Wait see what non runners there are first, then either have a big stake ew lucky 15 on what you fancies, if your getting it rgt always the machine to ensure a profit, or have a lot of smaller luckys in perms?

3 50 windsor ones also, before the normal bores come, on irish are lucky and lambeth wa nk, scoopy asked me a question and ive answered it.

That scoopy is what id do, but we are all big boys on here (well most of us anyway) so do as you see fit and good luck with your selections

Yum yum rats have been fed. did you have some scoopy.

birch2 ,
i'm just making an honest assessment.
you make of it what you will but of those who backed dont push it out of nearly 80,000 who were there NONE will have taken 10/1 or 11/1 or 12/1 except high street reps.

johnny wilkinson,
we take more on the national BEFORE 1.00 pm than we take after 1.00 pm.
why do yo think we price up at 10.30 am

from the bests i saw at chepstow on the national the winner should have returned 3/1

I'm not doubting you - in fact I think this scenario occurs most days -

Diffrence is tho we are all big boys and understand the rules, on course boys are total diff from there robbing counterparts on the high street.

This lot who pretend to be your local friendly bookie but done everything they could to rob the once a year punters.

Can SOMEONE!! please tell me how it returned 10/1 because if adage is right which i should def think he is and the lowest it went was 14/1

Where the fu ck did 10s come from?

"Chaos in the ring"

"Its all explained there how the poor bookies didnt have time to lengthen anything"
----------------------
Only a few minutes before the OFF - Wiltshire and Parrott ended one of their pieces on BBC by Parrott saying something like ..."People must have got all their bets on already - Grand National day, just look at this."

With that - the camera panned to the bookies - and there was [b]nobody[/b[ queueing up to bet, and plenty of space around the pitches.

Where does this idea that a certain percentage per runner is acceptable? Why should it be the case that the larger the field, the larger the overround?
The SP should be regulated by an independant body and there should be maximum values set which overrounds cannot go over.

Bookmakers on the course should all have electronic boards and display the overround live. There should be a set limit over which they can't go beyond. The software should flash all prices & make the board unusable if the prices mean the overround goes over the set limit.

The scandalous forecast formulas for Greyhound racing should be looked at as well. The chart forecasts give a higher forecast margin for bookmakers the higher the overrround!

Lads customers were apparently steered towards the mark sense slips, where I am told there is no option to take a price. Fee free to correct me if I'm wrong on the latter point.

You are wrong.
By:

When: 12 Apr 10 18:31
Stow that is ridiculous suggestion- Bookmakers can post any price they want - the punter has the choice - either they bet or they dont.
You obviously were not about when on course bookmakers posted their prices on course and normally went up at least 150+% the punters make the market not the bookmakers. Plus markets change for all kinds of reasons.
You should check out some of the mark ups at limerick or down royal in a bumper. The whole topic while interesting - is about supply and demand. If there were 200 bookmakers and 199 punters they would return 105%.
The facts are there were 200 bookmakers and 40,000 punters.

stow judge - we'll do that the very next day after the supermarkets display their mark ups in the stores on their labels OK? And the racecourse bars and caterers.

Stupid idea imo & the OFT wouldn't allow it anyway.

stow_judge, get on the phone to BP and moan to them about having a good day- every day, every year. so what if bookies make a bit extra on this race? not that they actually did, because the winner was extremely popular. i'm sick of the stupid rants on here about bookies making profits. what on earth do you think we turn up - driving miles, often in the**ing rain for?? you don't work for nothing and i make no excuses for running a business for profit
By:

I don't think that is at all acceptable. Punters deserve a much better deal. How many people are turned away from our sport by blatant rip off prices? I'd sooner have a low deduction on course tote monopoly personally.

I'm not suggesting that bookmakers should not make profits, I'd just like to see some reasonable maximum overrounds set to protect the unsuspecting novice punters.

reasonable maximum overrounds

Ring the OFT with that one, they'll love it. Think its April 1st again. Ffs we cant even get them to agree to impose standard EW terms.

The overround is a theoretical GROSS profit margin. Unlike the freeloaders on here we have massive expenses to pay, towards the funding of racing.

stow-judge;bookmakers displaying overounds, what a superb idea.instead of a lot of course bookies betting almost overbroke, why not have the computer stop working if they bet to less than 1% per runner.happy days would be back again.JUDGE YOU HAVENT A CLUE.
