155 i think. There should be an official investigation into this. Profiteering.

Wait see what non runners there are first, then either have a big stake ew lucky 15 on what you fancies, if your getting it rgt always the machine to ensure a profit, or have a lot of smaller luckys in perms?

3 50 windsor ones also, before the normal bores come, on irish are lucky and lambeth wa nk, scoopy asked me a question and ive answered it.

That scoopy is what id do, but we are all big boys on here (well most of us anyway) so do as you see fit and good luck with your selections.

The majority of on-course bookmakers are computerised and connected to the rdt network. Surely the SP can be calculated from all the bookies on the network, using a weighted average to take more notice of the major layers if you like. Would be less open to abuse & 155% would NOT get returned as SP. We were 140% or less all day long including last show. The winner is still 14/1 in my computer now ffs.

The high street firms have a choice on grand national day.....

1.Use it as a shop window to try and encourage new people into racing.

2.Stich em up because they dont know what they are doing.

Fair enough, but I know for a fact two of our local shops layed a £5000 to £200 the winner on friday!

starfish - not what i mean. RP tablew shows that not a single runner was lengthened from its best morning price but that 33 of the runner were shortened. This is not bookmaking. It should be officially investigated.

Didn't follow anything at all on the day so forgive me.
I know BBC dont usually give the SP during races like Channel 4 do, but surely the SPs could normally be returned while they're still on the first circuit regardless of the outcome. Anyone know if this was this not done?
(got you better now bb)

Whether this is an inaccurate reflection of the market or a true relection of a poor market, 155% is a disgusting figure.

bettysboy ,

I worked in a shop on saturday, and what was very curious was that there was no market movement until an hour before the off !

Wiltshire = a total letdown on this - almost as if hes in the bookies pocket. Again bookies shafting the public, because theres no law in place to stop them

GC - start earning your keep with your 'major' objective - open and fair, or maybe we might start seeing overrounds getting towards 200%

Or is the GC there just to obliterate the independents? Now who would that serve best?

Makes you wonder

National market is often a poor value market for punters and most regular punters know this.
But it is the very popularity of the race which offers the opportunity for profiteering - and this opportunity was greedily taken advantage of.

Why would a course bookmaker - who stands all year in the lashing rain taking small pickings want to suddenly become a charity on G N day?
The cash punters in the ring at Aintree were 90% once a year punters- The bookmakers were mobbed for an hour taking 5s nd 10s eway. The punters were like supermarketr shoppers going to the shortest line.
Why would the bookmakers want to do anything other than shorten horses.
Everyone and his dog knows that the grand national SP is always well over round -
Why all the fuss - The once a year revellers only went there to drink and show off their new socks - they dont care if their tenner e/w was devalued by 50% And experienced punters always take an early price

All those course bookmakers would have looked at the book 2 mins b4 the off and if they had any losing liability - they would have layed them back on here - most made a nice few quid - good luck to them

some of you should try making a book on national day,it is chaos, the public have a mindset to back certain horses and thats it,they will take any price and conversly ignore other horses whatever price you may wish to lengthen them to,days like grand national day afe few and far btween when you dont have to follow what is going on on here as much, many of those who are saying they were still 14/1 would no doubt have used here to hedge off, those who didnt shortened the horse further, big deal,a few keyboard warriors arent happy,oh dear.

Wiltshire does his macririck act - thats all- the lad is trying to make a living on tv - and probably is earning more money than he did when he used to stand at Tweasledown point to point and bet to 180%.

At a gaff track during a slow week day - you will still see punters taking a price on a horse - which is priced higher on the boards either side of the bookmaker they're betting with ! A lot of punters are clueless - bless 'em. Now, multiply this factor by 000's - and you have GN day. To Diddles point, punters are betting their money - totally oblivious as to whether the price they're being given is higher, lower, correct or otherwise.

i put a thread up on this topic on saturday night .

PLEASE will you all complain to the gambling commission

YOU'RE COMPLAINT WILL BE BACKED BY 99% OF RACECOURSE BOOKMAKERS BECAUSE WE ARE THE ONE'S BEING GIVEN A BAD NAME

MY BOOK....dont push it..opened 20/ at 10.30 a.m...remained at 20/1 until 3.45 p.m.when lowered to 16/1...again lowered to 14/1 just three minutes before the off. I TOOK TWO SMALL BETS AT 14/1 and that was my, and it seems 95% of books price at the off.

That's a very sound argument argument ribero save for the fact that with 33 runners shortening there was very little chance to test your theory that you couldn't lay them at bigger!

He has indeed halcyon, But I tip my hat to someone who can argue that the reason he can't lengthen a price is because he is certain the 'public' won't take it any way!! Charlie Whelan eat your heart out.

Ultimately, if all the G N money came on here on Saturday just think of the furore of established Betfarians moaning like p huck about once a year punters! (slowness of the site, crashing, not being able to trade, arb...)

what you people on betfair don't grasp is why we start betting in the morning on course.
it is a fact that most course punters on grand national day place their national bets before 1.00 p.m.

as regards price fluctuations i've checked and i shortened only seven [ including the winner ] and lengthened four [ including the third and fourth ]

Why all the fuss about this one race?

FFS if you don't realise the SP's have been rigged since Lord Donaghoe, once in the pay of Paddy Power, and his chums altered the system so that only shorter priced horses from EW boards were recorded, then you haven't been paying much attention.
