I imagine you have been to several of these HKIR meetings, Accie ?
|
|
By:
Not missed one since 2008 which was the year I moved here. I was reminiscing with a mate over a few beers the other night about the top 3 performances we’d seen.
The consensus was Lord Kanaloa, Snow Fairy and Able Friend. |
|
By:
I've never been , i was hoping to come this year but plans changed. I will be there next year for sure.
I imagine Pollydream will now run in the Mile after this debacle at Churchill this weekend - it will be much tougher though imo .... with competing against the likes of Cruz, Size, and Moore in the Mile. |

Can't see anything beating BG in the mile looking at the entries, the one that was interesting me was Expert Eye but I imagine that won't happen now.
The next race at Sha Tin (Sa Sa Ladies Purse) is going to be interesting, indicator for 5 weeks time - Glorious Forever looked very good in his last race. I would highly recommend it, I've been to lots of the festivals in the UK when I lived there but as a value for money day you can't beat ST or HV (you can get in for HKD 10). If you want to push the boat out you can have a day in one of the restaurants all food and drink for the equivalent of GBP 80. |

Prince Of Arran runs in the HK Vase - Aussie Jock Walker reports he has been booked for the ride

Off topic, our horse has his first run of the season tomorrow in the 2.40 at Aintree. He’s done well over the summer and will be good to see where we stand. We believe his better than 137.

Good luck Accie.

I'm on HK, took the 22-1 EW with UBet. This is more his kind of race, all the best!

Whatever happens today he’ll come on for it.

I wouldn't be going back to Aintree HK... cursed! Hopefully he's OK... the winner was impressive.

Yes, think you could be right. Seemed ok after being checked over so that’s must important. Just stick it down to experience and that’s racing.

We have the 3 G2 trial races this weekend coming so should give an idea of where we are from a HK runner perspective as it’s a bit confused at the moment in the Sprint and Cup distance. The mile is cut and dried for me, I saw 6-4 was available at B365 for BG. They have Hot King Prawn as fav for the Sprint too but I like Mr Stunning at the moment and I saw 8-1 for him.

Joseph O Brien's 2017 Melbourne Cup winner REKINDLING could possibly be supplemented for the Vase - I wondered what had happened to the horse as the yard have been quiet about him - had no idea he was in Australia
source racing.com The six-time Melbourne Cup-winning owner confirmed on Wednesday that the Joseph O'Brien-trained pair of Latrobe and 2017 Melbourne Cup winner Rekindling will travel to Hong Kong on their way back to O'Brien's stables in Ireland, but he is unsure whether either will start. Latrobe carries an entry for the Hong Kong Vase (2400m) but Rekindling, who has not been seen for more than 12 months since his Cup success, is not entered in any of the international features for the December 9 meeting at Sha Tin. |

Some tricky races tomorrow at Sha Tin, the big guns will be using these as preps for the HKIR so I will be only watching. Beauty Generation was impressive last time out, giving big chunks of weight to his rivals and it's hard to see any of the home brigade getting the better of him in the HK Mile on level weights. He will have to give weight away again tomorrow to his rivals and it will be interesting to see if they give him more of a race this time.
The Mile Championship (G1) at Kyoto looks another belter of a race tomorrow. Mozu Ascot (Frankel) is the favorite and he has been the talking horse this year amongst the milers... there is a lot of confidence behind him. He's up against some equally talented G1 winners which makes this race wide open IMO. Last years winner Persian Knight is a horse I like a lot and he's a lot better going right handed. Tokyo ain't his track and I think he will show his true form at Kyoto and go close but his price is on the short side for me. The one I've backed tomorrow (EW) and followed the last couple of years is Jour Polaire, I think she is hugely overpriced at 33-1 and has the form to go close in this race. She got the better of Aerolithe in the G1 Victoria Mile earlier on this year... Aerolithe franked that form finishing 2nd to Mozu Ascot in the G1 Yasuda Kinen. Jour Polaire's 9F prep race (4th) at Tokyo last month stretched her stamina but Lys Gracieux (2nd) and Crocosmia (5th) franked the form finishing 1st and 2nd respectively in last weeks Queen Elizabeth Cup (G1). My main worry is her regualr jockey is not riding and I'm not sure why (no news) but her trainer has won this race before with Sadamu Patek and I think she will out run her massive odds... hopefully. A few of the ones running at Kyoto tomorrow could be rocking up at Sha Tin for HKIR, they might give Beauty Generation more of a race... the picture should be clearer later tomorrow. Hot King Prawn looks a special sprinter and will be hard to beat. How is Riko doing after Aintree HK? |
|
By:
I'm hoping that DB Pin runs a decent race, he's sort of the forgotten horse and will be my early pick for Intl Day if he does come back soundly.
Mr D - he's ok, he'll be out at the end of the month as there aren't that many races for him, it was just a slip and he was a bit sore for a couple of days. Not too sure he'll get to the early season target that we wanted at the Dec Cheltenham meeting.....he's still a good horse!! |
|
By:
New track record there, can't see that 6-4 still being around
|
|
By:
That was impressive again HK, beating Good Ba Ba's track record as well.
I would love to see Persian Knight race at Sha Tin after narrowly missing out at Kyoto, the track will suit him but not sure he would beat Beauty Gen. My fear for Jour Polaire came true, the young replacement jock onboard did her no favours throughout the race but she still managed to run well. That's horse racing! ![]() Yep, I like DB Pin, he could be the value bet next month. That's good to hear HK, one of those things last week. He's a good jumper. ![]() |
|
By:
Another track record, the 2 in front killed each other on the sectionals.
Wednesday is the announcement for the nominated runners |
|
By:
That could be an issue for Hot King Prawn in the next race as well with Ivictory vying for the lead… set the race up for a closer? It didn't pose a problem for HKP last time though!
I cannot see the home team winning the HK Cup this year. Sungrazer and Deidre are the ones for me at the moment. |
|
By:
Agree, the cup won't be in HK.
Fifty Fifty and Stunning over HKP for me |
|
By:
Magic Man dictated the pace and slowed it down at the right time... level weights next time, Mr Stunning might get past him!?
|
|
By:
More questions than answers out of the 2 other trials, I'm not sure Stunning can get past him (5lb pull). Happy with DB Pin's run, looked like he'd get involved in the finish before he ran out of steam.
|
|
By:
Watching Beauty Gen again, I'm not sure him going left under pressure was a good thing... he was closer to the stand side rail at the finish. Not what I like to see for a prep run. Still the one to beat but that race might of took a bit more out of him than what the trainer would of liked!
|
|
By:
They’ve had issues with his feet before so it could be that but I agree it wasn’t good but it’s not surprising he lugged a bit as he was under pressure on the clock (not other horses). It is worth flagging though but he’s had 3 hard races so far, 2 giving lumps of weight away and this one breaking the long standing track record (on a day where a lot of races were outside standard).
I’d also flag that with Eagle Way too in his run as they broke the record too but that was due to the suicidal early pace, don’t think they’ll get that sort of pace in the Vase run so I’d be happy to lay the first 2 today with maybe Werther the one for the Vase as he needed the run today. We’ll have a better idea of what’s turning up after Wednesday night. |
|
By:
What’s the view on Mirage Dancer? There doesn’t seem to be a standout European horse for the Vase this year like there has been in recent years. He sort of fits a profile that I like for this race but he’s not rated as highly as previous winners. I’m not convinced by the MC horses that look like they’ll turn up either.

Looks like Persian Knight has been given the green light for HKIR. Lys Gracieux going for the Vase which is interesting... not in the betting for that race! The bookies are all over the place with these races.
Mirage Dancer has form with Best Solution and he has done pretty well on his international travels. |

yeah, its annoying eh Dinos - for eg bookies still have Ming Your Biscuits in the Hong Kong Sprint ....it has been retired after the breeders cup.
