they just don't make the jumpers any more no patience greg far too many flat breds instead of the good old fashioned chaser type given time !

i still to this day think we where perhaps prematurely robbed of the best chaser seen for many a year
in browns gazzete trainer stated if it wins a hurdle race i will be happy but this horse was bred for chasing and its the best i have ever had ! a strapping horse very tall, great horse , what an erra then we had browns gazzett see you then and dessie in one race think it was the xmas hurdle ? |

Anyone remember Welsh Oak? Was very significant for me - my first 20 pound bet 6/4. My first effort at trying be selective! Got there eventually but took a few years after that.

What a marvellous read...the odd 'bumpings' of this thread are much appreciated - I can't be alone in stating that.
It's now in my favourites  PS - I think it was 'Ged' asking earlier on who rode Wayward Lad on his debut...who was it squire? PPS - I remember the Josh Gifford horse who beat him as a hurdler...that was called Lumen. |

Sprowston Boy.....what memories. One of my most loved horses was Panto Prince and least loved was Desert Orchid (always too short for me to back) and the 89 Victor Chandler will always live in my memory. That bugger Dessie would just not be denied!

Going way back does anybody remember a grey chaser called Wingless ?
He showed improved form to win his last two races at the age of 9 and then disappeared.I think he was trained by ( George?) Vergette. |
