Rolling Aces available at 70.0, so are we all agreed that's a non-runner?

Nicholls stated Rolling Aces would n't run in Pricewise preview of the race last week, his likely runners now Rocky Creek and Unioniste assuming Tidal Bay goes to Haydock this coming w/e.

Hennessy favourite Invictus absurd price says Alan King. Horse done plenty of work but will come on for race.

Will come on for the run? What's his main target then given his handicap mark is 145? You don't want this horse finishing 2nd or 3rd, missing out on a big pay cheque, having him go up 5-6lb in the weights and then win a Grade 2 a few weeks later worth £30k.

He may be an absurd price but I don't see the point in not having him ready unless he's had a setback. This race has been his target for ages.

Dunno where shockster got this information but if you want it confirmed, e-mail Alan King yourself.

I did last year wrt the festival plans for Manyriverstocross and he actually called me back in person, which was pretty huge of him.

Whilst I expect he doesn't want to be inunndated with calls a polite request, recognising his first duty is to the owners and how busy he must be, may elicit a favourable response from the trainer.

He's emailed me back a few times too Roger. Very decent of him.

Choc Thornton rides Invictus, Hutchinson goes to Newcastle for Grumeti.

With Tidal bay running Saturday, I assume we can rule him out of the Hennessy and the weights will rise at least 13lb if not more.

Katenko could be top weight.

Could be my misinterpretation of the form but as far as i can see virtually every horse left in needs easy ground. Dont know what the current going is but if the long term forecast is correct there isnt a drop of rain due to fall between now and next Saturday. Im on Highland Lodge but wouldnt be in the least surprised if she pulls him out and waits for Chepstow. Thoughts??

Quite possible, he does needs soft ground.

Invictus fans most be worried Choc is riding and not Hutchinson? He got beat on a 1/8 shot today.

Quite a few horses have shorted for this in the past week.

Handrians Approach is for the same owner as Invictus and has had a prep. NJH has won it twice in last 8 years, Trabolgan & Bobworth. Not sure Hadrians jumps well enough personally, gets in close to quite a few.12/1.

Highland Lodge appears to need soft ground and faced an impossible task last time out conceding 26lb to Standing Ovation. He has gone up 7lb for it and again i'm not sure of the trainer being able to get her horses to run to better mark on their next run. Very hit and miss for me. 12/1.

Our Father is all about being fresh. He wins first time out and is then usually nowhere afterwards, 12/1.

I personally cannot back Invictus with Choc riding.

Obvious choice but backed Rocky Creek eachway at 10/1.

By:

That was over 600 days ago. Choc had several serious injuries since then. He just doesn't see the same to me. Maybe he needs more time.
By:

When: 24 Nov 13 17:11
yes he has had suffered injuries but he has ridden winners at a good strike rate since he returned personally I think he is better on a chaser than a hurdler I have bey rocky creek and lord windermere but I want invictus to be my main bet for the obvious reasons weights going up wont help rocky creek or lord windermere

Hadrian's Approach off 146, got to be in the shake up. Finished placed in the RSA despite novicey errors and if anyone can iron these out its Henderson's team. On lines of form with the likes of Unioniste, Houblon is well in

I would not be backing any Hendo horses first time up

have 2 pt ew ante post Rocky Creek but he is another that could use some rain

any ideas who rides him? Jacobs I imagine, not good imo Sad

probably find something else to back

Judo - Hadrian's Approach -  he's already had a run over 2m4f at kempton, just lost in a photo over a trip too short. This fella is an out and out stayer 3m 2f round newbury should be right up hs street

I like the form of the Ascot race of 2nd November won by Houblon Des Obeaux.  The 2nd and 3rd interest me more than the winner Merry King and Triolo D'alene.  All 3 go on decent ground which will help.  Merry King ran very well at this meeting last year only finding Rolling Aces too good and Triolo D'Alene keeps improving and will definitely come on for the run as many seem to need it this year from the Henderson Yard.  25/1 seems pretty fair on here.

I would n't want to be too dogmatic about the ground as a lot of the second season chasers will have had limited opportunities to race on a decent surface.

If it does turn out to be less of a slog than usual, then the other entries some of the principals hold might be worth considering - Houblon Des Obeaux, Katenko and Lord Windermere are all in the King George, whereas Rocky Creek, Merry King and Loch Ba are in the Welsh National.

Particularly interesting in the case of Katenko who appears to have done all his racing on a surface similar to one he'd be most likely to encounter at Chepstow over Christmas. Anyway, I can't back him until he's proven his well-being after colic surgery.

Lord Windermere appears to be a little under the radar here, there's a perception in some quarters that he was a fortunate winner of the RSA after Boston Bob capsized but this has been his target for a long time and his trainer is emerging as a shrewd handler, imo.

Won't have a bet until I've looked at the race in detail later in the week but I'm quite sweet on him.

sorry, I should have said, I'm only really interested in seasonal debutants for this race

Given that horses generally don't come back from injury the same, and that 8 of the last 10 winners of the Hennessy were all on the seasonal debuts with only won winning 'rag' (9 winners within first 4 or 5 in the betting) the two i will be most concentrating on between now and the publication of the pricewise tables on Saturday morning (where i am a self confessed thief of prices already gone during them small 15 minute windows) are LORD WINDERMERE AND ROCKY CREEK

STJ you can also add Suny Bay, Teeton Mill, Ever Blessed, Kings road, Gingembre(Be My Royal)to that list in the last 15 years alone. Therefore depending on horse/trainer I would say it is not a positive or negative.

I didn't go that far back shocksterWink I agree about the Ascot race and I really like Merry King. He is progressive and I thought he was very patiently ridden last time and possibly was a primer? Whatever he does here I'm sure he will pick up a big staying handicap this season just hope it's this one!

A BULLISH Jim Culloty has reported that last season’s RSA Chase hero Lord Windermere is “twice the horse he was last year” ahead of his attempt to become Ireland’s first winner of the Hennessy Gold Cup for 33 years and only the second since Arkle in 1965.

The trainer is leaving nothing to chance in the countdown to Saturday’s £175,000 feature and has asked Newbury for an overnight stable away from the main block, as he does not want Lord Windermere to be disturbed by noise from Friday evening’s bloodstock sale at the racecourse.

Culloty said: “I know trainers say horses have grown and strengthened over the summer, and that’s normally because they have come out of a field fairly fat, but after Robbie McNamara schooled him this morning he told me he is twice the horse he was last year.

“He has done plenty of work and is as fit as you’d expect any horse to be first time out. He has been away from home on three occasions and did a blinding piece of work last week when I rode him over a mile at the Curragh. He jumped brilliantly this morning and it’s all systems go. I think he has got a great chance. I really fancy him.”

Lord Windermere is a top-priced 12-1 after Monday’s five-day stage which, as expected, saw a 13lb hike in the weights following the withdrawal of Tidal Bay, leaving Cape Tribulation at the top of the handicap on 11st 12lb, with Katenko 1lb lower.

Alan King has confirmed Robert Thornton will ride ante-post favourite Invictus, who is a best-priced 15-2. Thornton now shares the number one job at King’s with Wayne Hutchinson, who will be at Newcastle to ride Grumeti in the Stan James Fighting Fifth Hurdle.

Well Refreshed, who was a best-priced 25-1 for the Hennessy, will instead tackle the longer trip of the London National at Sandown on Saturday week with the added hope of finding more testing going.

Daft question!!!  Does anybody know if W.Mullins intends to send Terminal over?  He's a big price on here and ran poorly LTO, but was only btn 10L by Lord Windermere in the RSA and is 10LB better off at the weights and should be match fit.  He's also won on good ground.
Anyway I've had a few quid at 100's+ as he seems overpriced if he's coming?

Just been out and relieved lads of some of their 12/1 lord windermere! Really fancy him now after reading that. Nowt like reading a nice peace of news about a horse you have fancied for the race since the entries were published! Excited

No idea Shockster though I did hear the Ruby Walsh interview on RUK yesterday and I think he said Terminal may run as one of WPM's entries. He has an entry for Thurles on Thursday too.
