Wonder how much longer their treating punters with disdain to keep the bookies advertising money coming in can remain viable for?

The wait is over for the Racing Post iPad app

THE Racing Post iPad app is available now from the App Store, featuring not only newspaper content but also our Live service, access to our Database and a new Organiser feature.

The first edition will be available from 8pm the night before publication while the complete edition, updated at no extra cost, will be available from midnight and contain full reports, news, sport and greyhound services.

Access will be free to all for the first 30 days, after which users will be able to sign up for an introductory price of £24.99 per month via the App Store. The daily edition will cost £1.99. Surprised

Very well said Millhouse. I started buying The Sporting Life every single day from around 1977 whether I went racing or not, when The Racing Post replaced it I bought it religiously as well. I stopped buying it around four years ago because of Millington and I am supposed to be its very target audience. I may give it a cursory glance if one is lying around but as a paying customer they lost me a long time ago.

Yet I can't help but feel they couldn't give a monkeys about people like me, it's all very puzzling to be honest with you.

The paper is not even good enough to be used to soak up dog sick or dribble on the floor.

If your readership is smarter than you thought, can see through your ham-fisted and thoroughly exploitative attempts to reprogramme their expectations of betting like a pane of glass, and are vanishing by the day, then you have no product to sell to your advertisers, imo...

I phoned them once and spoke to some editorial guy as they were only printing a short form version for Irish Racing. It was like talking to the wall. This has improved though in recent times thank goodness. However, they still havnt a clue how to orrganise the form pages. The form is all over the place with every other stat in between. They should have a focus group of users to tell them what they want to see and how the paper should look. They may stand a chance of survival then.

Here's a question then. What horse was the banner headline on the last Sporting Life?

Any publication who has got rid of the likes of Paul Haigh and employed Steve Palmer, got rid and taken him back can only go in one direction and it is not up.Also got rid of the Steve Dennis blog due to its success, says it all really.

I don't mind paying for membership, I think it's good value. However, as a member I do object to being subjected to pop-up ads every time I visit the site. It's bad enough with the on page ads slowing it down.

I have it duncan, but the site is still pretty slow. Also affects horse/race pop-ups at times too.

Point is, as subscribers, we shouldn't have to arse around with stuff like that.

i stopped liking the RP once they started putting all the sports prices together - you would be reading about a football match and then have to flick 10 pages to get the prices for it
I used to get it every time there was a decent football program ie champions league, full championship program etc , now i just get it most fridays and every saturday during the football season

There was a lady selling Racing Posts at the 4 day York meeting in August on the road from the car park to the entrance. Her sales pitch was "good morning Racing Post, good morning Racing Post, good morning Racing Post, good morning Racing Post" ad infinitum without a break. One day I was a bit later going in and it was "good afternoon Racing Post, good afternoon Racing Post, good afternoon Racing Post, etc etc ".
Felt quite sorry for her because I didn't see her sell one and I had already bought my copy at the newsagents. I was more interested in whether she made the change in her sales pitch at exactly midday but I never found out.

Any Exec that gives Bruce in charge is bound to fail.

His skills are non existent for a supposed professional.

His understanding of sport is slanted and flawed.

There is something of Napoleon deciding on a winter campaign about Russia about Bruce.

I suspect he could not tell a tall story and can be quite short with people.

Some of the journalists that have left the RP dwarf him for talent.

Bruce works hard.

I am sure he is Happy in his work and is far from Dopey.

Sometimes Grumpy and occasionally Bashful in the presence of Turf Superstars.

I'm sure he goes home Sleepy.

Apparently newsagents have reported increased sales of p0rn0 mags as purchasers of the RP look for a less embarrassing publication to tuck it into...

i thought it was excellent for the first 10 years or so, then it started to lose much of its news content and it also seemed to give a voice to too many columnists who were not up to the job which detracted from those brilliant ones they had, such as Haigh and then Ashforth and latterly Freud.

Alastair Down of little upside and Peter Thomas a much poorer writer than Haigh, imo.

Never met Millington but have read his columns and then seem a bit lacking in quality or originality, imo.

very very sad to hear about the drop in circulation though as still feel huge affinity with the paper and buy it blindly everyday when back in uk

actually i thought it had improved this summer with better content

do hope it doesn't go T!ts up as there will be much blood on the floor, lots of lost jobs and Alan Byrne's investors he put together will take an enormous hammering which would be very sad
