Pride Of Arras is two from two and there is obviously potential for more, but as a piece of form I think this year's Dante is one of the worst runnings I've ever seen.
By:
I think the Prix La Force form has worked out well with Caulificar and Azimpur running well again a proven Group 1 performer.
I’d said that New Ground was my bomb for the Jockey club and now he’s out to 50/1 that’s about the right price and prefer him over Midak. He two runs this year struck me as learning curves, first time he led and next time out was held up well in the rear and pulled for his head hard, but finished off strongly. Think he has gears. The like new Juddmonte racing manager and in choosing to supp him he seems forwards thinking and I’ll take the hint. |
By:
4 races two wins two places, won on heavy and good to soft
.At the ratings Tennessee is still over priced and won in a bog at Saint Cloud. Don’t like the Dante form and think the bookies have a load of eggs in the short price basket through that. |
By:
I’d kick myself if not having a few £ ew, even though I’ve said that this years French 3 year olds seem duff.
By:
I don't know why any of you are considering the Dante form. The winner bolted up and is the only one to take out of the race. Sometimes what you see beats thumbing through the form book!
By:
The trouble with the form is that Pride of Arras was given a better ride than Damaysus, given a better ride that day, not much between them.
It’s a bit of a guess who’ll see out the extra two furlongs and track in a race run at a true gallop, provided we get that this time!! |
By:
Just wondering Driver what price would he have to be to tempt you? You seem strong on him and Rossa is sweet on him.
By:
I'd like to see Ruling Court wins. Then he'll go for the Triple Crown. Hopefully he wins that too since Nijinsky in 1970. Otherwise another much of a muchness year for 3 yr olds.
By:
Watched the second race that Midak had, can see why they are coming here, he cornered badly going right handed at Chantilly.
He also jumped a strip that runs across the track, very fleet footed!! - I’ll wait to see if he tries to leap the one at Epsom in the same manner!! |

It's less than 4 days yet AOB is not certain about which horse Moore will ride. If anything he's less sure Moore will ride Delacroix than previous.
By:
Hope he picks TLIW, enabling a better price for Delacroix, but really can't see it.
By:
it just shows obrien is a guesser, doesnt really have a clue about his best horses , oh no hes not a cecil far from it , not even a hern, ha rwood, stoute tbh, he is a great trainer of quantity winners but its throwing darts , shame really
By:
i think he knows full well which is his best. i expect moore will ride the lion and quite likely it'll do an auguste rodin/city of troy and trot-up after a seasonal debut flop
By:
On last year's form I had TLIW just about fast enough to win a moderate Derby. I don't have him as fast as Auguste Rodin or City Of Troy.
When Delacroix won the Ballysax, for me, he was just doing what his Futurity second entitled him to do, and I have him running to the very same mark. The kind of figure that might seem him possibly get a place in a normal Derby. At the time I thought he was probably going to be just another 2yo that didn't make any real improvement at 3. However, I was pretty impressed when he then won Derby Trial. That day I have him improving 3lbs, and in the manner that I would expect him to be capable of another 3 or 4lbs on top of that when fully tested in a truer run race. Even if TLIW makes a return to form I reckon Delacroix would probably beat him. |
By:
As to whether Delacroix will stay. Well it's always true that you never know for sure until they do, but with all the racecourse evidence so far I will be amazed if he doesn't.
By:
Delashay, to answer your question, I wouldn't have a bet until we're sure of the going, i e not before Saturday. If the ground is good, I believe the market's got it about right and anything better that 5s would tempt me. I'm looking forward to a cracking race between Pride of Arras, Ruling Court and Delacroix (who I believe Ryan will ride)
By:
I have backed Pride Of Arras for reasons I gave a couple of weeks ago.
I especially like the fact he won first time out when the Becket yard was quiet. They seem to be coming to the boil now. Delacroix is the obvious danger, and has won his two trials impressively. Ruling Court looks a bit speedy to me, and I have doubts about him staying the 12f. The Lion In Winter can not be backed on his come back run. Of course comparisons will be made to Ballydoyles last two winners, and we know how much their horses improve from debut. But neither Auguste Rodin or City Of Troy had set backs as a 2 year old, and they both made their seasonal debut in the Guineas. Giving them an extra couple of weeks before the Derby. |
By:
Thanks Driver and understand waiting to know the ground with the concerns that you’ve mentioned.
Agree some are looking way back through the Dante looking for something else. It has to be a negative for Nightwalker Chapmans “eye catcher” that Juddmonte has supped one. Tuscan hills found as much as the Lion when asked - Zilch! Egan said straight after he’d get a mile and half too slow for 10f. |
By:
Regarding the form book I think that it’s a bonus to have races run since so we can see the form lines.
Delacroix has a few horses linked to him through form. Are they all genuinely Group 1 standard? |

Derby (Gr. I - England). Henri-François Devin: “We have no doubt about the class of New Ground”
You chose the Epsom Derby over the Jockey Club Award for New Ground. Can you explain how the decision was made? Henri François Devin: Both races were possible, but the entourage of New Ground preferred to present him in the Epsom Derby knowing that Juddmonte was already represented in the Prix du Jockey-Club with Detain (3rd), who had a good chance. The interest of this commitment is to run it on the 2,400 meters. This is the reason why you skipped the Prix du Jockey-Club. What analysis do you make about the result of the French Derby knowing that your foal has competed with protagonists like Cualificar (2nd) and Azimpour (5th)? The winner of the “Jockey-Club”, Camille Pissarro, was happily extended in distance. However, it is also important to have enough speed to be well placed at the start, also counting on a favorable rope number. On Sunday, the top four were in the lead group and only the fifth was able to come back from behind. Anyway, the first three had the best chance, so there were no surprises. Although Cualificar and Azimpour had a good run in the Derby, two horses ahead of New Ground at ParisLongchamp, we were convinced of the quality of our foal, whatever the result. What are the main qualities of New Ground and how was its preparation? You have to have both speed and stamina to hope to win the Epsom Derby. New Ground has the ability to keep up with any pace and is tenacious in effort, being sufficiently hardened. He finally has a good balance. These are qualities that will help him in his task. We have no doubt about his intrinsic class, but only the race will confirm his performance. This is also the case for the winner of the 2,000 Guineas (Ruling Court), or Delacroix, from Dubawi (a group I winner on the mile, 3rd in the 2005 Epsom Derby), and Tepin, a mare who showed speed. I am satisfied with his latest work. Last Tuesday (May 27), he worked rope to the right, then made a rope canter left on Saturday (31). He is in good shape. I am satisfied with his physical and mental condition. Above all, I present a horse that is ready to behave well and to whom I believe in obtaining a good result. New Ground will be ridden by Alexis Pouchin, a jockey with whom he won twice in as many trips at 2 years old. The foal will leave Chantilly on the day before the race, on Friday, and return on Sunday. New Ground is a product of Juddmonte breeding. Her father, New Bay, won the Prix du Jockey-Club and her mother, Gaining, a group III under your training... In fact, he is like his mother (Gr. III – Prix Fille de l'Air in Toulouse), easy to train. He quickly showed means and won by the way starting in Saint-Cloud, on 2,000 meters ;) Your statistics are quite remarkable: 72% success in the top 5 in 2025. Force is to see that you engage wisely, in France and abroad... I always try to find the best positions, in a category that suits them and if the opportunity to run abroad is presented, I do not hesitate to go. The goal is to pull the stable up and improve our way of doing things. We do our best with a team of about 60 horses in training. It is not easy to be able to perform at the level of groups, but we do well in listed races. I am also lucky enough to train good horses. However, I have been lucky to be surrounded by a very good team for several years, and especially Attilio Giorgi. This is a reason for satisfaction. And above all the key to our success. Since I moved to Chantilly in 2013, the number of owners has changed little. On the other hand, they are faithful and my goal is to satisfy them, by valuing their horses. |

Auguste Rodin or City Of Troy had set backs as a 2 year old, and they both made their seasonal debut in the Guineas. Giving them an extra couple of weeks before the Derby.
i'd say 2 weeks or 4 weeks makes little difference - it's having the run that is the crucial factor. we saw the improvement in lake victoria for having had a run. on another point i do think it's very poor that a trainer of such standing is unable to tell the public which of his horses are running and who will ride when it's only 3 or 4 days before the race |
By:
It’s pathetic of O’Biden to play that game and I hope that they don’t get the same luck with the draw as they did at Chantilly with the pace maker being drawn within stalking distance.

They still watered selectively yesterday , even though it rained as well . Much will depend on how the showers track on Thursday in particular .It will be windy throughout .

Maybe jockey declarations should be made along with the 4 day decs, with only valid changes allowed. This would surely give the punter a fairer chance

Any betting on the rides for Moore in The Oaks and Derby? I think he'd surprise with at least one of them eg TLIW and Giselle. 10am decs, correct?
Any jockey switcheroo post today's decs? I hope not maybe in the event of a more fancied non-runner from the same stable (not owner). |

Or those who wait to see what Ryan rides ‘zzz more time to get on, but then the Lads can’t play the yo-yo game with flip flopping favs!

Ryan takes into account the draw and can leave it until as late as as 1pm today

How much rain & watering Paul?
By:
Delashay its on Turftrax 5mm on home st and selected areas of back straight and 3.4mm of rain Tues as well . Met Office tracker for Wed-Sat shows chunky showers but will be hit and miss.I know going stick is a minefield but it has gone from 6.0 to 6.9 Friday last till today , so thats probably why .

By:
Thanks Paul, I like that chunky showers! Bring ‘em on!

Is the Derby now 72hrs declarations? (instead of the usual 48hrs), hence the reason why the Derby Anti post market is now closed.

I think if TLIW had no chance of securing the service of Moore eg TLIW was not making the necessary improvement AOB would have alluded to that before now. However, if TLIW was improving by the day or had even the slightest chance of reaching his 2 yr old peak form then Moore would only make a decision by 1pm today.
As yet, no firm decision by the jockey could only indicate TLIW is in pole position, in my opinion. |
By:
Said yesterday:
When asked if he expected Moore to plump for Delacroix, O'Brien said: "I think so. It’s very hard to know and Ryan doesn’t have to make up his mind until 1pm tomorrow, and then it’ll be Wayne Lordan and Colin Keane." |
By:
So don’t expect any news from 10:30! About who he rides, still time for them to play fun and games!

AOB has 4 runners and only 3 jockeys nominated. Shoemark has not got a ride; Damysus will be ridden by Doyle. Could AOB oblige?

He only has 3 impossible and Doyle is retained by the owners of Damysus
