‘It’s a joke how you rate Black Caviar’

Australian trainer Paul Messara believes that the English racing fraternity are deluded when it comes to their assessment of Black Caviar, the world’s highest-rated sprinter.

The unbeaten mare, trained by Peter Moody, left Australia yesterday and arrives in England this afternoon after over 30 hours in the air including stopovers in Singapore and Sharjah.

Black Caviar’s unblemished record in 21 starts includes victories over 2009 King’s Stand Stakes winner Scenic Blast, who she beat by over seven lengths twice during the autumn.

The six-year-old was priced at 1-20 for her last start in Australia, and although she had scared off most of the best sprinters she trades at a best-price of 1-2 for the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot on June 23.

“If she arrives well and they are still offering 1-2 you should sell your house,” Messara told RacingUK.com. “She only needs to be 80 per cent to win here. I'm sure they won't give her a hard time, but from an Australian point of view, I'd love it if they got stuck into her and she won by half the track.

“Look, there is no chance she'll get beat if she arrives without problems. Zero. These guys over here are kidding themselves, it is almost a joke.”

Messara has brought over his own sprint sensation in the shape of Ortensia, who won the Al Quoz sprint at Meydan racecourse on Dubai World Cup night in March.

Ortensia put a field of eight Group 1 winners to the sword in Dubai in a time 0.34 seconds outside the track record and is priced at 6-1 for the King’s Stand Stakes on the first day of the five-day Royal meeting on June 19. Roger Charlton’s Bated Breath is the 9-2 favourite.

“I think the English like a local favourite and I'm a foreigner with a foreign horse,” Messara added. “I think the form in Dubai will stand up as Sole Power came out the other day and could have won.”

I couldn't care less if she is Australian, American, Swedish or Mexican, seriously, she is coming to our shores and I am going to be maxing out everything to bet her. It will be a privilege to watch her run and take home the winnings.

What's with all this misplaced Aussie jingoism?

It is people like MESSARA who are DELUDED. - i thinking that ALL England is against Black Caviar.

People like me have been fulsome in praise of her for two years now -

- and, most especially, because Form Students such as myself,  have recognised - from some 10 years ago - that she has nothing of real consequence to beat in our Sprinting division.

Maybe she's only 1-2 because she won't be racing trees and is being asked to do something she's never done before and it's not just English horses she will be facing either, there's the Irish horses and Moonlight Cloud and Wizz Kid are French challengers and I like Wizz Kid myself, plus Krypton Factor is from Bahrain and she might also have a few older milers drop back in trip and some from the classic generation that possibly didn't stay the mile.

listen, mugazed66. you've seen these australian horses come to Ascot and win, what's happened in Newmarket is absolutely irrelevant, it's always been an afterthought I am yet to see a trainer set a horse to win at Newmarket

you've seen these horses win, Takeover Target, Choisir, Miss Andretti, Scenic Blast.. you HAVE seen these horses win, I can't say it enough

Hay List is rated HIGHER, let me make it clear.. Hay List is BETTER then these horses who have WON at your infamous track

Black Caviar has BEATEN Hay List, every time

he is no TREE, absolutely no way in the world is he a TREE, I can acknowledge some of the horses she's beaten in some of her races.. no they haven't been of world class standard, Hay List is absolutely world class standard, he would beat anything you have, I have said it since day dot and I still say it to this day, when he comes back even after his 2nd colic attack, he will still be the 2nd best sprinter in the world, without her.. he's the champ

and if you want to see how good he is, here it is.

it is true why do they only send over sprinters........hardly the most competitive division over hear.........full of ex handicappers and improved selling platers and in recent history a failed cartmel hurdler....so yes shes a cert unless one of the milers decides to drop down in trip which would make life intersting

What's up with YOU - keep staring these threads?

The vast majority of people in England - who have ANY conception of Horse Racing FORM - AGREE with you ....

So why the continual antagonistic bombardment from YOU?

I think these australian types have issues regarding horseracing

They obviously see how the british really appreciate seeing a class horse and become frustrated at the lack of interest in thier own country , he only wants to talk about the horse on here as probably as most in australia think Black Caviar is a cause off gout

LOL...no you listen edunce and the difference being I use listen seeing as you probably read aloud and follow the words on screen with your finger.

Yes I've seen wins from Takeover Target (1 from 8 and only 1 from 6 at Ascot), Choisir (2 from 3), Miss Andretti (1 from 2, both Ascot) and Scenic Blast (1 from 2, both Ascot) but I've seen them lose far more often and make it 5 wins from 15 starts, but why don't you invite megsy over if it helps to have a visual aid, where one of you can hold up 5 fingers for the wins and the other can hold up 10 for the defeats (that will mean 2 hands), of which only 3 were at Newmarket so even ignoring those seeing as you claim they were afterthoughts (I wonder if that would have been the case if they were Aussie wins? lol) that still leaves the defeats at Ascot outnumbering the victories and that's without including some of the other Aussie horses that came over and got stuffed too.

Oh and by the way, the UK has won Eurovision 5 times from God knows how many more failed attempts, so does that make us the best?

I take it you do know what the expression cherry picking actually means right? Laugh

You cannot deny that the British are both magnanamous and fair, they will give her a reception befitting a champion.
I would love to see her stroll home but there is no way i would back at twos on a mare that has travelled halfway across the world,if she were beaten it would not detract from her achievements. Not backing a horse because the odds are too low is not a slur on the horse its just judicious betting.

Seriously though...I want her to obliterate the field, and not just scrape home.

She has to really seeing as though the Aussies are saying she will be up against B rated plodders.

If that's the case then anything else other than really hosing up has to go down as a disappointment and talk about setting yourself up for a fall. Blush
