What a disgusting habit, ive just signed a petition to have it banned at bus stops

Petition to ban BUS STOPS as well.....

.....people at bus stops not enough nous and energy to have their own transport and always look as miserable as sin.......do away with the bus stops and make them run and jump to catch the bus.......

will increase the flow of the traffic and also they may not be so miserable as they have something to think about......physically "catching" the bus.

same goes for the bus drivers as well....ban them also.

People who claim that the smoking ban in public places is responsible for the downturn in pubs seem to be like the bookies who claim BF is responsible for the downturn in raceourse attendances.  They ignore wall-to-wall TV coverage of horseracing as the main cause, just as the anti anti-smoking types ignore the incredibly cheap booze from supermarkets.

It`s strange. I was going to post that I would come to Ireland for the pleasure of smoking at a bus stop again. Then I remembered I haven`t had a cigarette for two weeks short of a year          Laugh

Amd FWIW I write as a smoker, albeit one is very happy to step outside to indulge -have done so at home and at others' houses for years before the ban came in.

I will quite willingly sign to keep the "choke yourself & others in proximity to death merchants" out of public premises.
If you want to kill yourself smoking fine go ahead but dont pollute others air.

anyone who smokes in 2011 really IS hoping for an early death. I've seen plenty of them in hospital beds wheezing their way to the coffin....amazing carry-on...

Couldn't we use somewhere like the Isle of Wight or Isle of Man for smokers to live on?

They could have their own health service and tax laws relating to cigarettes.

Just one rule, once they go there they cannot come back EVER.

An interesting plan. They are social exiles anyway, hardly much difference.

Christmas Island would be better...or maybe the Maldives.....

...these are low lying and will be inundated with the rising sea levels in the next few years.....

.....all you will see will be the smokers prodly displaying the glowing embers of the tips of their ciggies above their heads... as the waves gently lap over them....

like a kind of final salute.....

....i dont hink of myself as such zilzal....i believe each to their own in the main.......

problem with this is that it has been proven so definitively that smoking is linked to lung cancer ..heart disease...diabetes...etc....that it baffles me why people persist.....

....i guess if smokers could entirely keep the smoke to themselves then i could say..its your funeral...enjoy your ciggies.......but they cant.

why dont we just ban all food that contains any traces of fat/sugar. that would save a good few lives.

A lot of the proceeds of crime go into Gambling though.

Renge, its still legal, so give like minded people a place to go, it had been proved a long time ago, the original bill was fine in that where food was served then smoking was banned, added to the over zealous rule of proof of age in drinking then kids are going to go unsupervised and more likely to take drugs anyway

If you chart via the RPI stats the relative fall in price of off-trade booze relative to inflation, you'll see just how much this has fallen, not even relative to inflation, but in real terms, in the past 5 years or so.

Well they struck at the right time didnt they then?? Good marketing ploy and target smokers with cheaper booze, add on more people using social media and the pubs were never going to stand a chance, freds now used to sitting at home whilst having both a cig and cheaper booze.

Why would he want to go back, have friends around instead!!!

It appears that smoking also does serious damage to the brain cells if the illogical thoughts typed by some here is anything to go by.

I find it quite logical that like minded people would want to socialize togetherLaugh and find it quite strange that people unaffected would make it their business to interfere with thatPlain

After all you wouldnt Find Robert Mugabe and Peter Tatchell in the same place!!!

Renge , i agreed with the original bill, i dont actually agree with Kids in Pubs but i just dont go in those types of places. The Original Bill would have given the best of both worlds to people

Publicans also point too tougher drink driving laws and random breath tests as reasons for the decline in pub business.

It doesn't matter any commercial loss from the smoking ban is offset by the greater social benefit.
