Best of luck Rob, I think Venetia Williams could have the winner of the 3.30 Ludlow as she has two runners recieving weight here, the bigger price horse showed some signs of a revival last time.

Tomorrow’s card at Kempton in terms of quantity & quality is one of the best card’s I’ve seen for a while, if not the best. The boys in blue are most definitely looking to have a big say in proceedings, with Dettori, Barzalona and De Sousa all on duty they're obviously expecting some sort of return. Having scanned the cards peripherally have concentrated my efforts on the class 2 events, and although Godolphin has strong claims in both those races I have been drawn to a couple of other runners at considerably bigger odds.

    In the 14.05 the London mile qualifier there appears to be a decent mixture of the tried and tested home guard, against the unexposed profile of the new kids on the block. It’s a one of the latter ranks that has caught my attentions, and a very nicely priced one at that. Imo it’s a little insulting for The Tichborne to be considered a 33-1 shot, however that is the case with a few firms, but that price is Imo to big in regards to the potential of his chance. When making his race course debut over 7F on course was far too green, and after being cajoled along for the majority of the contest did at least stick on to be a never nearer 6th, looking badly in need of the experience. He did improve for that run Nto at Lingfield, turning a reasonable standard maiden into a route. Connections turned him out 11 days later at Lingfield, and upped him to a mile, and off his mark of 83 won in workman like fashion before being put away for the turf.
    He started his turf campaign off over a mile at Windsor last May, and looked like he may have needed it, after battling to get on top of the long time leader seemed to falter late on, and wasn't beaten too far into 3rd  trying to give lumps of weight away. He then went on to run a reasonably good race at H.Q. all things considered, in a very well contested class3, after being anchored off the speed conseneted to run on very willing, but only at the one pace. It was his next race at Royal Ascot when contesting the Britannia stakes that he really showed what he is capable of, and if truth be known connections can consider themselves very unlucky not to have won. After being drawn in the middle of the track that day Jack Mitchell made his way over to the far side group, definitely costing himself more ground in making that manoeuvre than he was beaten by, but did seem to appreciate being ridden up with the pace responding well for pressure a long way out. He made his seasonal bow over Wolverhampton’s 9F last month, and after   giving his running looking in desperate need of the run, was eased at the rear of proceedings and spared a hard race. He now drops back to a mile, and runs off the same mark in which he ran that incredible race at Ascot, he has also been allocated a very good draw to break from to race handily, with Roger Teal booking the very much improved James Doyle to do the steering.

     Now onto Montaff who runs in the 15.15, where Mick Channon is another whom has been taken with the rise in stature of James Doyle, and has booked him accordingly for his very quirky inmate. He did do me a favour last year when winning a race at Ripon over tomorrow’s 2miles, and I’ve personally always thought that this trip was always going to suit. His last 2 assignments have consisted of giving weight to all in the November handicap over 12F, and Lto over the same distance ran in a fiercely contested event in Meydan. He also came to Kempton in April last season after running a reasonable race in Dubia, however that was over 11F and failed to cut any ice. 
     Tomorrow he goes back up to 2miles, and has a fairly good record over this trip, and last year his only 2 attempts at class 2 handicaps over this trip off marks of 97 & 102 resulted in a 1st and 2nd  and in-between also managed to only find one too good in a group 2.  Tomorrow he returns to class 2 handicap company over 2miles, and 98 looks a mark in which he should be able to get competitive, and has a handy starting position for James Doyle to get plenty of cover, before James Doyle can hopefully weave himself a passage on route to troubling the judge in some capacity.

Evening Robster, thought you might be going with Mcbirney again tmr, must have a very good chance at 8/1 in this race, distance looks just right and should be spot on after his pipeopener. 2pts EW imo.

As per usual when going thorough a particular race I started with the likely favourite It’s A Gimme, and although having thought his chance a relatively solid one at his single figured price of 6-1 on his handicap debut I just can’t get involved. Having picked my way through the rest of the field it’s noticeable that plenty of runners from The Martin Pipe race & Coral Cup at the festival are locking horns once again, and I’ve decided to go with one form each of those contest’s in the form of Like Minded & Saphir River.

          I will start with Like Minded who on jockey bookings appears to be the Nicholls second string, however the bigger yards are often multiply entered in these big handicaps, and more often than not the lesser fancied of the two run’s a much better race, endorsing the fact that these elitist type trainers are simply not bothered if they win with the 6-4 shot or the 33-1 rag, it’s only my view, but personally I’d have him about the same price as his stable companion if not shorter.
         As an 8yrold he’s far from exposed, having ran in one P2P and only 10 races under rules so far during his career, he could certainly be still open to further improvement. Lto in that Martin Pipe race I did think Ryan Mahon held on to him longer than needed, and only plugged on at the one pace a never nearer 8th, beaten 7 lengths. Imo he has most definitely got the pedigree to have no stamina concerns, and being by Kayf Tara out of a Phardante mare he may well be suited to a true run race on this flatter track.         
      Although there is plenty of conjecture regarding his chance, in reality he also has the form in the book to be competitive in tomorrows contest, especially with young Harry Derham now in the plate. As a result of the lads 7lb claim is now much better off with plenty he finished near to Lto, and could well be set to run a huge race having already looked much more at home on flatter tracks, and he did finish a close up 4th a few years ago in the bumper here.

     Now on to a one that simply intrigued me as an outsider, Michael Scudamore’s Saphir River. This horse appeared only moderate on the level in France, however looked a useful prospect indeed over hurdles, and finished 2nd in the grade1 Grand Prix D’Automne over 3miles in heavy at Auteuil last November, before changing hands for best part of £250K. Obviously having not gotten as far as the second on his British debut we’re still very much in the dark regards his ability on these shores, but it looks like Michael Scudamore has secured Paul Carberrys services for the very first time(unless I’m wrong) to get the best out of this very expensive purchase, an eye catching booking to say the least. He still has the potential to make up into anything in this sphere, and the 50-1 on offer is just too big not to have a small interest.

Having went through this conditional jockey’s event I simply can’t dissuade myself from having a punt on Nick Gifford’s Dee Ee Williams,  and although he doesn’t look set to progress significantly ability wise, what he already posses at the weights now he’s racing fit may well be sufficient.

      Although he was not exactly top class as a hurdler, he did compete at a reasonable standard as a juvenile, as well as punching above his weight in decent handicaps on numerous occasions. However I get the feeling that if Nick Gifford could turn back time this horse’s career would have been mapped out entirely different, and having persevered with his chasing career on a couple of occasions  did appear to leave it’s mark, having really struggled before eventually being off course for best part of 11months early last year.  He did make his reappearance from that absence at Taunton in February, where although a well beaten unconsidered 66-1 shot who’s hurdling lacked fluency, in his defence did seem to look in desperate need of the race, and not given too much of a hard time.
      Lto at Cheltenham in the Vincent O’Brien put up a vastly improved display, helping to set a serious gallop and jumping well before the Cheltenham hill took its toll, but not beaten far and certainly out running his odds of 50-1 by miles.  The 1st, 2nd, and 7th have all won since, and a couple of others have run sound races on the level. He has won his only start to date on course, ironically this contest in 2009 rated 139, and did struggle somewhat off his revised mark thereafter. Tomorrow he can run off 140, and Nick Gifford’s has booked the hugely improving Adam Wedge, who has been given some good opportunities during this current season,  stepping up to the plate on the vast majority of those occasions. I’m sure Dee Ee Williams will also  be more suited to Aintree’s 17F than Cheltenham, and having had a light campaign with fitness assured could have quite a few of these in trouble, if stepping forward from his previous run with ground looking ideal.
