I prob should have mentioned it though in the tot up as void. Also should've mentioned San Benedeto was n/r due to Ffos Las being abandoned.

Sint do you keep your betting records in a spreadsheet? I cannot tell you how useful record keeping is for self improvement. It'd be good to see some stats from others on here around shorter priced horses vs longer. I found from my betting records for season to Feb from last season and this season that sub 5/1 betting is not profit making for me and was loss making when Hurricane Flys 3 wins last season were excluded. Greater than 5/1 bets are nicely profitable. The tough part is the discipline and also to remove the emotion from betting. As everyone knows I have the extremes of emotion when it comes to this game. I do keep records in a spreadsheet yes. I think anyone who takes their betting seriously should. It also comes in handy to keep my fiances nerves at bay as she worries whenever I place a bet!

I don't really have any rules with regards price unless they're ridiculously shortly like 1/3 or something. Sometimes a 4/5 shot should be 1/2. Just recently I backed Thistlecrack for World Hurlde at 13/8 believing he should be Evens/ 10/11, he is now 5/4, so I have no problem backing shorties. They just don't give the same feeling of excitement I suppose.

Liam.....ShockedLaugh

Agree with Trev/Sint,guilty as charged, when first came across this thread 3 yrs ago, treating it initially as somewhere to put up selections, not truly understanding the ethos.
As time has passed, that has changed significantly, discipline mentioned above by CVB, for me, is the key area that I need to control, the ability to pass probably more important than when to play.
Having somewhere to access staking, amount of selections, time of year etc....in one place,is a great tool for anyone trying to hone their betting.

ROO.....fully understand that last comment,I have absolutely no doubt you were actually trying to help,we all make mistakes on here or forget posts/prices etc......text does not always read out the same as the spoken word.
You are indeed a true gent, with a wealth of knowledge that is evident for all to see,it would be a sad day were that not to continue.

IBRAHIM.....same comments apply, great to see you post this season,I hope you can reconsider.

Sint not saying anything wrong with backing shorties as even a 4/5 shot can be value. 4/5 about Faugheen is value. There are the successful crop of people who play big on short priced favs and make good returns. To improve I'd love to know why I'm currently failing at it and others can succeed. What am I doing that is possible to change for the better.

I want to improve by learning some from others.

Keeping a record of every bet placed is an absolute must.
I personally only bet in Handicaps - Class 1 and 2 only.
Level stake , single win only bets.
Essential you have a Racing  Bank sufficient to cover potential long losing runs.
Last five years records show average winning SP of 6/1. I rarely bet on anything less than 3/1.

I hope we see the return of everyone who has contributed to this thread. It's been great seeing
it so busy this season. I know it gets watched from the sidelines by a lot of people and one of
the best things about it is the general good humour of all involved. Good luck to all.
