Great day, got out of jail with R10 winner at a decent price. Will have to watch the replays as I overindulged on the free flow, 11am start with a 2am finish!

Some things never change HK!
![]() Home turf is a big advantage and it showed again. Hong Kong horses were fresher than the other international runners, which have been on the go for while. Deidre was aimed at the HK Cup all season and she ran a cracker... light campaign and not an after thought. Saying that the Japanese girls put up a good show, three 2nds. I've always underestimated Beauty Generation and he proved once again what a brute of a miler he is... he went into full beast mode yesterday. |

All good Accie
Beauty Generation vs Winx - who would you have ? BG for me every time |
By:
Roz - there is a formline from the past when BG was in Oz that suggests he wouldn’t get close to her. But he’s improved since then, it would be interesting. I wonder if JM wants to close out some unfinished business with the Queen Anne, I think BG would travel better than AF did as he’s a much more relaxed horse. Suppose Dubai first, then champions Mile End of April and hopefully a crack at Europe.

Accie, i see your boy is entered on Saturday ? hot race.
By:
He's running at Haydock tomorrow, apparently he's good and should run well, fingers crossed he jumps ok, if he does that he'll go close but he's got top weight and the ground will be very soft I imagine.
By:
Good luck Accie - hope he comes home safely.

Awesome round of jumping HK... travelled powerfully through that ground. He loves this time of the year... 20-1!
![]() ![]() Happy Christmas. |
By:
That was superb HK, congratulations
By:
My tv channel froze 100 yards from the line!! He's not a bad jumper....very pleased.
By:
I bet you are!
![]() He looked the winner a long way out HK, his jumping was spot on. Exciting times. |
By:
Congrats HK , Merry Christmas
![]() Merry Christmas Dinos |

Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year Roz!

Merry Christmas all...will post updates as and when, he’ll be up to 144 now I would think so up in class. He’s only had a few races so we expect more improvement. He should be even better on good ground too. He’s back on track and we can dream!
By:
Happy New Year - Wetherby Saturday hopefully. There is one entry that makes it very interesting!
By:
Chaps - I really like the chances of Northern Superstar tonight at HV, I can see he’s 6-1 currently with Uk bookies. Don’t usually post on the weekly races but I think this is an absolute standout ew bet. He’s getting 19lb from TW, which is crazy considering the run in the HK cup, especially as TW is fav.
By:
Ive not even come close to a winner in HK over the Christmas/New Year period - hoping my luck will change soon . I've pencilled in a couple of horses that i hope will be out again after before the season is out at big prices.
I see your selection didn't break well Accie - seems you are having the same luck as me ....no luck. Any of these ex euro horses that you are keeping an eye on ? Oh nooo, not him again - lets hope he crushes him and puts him in his place proper - will he be getting a stone from KR this time ? |
By:
Yes Roz - that one last night wiped out my profit for the season so far! That and Wishful Thinker from Sunday too which was really unlucky.
I think we are giving a stone but this is left handed now and Hughes will be a positive. Will be interesting if Gino Trail runs as he was 2nd in the Grand Annual last year so would be a good guide to see how we stand with regards to future races. Think there’ll be only 7 runners and doubt we’ll see any 20-1 this time. Just hope it doesn’t dry up too much for him. |

Thanks Roz - replied to you.
5 runner field tomorrow, definitely no 20-1!! |

Happy New Year all... it's been manic back at work and haven't had chance to catch up with what has been going on with the horses!
Looking forward to see how Riko gets on tomorrow, hopefully the ground will not be too lively for him. Going up 8lbs was fair enough for his easy win at Haydock. All the best HK. Cheers for the info Roz. |
By:
We do think he’ll be better with good ground as long as it’s not fast or hard like Doncaster turned out to be. There aren’t that many races open to him really - trying to keep him LH after Hereford. Today will be another big test for him, so far we can’t really fault him so I’m more interested to see how he does. On the book he’s got a few lbs to find with the top one and Beau Bay but I do believe he will.
I’m very excited about what could be next though! |
By:
I'm not one for backing horses at short prices but I think Riko will do it again today... I've backed him again as well.
By:
I had my reservations about the ground before the race and it didn't look like he was enjoying it that much... jumping to his right a bit as well. We could do with some rain!
By:
Looked to me like he wasn’t enjoying the ground at all. I thought he wasn’t going to win after the first 2 fences, think he did well to stay in touch, no disgrace losing to a well handicapped horse.
By:
No worries Dinos - just think he could be one to keep an eye on next week.
Im not one for backing short prices either - feel guilty as i backed the winner Beau Bay at 4s last night.... but i was shouting on Riko - i just thought he was getting too much weight from them. |
By:
Absolutely Roz, best handicapped horse if you consider the race we had before. To be honest I’m quite happy he finished that close to him on ground that was probably a touch too fast for him. He’s only had 7 races over fences, one of those was a pulled up after a fence and he’s gone up 30lbs in that time so we’re all still learning. He’ll win more races I’m certain.
By:
I think that race confirmed to me that Riko is a Soft ground horse, he's got a round action and he looked awkward today. He hasn't done a lot wrong over fences and there is surely more to come when he gets softer conditions. The winner had every right to win at the weights but there were doubts about him performing on quicker ground as well.
What's on the radar for Riko HK... Cheltenham Festival, if it's Soft? ![]() |
By:
Nothing concrete Mr D, give him a break to freshen him up and step up in distance. He’ll get some entries for the good handicaps as he’s probably still well handicapped for where it’s softer ground. He may well prove to be good over further on good ground. The silver lining for me is that he’ll stay at 145 which I think he’ll definitely win again off.
By:
Roz - 16-1 early show, seems some others may have the same view as you, drawn 1 too
By:
I'm so disappointed with the price - was hoping for 25/1 at least - im sure the UK books will open up at a ridiculous price like 12/1 tomorrow afternoon ......as they always do with HK racing- they look at the HK Tote and slash it by a third.
![]() |
By:
I can see where you are coming from with his 2yr old form Roz but he hasn't shown enough in Hong Kong for me to get involved... probably bolt up now! Good luck if you have a bet.
By:
Im not really confident , impossible to be so - just hope that this draw and reduced weight allows him to be more competitive.
i have a 10/1 winner from yesterday rolling on ...so have more on than i would normally - ![]() |
By:
Roz - fantastic and paid $36. The inside draw did allow him to sit closer and the finish he showed last up came through. That was more like the trials he had as suspected!
By:
Cheers Accie - I'm elated
![]() - had some 50/1 with b365 too .....and think my double is being settled at 33/1 with a 14/1 winner from yesterday with one of the books- so one of my good days . Just had the feeling that a horse like this doesn't lose its class over a few runs at Sha Tin. |
By:
Awesome Roz... it's great when a plan comes together. Even better when you get a big double figure price.
![]() His 2yr old form was very good... odd it took this long to get going in Hong Kong! I knew I would regret not following you. That's the way it's going for me at the moment. |

2 G1 races Sunday, mini reruns of HKIR.
Think DB Pin could be the value in the sprint race and an interesting runner in the mile vs BG is Conte who is taking a big step up but he looks the part. Another beast of a horse but I doubt he can outbeast the beast. Got some derby hopefuls out too but they need to show something not seen so far to replace Dark Dream as my current selection. It’s a shame we don’t have antepost as I had him marked down as my derby winner after his HK debut run on HKIR day. |
By:
Note - Derby longshot for me currently is Waikuku think he’s around 25-1 in the Uk
