High Definition entered @Lingfield.

yep lets hope for a decent performance . if he is the real deal having missed the big prices i have been chucking scores and tenners every few days on high deffi for the ark at 33s and 25s for the arc each way ,if this is a superstar and hoses up at ling then he shortens right up for epsom and if doing the bizz in the derby no way on earth will 25s be available for the arc which should be the target if those scenarios play out .

Mac Swiney entered in the Derrinstown on Sunday but not in the Dante. Not much left pre the Derby if he is heading to Epsom.Hoping for a big run.

High Definition (10/11) is giving 5lbs to the rest including Adayar (7/2) shortest price of Appleby's trio. Will he show up? If so, O'Brien is super confident of his chance of victory.
|
|
By:
will he need the race like a fair few others from this yard ?,hope he pisshes up to be honest we need a new superstar and this fella could be it!

stop talking rubbish |

I'll believe High Def runs at Lingfield when I see it.

Blood not right.

High Definition has been scratched from the Lingfield Derby Trial this saturday. His blood count is wrong (similar to Pretty Gorgeous). It's roughly a month to the big day. Will he make the gig next month?

hmmn high defi some doubts not ideal and my other picks could go elsewhere ,time to cover a few bases and mac swinney the futurity winner appeals , kevin manning who rides both in work was asked by jim bolger pre guineas who would you ride in the guineas of the 2 ?, kev said i dont know so couldnt split them and says there is nothing between mac swinney and poetic flare and thinks both are very smart obviously so not hard to think they see mac swinney as more of a derby type and 12/1 looks fair to me mac swinney due out in 1 of the derby trials soon . 12/1 looks very fair considering there is nothing between the 2 at home according to connections the derby distance should be no problem in fact it should suit mac swinney .good luck all.

While we are watching everyone's bubble being burst in the trials, believe it or not there is actually a group 1 winning 2yo completely flying under the radar and is currently 40/1 with bet 356. GEAR UP won the Criterium de Saint-Cloud in late October beating a group 1 winner and had Bolshoi Ballet back in 5th. Mark Johnston after the race said it would be Dante then Derby and as far as I know he is still on track. Obviously he will be a lot shorter for the Derby if he wins at York where he has won twice before. You could pick holes in his form but the bottom line is he is group 1 winning 2yo with no stamina doubts and is a huge price, so worth a little interest IMO.

^Does look a daft price compared to some of the others.

surely the derby winner comes from todays race in ireland

This Derrinstown race should be informative.
I'd expect to see a better run from Fernando Vichi today. Definitely a stayer and was keeping on nicely in the Ballysax- not saying he's a Derby winner but he could be placed today and again at Epsom or the Curragh race. Aside from that I like Taipan and think he might reverse form with Bolshoi B this afternoon. Macswiney represents the One Ruler form and I'm not sure about that and the 7f/miling form so looking elsewhere at the minute. Southern Lights another interesting one for Joseph, similar to Third Realm yesterday as one who could step up and put his stamp on the Derby reckoning. That's my tuppence anyway, GL all. |

mcswinney should relish the derby trip
|
|
By:
If Mac Swiney does win today, what price will he be for the Derby? 9/4, 5/2?
|
|
By:
well thats done and dusted then
|
|
By:
odds on by this time next week
|
|
By:
seriously what can beat that
|
|
By:
typical betfair, dont have him in the arc market
|
|
By:
What did Bolshoi Ballet beat? The 2nd was a non-entity; Mac Swiney did not run his race for whatever reason. The rest can easily be forgotten. Bolshoi Ballet 2/1 for Epsom? A big joke.

Just wundering with that speed whether hes just a 10 furlong hoss?

I’m still topping up EW on Van Gogh .

If there's a better Derby candidate out there than BB, we've got a lot to look forward to this week. Uncomplicated, travels, now has the fastest speed figure in my book (by at least 4-5 pounds), and pedigree strongly suggests stamina will not be an issue. For me, he outclasses everything we've seen so far. I doubt the Dante will throw up anything to challenge that, but let's wait and see.

Could hope for a heavy ground Derbi and Mark Johnston
hits the bulls eye ![]() |

Bolshoi Ballet has beaten nothing. But, Mr Cook a former Guardian (proper journo there) now with the Racing Post (a mouthpiece for bookies) is waxing lyrical about his Derrinstown performance (allegedly) - I cannot read his piece (members only). Has his professional journalistic acumen been "compromised" since the switch?
Bolshoi Ballet at 2/1 is madness given the "quality" he's beaten today. |
|
By:
It's the way he went about his business, and most significantly for me, the time. I agree in principle though - if he is put under pressure by a colt of reasonably equal ability, we will find out whether he's the real deal on the day. However, that depends on whether there is a colt of equal ability, and so far we haven't seen one - imo. He certainly did a lot more than Mohaafeth, for example, who has yet to record a time within 20 lbs of this fella.

The Mediterranean the winner of the closing maiden today looked like a Derby horse to me. Stayed on strongly despite looking a little green and unfit
Will be interesting if O'Brien chucks him into the Derby after just two runs? |
|
By:
if aiden goes mob handed he wont be the real deal, if he doesnt then pile into him
|
|
By:
I am with impossible123 on this.In the Derrinstown Bolshoi Ballet beat three average horses he previously beat in the Ballysax, a pacemaker who dropped out, Mac Swiney who has no pace and needs heavy, and a maiden winner. It was a Group 3 in name only, more like a Group 5, which is what many of the Group 3 races are. More Group races does not mean better horses. It has become a way to advertise horses on sales catalogue pages. |
|
By:
I was just pleased to be able to top up Third Realm stakes at better prices , at least I know that if it rains it wont be an issue .
|
|
By:
agree there kincsmen, group races now are a joke even the group1s
|
|
By:
Agreed with impossible. Bookies et al - we are all at a loss about this year's event.

High Definition goes to York.

I like Hurricane Lane, but there are obvious negatives, most notably Buick/Appleby. Appleby 16 losers in a row and ten beaten favourites, and although Buick did ride three winners recently it followed a run of over 30 losers in a row. Basically, you couldn't trust either of them. Not sure you can trust Buick at the best of times.
The other potential negative could be that Hurricane Lane will eventually stay beyond a mile and a half. That's what the pedigree would suggest. He did well to win over ten furlongs on seasonal debut and the runner up Maximal ran a solid race at Chester on ground that was probably softer than ideal. Hurricane Lane could place in the Dante and improve significantly on that in the Derby. The obvious tactic would be to make plenty of use of his stamina, but that is not going to be easy from the widest draw. Chances are he might well get beat at York and get pushed out. Assuming he hasn't bombed completely he might then be worth an each-way nibble. I don't see Godolphin having anything else. The horse that was runner up in the Lingfield Trial looks a slow boat. |

Does anybody know if the Derby/Oaks has another early cut-off stage or does it just go straight to 5 day decs now?
Thanks! |
