Betfair should pay everybody 10% of there winnings on that race. This will be at least some compensation for the debacle. What I don't like is the secrecy surrounding about where the blame lies, with the customer or betfair or both. Honest punters take mistakes on the chin, why do Betfair side with its big customers, is it the commission. Either way I want compensating for my betting mistakes or compensating for somebody else making a mistake.

What alternatives have we got
take them to court
go to the other side (betda?)
stop betting
boycott a race on a daily basis

There share price is already tumbling, so more bad publicity isn't going to help that.

These big players manipulate the markets on daily basis, get reduced commission and fast pics.
About time they got there fingers burnt.

Nobody has lost a copper In Running,Tony.
The Sharks have failed to collect.
Unfortunately, the genuine In Runners who acted out of opinion rather that greed lost out on potential winnings or losses.

Hibore, the total liability is an irrelvance as is the 29 offered.
What would you have had accepted as reasonable? £100 at 29? £1000 at 29? £1m at 29?

Layers and backers make input errors on here every minute of the day.

Are you suggesting that if you are going to make a mistake, make sure you make a right horlicks of it as you will be bailed out by a dose of BAF (Betfair Avoidance Fever)

The Sharks have failed to collect

Only £800k of the £21m+ appeared to have been taken up by backers.

Some sharks. As the horse was yards from the line many lengths clear, over £20m remained unmatched at 29. Sharks should be ashamed of themselves.

..so racingstar....

would you also agree that those who lay fallers and collect before anyone else.....that those bets should also be voided.

How can the liability of £600M be irrelevant?
Even a chimp must have realised that there was a malfunction.

I bet £50 and £100 in play (before finish line) on VLV and stood to win over 4k. I was wathcing the on the site's own video and VDV was last or last but one when I noticed the money being offered @ 29's.

Waited till Ruby was pushing along into the home straight before lumping on. I have done nothing wrong.

I also laid Mourad before race started!

Been only betting consistantly with Betfair for a few week even though I've had an acc for a while. Really dissappointed that this has happened.

I took photo's on my phone of all bets being matched one my computer screen(with references shown clearly) and also have the apologetic emails from Betfair acknowledging my matched bets.

With the sum I technically should now have this would have helped me a lot.

I welcome any advise by PM/forum if we punters need to do anything to get these funds.

Cheers

Am I the only person who thinks it is BF's own bot which has gone haywire.  If it is then surely the company are in the brown stuff up to their chin.  Those saying it is impossible for backers to win in court are purely guessing.  I think some proper fun and games could follow.

And the in-runners are scared of the event taking place in paddyland? What is this, an Italian cockfight?

Pedro,
The race in question clashed wth a race at Leicester.
As such, there was a split screen on SIS.
Moreover, the Leicester race ended as there was three to jump in Ireland.
VLV could have lost a weight cloth or missed a hurdle for all that In Runners knew.
If the race was at Cheltenham there would have been far more backed.

Why any sane person would think otherwise remains a mystery.

Pedro,
Before I retire for the night perhaps you could explain as to who you would give "unlimited credit" to ?
None of the Big 4 would risk an unlimited liabilty on internet betting for obvious reasons.
BF,as a PLC have obligations to their shareholders to ensure that no such situation exists (other that in the fevered imagination of Pedro and his ilk).

My two penn'orth.

According to the screenshot at the RP site, the book was still overround at 102%
which implies that all backers and layers were betting at heavily skewed odds due to the
anomalous bet. Like everyone else here, I have lost money by clicking the wrong button
or typing the wrong amount. Quite often, my limit (i.e. no credit allowed) has saved me
from making more serious blunders. I can't see how BF can possibly get away with this
foul-up. They seem to be forgetting that they are NOT bookies and they are supposed to be
holding funds in escrow so that all parties can wager here in full expectation of being paid.

see the other thread, racingstar, Mark Davies says they do have credit accounts

Betfair have previously stated that they do not have a bot that trades in their own exchange markets.
They have not been forthcoming on the reasons for various crashes.
Their lack of communication on reasons for regular live video streaming is appalling

Tony Calvin openly admits that they are a "commercial organisation", hence why they will not cough up £21m to VDV backers. They have obviously done the risk assessment and worked out that the long term effect on share price / dividends will be less than £21m. Absolutely nothing to do with what is fair, right or just.

If you know anything at all about how "commercial organisations" operate, the truth is rarely communicated and rarely deemed to be in the interest of the organisation concerned to share.

betfair have admitted to having a bot in the marketplace also the punter in question was a modest one who defo hasnt got 23m in their account,it was a glitch so get over it,they wont pay out not in a million years,a lot of people always have this theory that betfair are up to no good but do you really think there gonna risk a huge business like this for the sake of one race,i dont think so and people wont go on **** because there is no money on there.

Never been given the benefit of the doubt by a bookie and been ripped off by plenty...but..

In court, Betfair can say they try to put measures in place to discourage excessive gambling, ie you've got limited liability (although clearly that system needs some serious work). If joe punter argues that anyone should be allowed to bet 21m AS LONG AS ITS THEIR OWN MISTAKE,then that argument encourages excessive gambling and loses, loses, loses.

Good luck though, sincerely.

slimboyfat22,

Well done on your lay of Mourad pre-race. However in response to your other bet on this race, I do not believe you are entitled to anything.

There are people out there who have lost hundreds, some even thousands, on this malfunction but all we hear from are the opportunists who took the 28/1.

I'd like to hear from somebody who has actually lost money on this market, due to say laying VLV pre-race and backing her I-R via an automated system. This is the type of person who has my sympathy. I think Betfair should refund them up to the amount they lost on the lay. The opportunists have already had their stake returned to them and rightly are back where they started.

People like Slimboy22 have lost nothing. And are entitled to nothing. But there are some who have been unfairly done out of money through Betfair's incompetence. These people should be paid whatever it is they lost. For what it's worth, they might argue "this is what I would won" but I don't think anybody is enititled to profit.

How could we arrive at a situation whereby everyone's account is updated so that any bet(s) pre-race, in-race and on other sites are completely ignored?

this only stands a chance if you pursue this in a group and not as individuals... i stand to win 12k and am happy to give out any details required... they have not given any technical proof as they had promised... i think there is every chance of a favourable resolution. this comes down to whether a court rules this was a tech faualt where they can hide behind their regulations or if it isnt.. and if its not they are on a sticky wicket...

If the amount you're owed by betfair is less than £5000 I'd just get if from them by going through small claims court.  You can do it online:

What Planet do you conspiracy theorists inhabit ?
BF have stated that the account in question had less than a £1000 in it.
Do you think that they woulkd risk all by telling lies here?
Why would they try to  protect any account ?
If the funds were in place the account holder would now be £23M  poorer (BF would gain on the PC and Commission).
Naturally, the BF Statement needs to withstand Independant verification by the Gambling Commission and witnessed by at least one of the specialist Racing Channels.
