Wasn't the ascot burger £8.50 last year?  Or was that including chips?

i was studying the fish and chips on the saturday whilst passing time on.
£7.50 with about a dozen chips but the fish looked awful. no way could they sell that reconstituted stuff in the north [ except maybe chester ]

a 500ml bottle of water from bookers will set the Private caterer back 16p (£3.85  /  24 )and a half decent 1/4 lb burger will still be well under a £1, given the buying power of the large catering groups Im pretty sure that at the prices they charge they will not be complaining, £5-50 for a takeaway burger is robbery...as for the VAT, really ?

Here are a few other strange quirks of the VAT rules:
Cold take-away food is zero-rated for VAT, while hot take-away food is subject to standard-rate VAT;
Nuts in their shells are zero-rated for VAT, while shelled, roasted or salted nuts are subject to VAT at the standard rate;
Potato crisps are subject to standard-rate VAT, but maize- and corn-based snacks such as tortilla chips are zero-rated;
Frozen foods are zero-rated, yet ice-cream and frozen yoghurt are subject to standard-rate VAT.

Tip for southerners coming north.Try to find a sam smiths pub where prices are always reasonable.Had a pint in Scarborough yesterday at an amazing £1.42.The view from the pub over the harbour was also brilliant.

When: 28 Jun 12 18:39
yes , i know bbc2 , that was the reply i was expecting. most do want each way bets on ousiders though.
i think most are still struggling to work out how you get less by taking 17/1 than you do by taking 16/1 when betting each way.

see you on sunday when hospitality is all in tatts this year

heres one for yer i went cheltenham races this year on a minibus
had about 3-4 pints at the plaisterers arms in winchcombe before racing
price about £3.20 a pint then went there after for a few more
some had meals with their winnings i did not
at the racecourse i did not buy any food beer drinks racecards
i had a hipflask with some quality brandy remy martin
took some snacks in with me this was in the best mate,
so those so and so's got f'all off me as did the bookies
as i placed all my bets on betfair before, some at prices some bsp,
cheltenham's best mate enclosure has got the worst value books probably in the world but still tens of thousands of sheep herded punters take their prices
and pay stupid prices for everything else
you get what you pay for
and as paul weller said 'the public gets what the public wants'
but i have gone underground Laugh

johnnywilkinson,
i'm not sure what point you are trying to get accross
but if you mean i turn up and don't lay favourites blindly that would be correct [ i've just spent two hours studying tonights doncaster card.]
and if you mean i try to stand some ousiders that have no hope on form you are also correct

the more i seem to study the more i seem to win. that , in my opinion , is why i show a profit on a regular basis.
but there again , you might think i'm just lucky

sorry johnny, you're wrong yet again.
he bets next but one to me at beverley where he is treated with disdain by all books
at york we are 100 yards apart
at stratford he bets next to last out on the front . i'm number 3 or 4 at the opposite end on the second line
at doncaster i am on the front and he is in the wilderness.
at the other 18 courses i bet at he doesn't have a pitch.........so just beverley

anyone have any reports on how he performed at chester [ i don't bet there]

I know he did 1/8th on one on the Friday night.  I have been told that someone has seen his 1/14th odds sign but it hasn't been used yet.  Apparently the '14th' bit is a bit squiggly and hard to read - no surprise there then!

what do you mean by adapt , kingrat.
if you mean that i should match him by going 1/8th odds each way , or 1/12th or whatever there is not a chance in hell.
i value my good reputation where he and a good number of others do not

if anyone is at uttoxeter today come and say hello. it's a freebie for john smith's drinkers and they certainly need some incentive to drink the stuff

yes but racecourse Bookmakers maintain the tracks shouldn't be able to impose [place terms on them. Even though what they impose would force everyone to bet better on the win book
those betting 'win only' forfeit 35-40% of the action
we don't help ourselves, even when it's offered. It's a futile approach

i noticed at worcester the other day the day after campbell gillies had lost his life,the annoucer tried to organise a minutes silence but was drowned out by a chap who was shouting ....."money without work" somebody had to have a word with him......and you rip into mr.wilson ....some off you realley do have to get ya priorietys right ...ya a embarrasment

Johnny
I wasn't there the other day but that is one thing that does vex me.I couldn't tell you the number of times I've told fellow bookmakers to shut up when there's been a minutes silence.It seems they are in their old little world & are oblivious to what's going on around them.

Wilson 1/8th in the last at Chester on Friday evening. Opened up at 7s on the gambled on eventual fav of Tom Dascombes, seen him take a few bets and hastily cut to 11/2Blush

One thing I will guarantee Marsh is that if he was 7/1 it would be a fraction over 8.0 on here. He never offers above exchange price on win or place. No earn, no bet.

Yes, of course it is.  Better value on the course than off it will bring punters in.  Dubious practices which leave a bad taste in punters' mouths will only drive them away.  Think of the future, not just the race you are betting on.  What Jack Wilson is doing is making us all look like thieves and con men and tarnishing the image of the ring as a whole.
