LOL
Calling for a massive tax on one business to help another business. That would be UK "free" market policies bailing out businesses that are uncompetitive, via taxing people. Try reducing taxes instead so that people have more disposable income to spend on booze and ****. Base rate 0.5%, inflation 5% and people want more tax! |

People are FREE to decide whether they are self-righteous prats imo.

Well its claimed tht Cigarette taxes are hogh because of the cost to the NHS, im sure that Alcohol related health problems can tbe helped by cheap booze from supermarkets
And a fat tax would help pay for the cost of obesity |

i can understand why non smokers are mystified why others smoke but why does it bother you if others want to smoke, it's their funeral. this second hand smoke thing is nonsense these days, when were you anywhere that was full of cigarette smoke lately ?
it's a pretty damn dangerous thing to do in the long term but if smoking in a pub keeps out self rightious little t1ts like lazerous2 then i'm all for it. ffs let the people who pay the bills decide what legal activities they will allow on their premises and then the customers can decide too. |

EU countries urged to pass tougher anti-smoking laws.
The commission is calling for an EU-wide ban on smoking in public places by 2012. Currently all EU countries have regulations of some kind designed to protect people from second-hand smoke and its harmful effects. But the rules vary widely from country to country. The UK and Ireland have the strictest laws - a complete ban on smoking in indoor workplaces and public places, including public restaurants and bars. Bulgaria is due to follow suit in 2010. Greece, Italy, Malta, Sweden, Latvia, Finland, Slovenia, France and Holland have introduced smoke-free legislation that still allows special enclosed smoking rooms. The EU is now proposing that uniform laws be drafted for all 27 countries to regulate smoking more strictly in public areas and workplaces. |

Areas of Germany still flaunt the rules as well.
I think the phucking EU should try and sort out the more urgent matter of the Eurozone financial crisis rather than keep interfering in peoples lives |

in this instance, fully believe you should give the people what they want.A willing landlord and customers who want to smoke should not be proscribed against.
