I would have been all over Highland Colori but they went and won a poxy stakes race for £7k at Warwick and picked up a 5lb penalty

that has to be a negative, shame coz he is a perfect type otherwise

Tell me about it, was the first one i had gotten in the book, was seething they added an extra 5lbs by winnin a small race! Granted its gonna b offset but the jockey but still!

yeah, off 99 with Murphy claiming 5lb he would have been a major play but at these weights I can't see him beating the winner

Cool

Good to soft places creeping in at Ayr.  A few showers expected the next few days but more windy than anything else and Ayr is certainly one racecourse that dries extremely quickly.

Come Saturday I wouldn't be surprised to see good ground.

Would be hugely interested if Red Dubawi comes over for the race. Stays further (7 furlong horses do well in this race), trainer does well in these handicaps and gives impression this horse has more to come.

aye, off 99 I make Gabrials Lad at least 10lb well in, he's on a steep upward curve of form and will be hard to keep out of the frame, it's a punting yard so expect significant price contraction

I have him 3lb clear from Highland Colori and 4 from Khubala, those are my top 3

I'm on, might back some of the others on my list when the track bias, if any, draw and going are known

Gabriels Lad backed today - see what the final decs bring.

Horse is 7lb ahead of handicapper on my ratings and with only 14 career starts you have to think there's more juice still in his present rating. He is in great form going down by a neck to Redvers at Ascot lto over 7f. Goes well in these big field handicaps, will enjoy the ground.

Plenty going for him at 20-1.

Long Awaited interests me but I think is unlikely to get in the race but perhaps one to consider for the Bronze or Silver Cups.

Looks a 5 furlong horse Swagger mate

When: 18 Sep 13 10:50
Alright Judge. Yes that could well be the case and given they have only run him over 5 furlongs recently it would seem that they think the same. He has won over 6 furlongs and placed over 7 furlongs on testing ground but they were weaker races so might have just got away with it. Also, when he weakened over 6 furlongs he was only a 3 year old running against older horses so I think that could also have been a factor. It will be interesting to see what race they go for with him as I think he is a horse who will win a big handicap given how well he travels, it's a question of which one.

Maybe the race at Haydock will be the one where he finished 2nd to Face The Problem a I still think he has a fair chunk in hand of his current mark

Despite all the talk of the draw it hasn't paid to be too dogmatic about it, last time the Silver and Ayr gold Cups came from the same side was 2009, and last year, the 1st year that the Bronze, Silver and Gold were run on the same day, the winners came Far, Stands and centre!!

You'd have torn your hair out switching sidesPlain

Never worried about the draw backed winners drawn 26, and 8 can't remember where ROMAN WARRIOR was drawn, if they are good enough they win no matter what.

More worried about where the pace is than what the draw is, tbh.

By:

When: 18 Sep 13 21:39
yeah I'm not bothered about the draw, if the horse is well weighted enough they win anyway
By:

When: 18 Sep 13 22:57
All of these postulations about going and draw are in favour of the bookies, just so many points to worry about when if you know your horse,
then you MUST assume that it is good enough, so stop worrying about something you cannot right and allow nature to
take it's course.

drawbias.com seems to suggest there's very little in it, winners drawn all over the place
By:

When: 18 Sep 13 23:31
yes, speed in the race probably more significant, any bias might show up in the two consolation races though

By:

When: 19 Sep 13 13:47
There's pace right across the track if they follow their usual run styles, so it's Highland Colori to lead and Gabriel's Lad to pick him up late with Khubala somewhere near. Lightning Cloud might do best of the low numbers if Hamza, Captain Ramius and Bogart go at it hammer and tongs
By:

When: 19 Sep 13 13:58
This is just my opinion so don't snap my head off

but Jack Dexter is a terrible price at 8/1. Just looking at his weight compared to Mass Rally and Captain Ramius he has to give both horses 5lbs but beat Mass Rally a head at levels and Captain Ramius half a length at levels this season. There has to be a very good chance that one of those two will run well enough to reverse that form

and that's before you look at any trends surrounding weight, BHA mark and trainers record in the race (0 places from 13 runners)

8/1 looks very skinny to me

I know there's a lot of water under the bridge since, but back in September 2012 Gabrial's Lad beat Jack Dexter giving him 4lbs

now Jack Dexter has to give Gabriel's Lad 13lbs

just saying

got to improve 17lbs more than Gabriels Lad has done on that form

just my opinion but norfolk and chance, would need to be better than Lethal Force on my figures

set to drift like a barge, going drying, strong wind and very little rain expected

The weather forecast for 2moro at Ayr & overnight 2nite is for dry weather & the track does drain well. Sat morn to mid-day is dry, but there is a chance of some rain coming into the west coast in the afternoon Plain.
Like the look of Gabriels Lad myself for a small interest & if it does stay soft my old friend from 2011 Our Jonathan Cool would be of interest of this mark if he can find a bit of his best form, he is still only a 6yo after all, classy horse on his day.

Hamza, Bogart, Captain Ramius all drawn low, and nothing to match the combined class and pace of that trio on the other side. Would be amazed if winner came from 16 or higher (ish).

Any number with chances but two for the e/w optimists are Hamza and Majestic Myles.
Hamza has his fair share of weight but his last run can be forgotten and the Irish form may be a deal better than it looks. One line gives him the beating of Gabriel's Lad.Worth a copper or two at huge odds.

On 2012 form Majestic Myles represents Society Rock with 9:7 and his Newcastle run this year gives him every chance of beating Jack Dexter. Two dismal runs since temper my enthusiasm but Jack Dexter is about 10/1 and Majestic Myles three or four times that price.

A good race to get stuck into.
