Irrelevant how entertaining he might be - his punting is exactly the sort the bookies want |

The bottom line is that the Racing Post have got way above themselves and their arrogance will be their downfall. There was a time (from the first publication) when it shone like a beacon for several years and during a massive time of change within the racing and betting industry.
I corresponded and crossed swords with Paul Haigh on several occasions and always got a reasoned if flawed response imo.The point being that a response was forthcoming and not only from Paul.......he was flawed but could run rings around todays sycophants. His main flaws were a love of cricket,a Tote monopoly and a penchant for saying it as he saw it..........forced out by PC lunacy or myopic management? Whatever the reasons the RP is going downhill it is sad to witness. |
