Listed below are all the horses who have won a race over at least 3 1/2 miles (i.e. proven stamina, which might hold them in good stead on the day):
Tidal Bay Hey Big Spender Raz De Maree Uncle Junior Giles Cross Teaforthree Le Beau Bai Bradley Any Currency Mon Mome Monbeg Dude Incentivise Arbor Supreme There are a few unlikely runners in that list, but only Teaforthree makes it from my top 4 in the trends list. I'd prefer his chances to those of Michel Le Bon who is yet to convince me that he's up to the rigours of this searching test. I think TF3 showed improvement in his first 2 runs this season, and provided his exertions in the Hennessy haven't taken too much out of him, he's the one I fancy to win the race. I also respect Viking Blond, and think Monbeg Dude is not witout a chance, provided he jumps better than he did first time out at Cheltenham when unseating. |

I've just taken 50s on Cool Operator. A good way out of the handicap, but should love the slog.

I think its all academic because if this rain keeps up they'll have to rename it.....wait for it.......the Squelch National.

By:
THE SQUELCH NATIONAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

unlucky Roo.

Think I'll do T43 in an e/w double with Long Run. Both seem very solid and would be surprised if either was unplaced. Expect both to win.
By:
why do you see t43 as a certainty to place after his last 2 runs and his form amounty to zero gold cup winner??
not a good bet imo |
By:
really good thread this by the way...

Has good course form, form on heavy, stays 4 miles. He was a little disappointing LTO but he did stay on again so the extra furlongs and heavier ground should be right up his street. I do admit his price is a little short and wouldn't be surprised if something is better handicapped but I can't find one I'd back in confidence.
By:
Oh and I think it was your good self who advised Judo not back this horse on it's debut because it will need the run so can ignore that. I'm hoping everything has been primed for today, although Hennessy is an odd race to choose for a prep.
By:
I don't know why but think the nhc form should be treated with caution...always a very competitive race but didn't think this years race was really what I wanted and shouldn't be treated literally....his form previously was ok a 3 runner affair and a good win against restless larry and pulled clear of cannington brook looks good on paper but just think the horse just hasn't looked as good as his mark suggests...he may well sluice up but you have to take it on trust he is the full ticket and at 9-2 he makes no appeal...
By:
Has to be a worry how much that Cheltenham race takes out of horses as Chicago Grey was never the same after winning it. I don't think he is well in by any means just struggling to find anything else with course/trip/ground form that does look well handicapped so coming to him by default. I probably shouldn't bet on the race at all but it's christmas!
By:
Have you got a fancy for the race? Just looking at Monbeg dude now. Shaped like a stayer when winning last time and his 3rd at Newbury has worked out very well, winner apart. Does seem prone to jumping errors which is an obvious worry but getting 16/1.
By:
well am waiting pal...tricky as got burnt fingers on michel le bon in the hennessy so am holding fire but still believe his form is good enough to win this and he has only had 4 career chase starts so should improve plus ground will be ideal...monbeg dude is an interesting runner if progressing and think he is a tad of value but am just waiting now as the weights will go up...am gagging to get t43 beat but might have got him wrong we will see
By:
Couldn't disagree with Michel and if you take the form lines with The Package literally then he is better in than T43. I was just worried about his hennessy run and whether he would stay but it was after a lay off of 2 years and he may not have been right last year. I remember him being well backed for that Hennessy too.
I've talked myself out of the double anyway. I'd be shocked if Long Run wasn't placed but I'm not a huge punter so looking for something to double him up with. |

Weights gonna rocket up as expected wen TB comes out
![]() |
By:
Nichols better not do a dirty and run or leave Tidal in overnight. I'll be well pi$$ed with him if he does.
By:
Think there might be a couple of penalties impacting the above weights.
By:
imv TB Will withdrawn so late that weights will be unaffected. To aid Le Bon's cause
By:
It wouldn't surprise me either though Nicholls not normally like that. However it is a very genuine option to Lexus
Decided to have small bet on Universal Soldier on that basis, as he has a very decent chance and worst case he'll only be 2lb wrong. Couldn't play anything lower down in case TB is left in |
By:
It would be pretty disgraceful if Nichols did that and in this current climate where his character has been questioned I doubt it would be a wise thing to do but its Nichols so who knows.
By:
When Sporazene won the Grand Annual Rigmarole was withdrawn, the former was then top weight(or nearabouts only carrying 10-13!!

By:
Remember that very well ZILZAL, my mate 'phoned me to say that his relative had told him that the Irish horse was a cert and I told him that the top weight had been withdrawn
so that his other could run off the lower weight, yet the second turned out to be a better horse in the long run and Sporazene only won once and much later in his career. Funny can't remember the seconds name know it began with H and placed in Champion Hurdle. |

The enigma that was Harchibald.
By:
Well remembered MALIBU.
I remember that I failed to take the 10/1 on offer. |
By:
Wrong - Harchibald was not second in that race.
By:
would be bad PR - if TB is going to Ireland for Lexus presumably he would travel Boxing Day latest - Ferdy took his out in time to let Unioniste in the big handicap at Cheltenham last week.
By:
Hawadeth was the beast who was second

Regarding 'leaving one in', hands up if (like me) you remember Elsworth leaving Dessie in the RP Chase so that Rhyme And Reason was one of few running off their proper mark.
By:
I know it would annoy plenty but if I was nicholls I would leave it in...but i'm mercionary...and would have no problem with it.
By:
may have to leave it in with the weather how it is at the moment anyway...
By:
be very surprised if PFN did it.

any know what happens here in regards declarations??
By:
I think, and I stress think, that it is re-opened to all original entries against which the weights were framed ( not sure if there was a forfeit stage then ) with a new 5 day dec after that
By:
Not sure your right there roo...if they do that that will have to give the money back on every horse...think it will just be 5 day decs but not sure at all tbh...
anyone know what happens here in regards declarations?? I know the bookies say they are still a runner but I know I asked for my money back a while back and got it... that was on a runner who was declared though, they changed the days and I said that wasn't the bet I had placed in regards date...quite complicated this... in regards le beau bai I believe you would of got it had he declared it but obviously if the race is called off you will get it but even so I would fight your corner as the bet was struck for the 27th |
By:
Dont think it is Roo, 5 day decs stand imo - a re opening would make any Ante Post punts a joke ! Glad really as i was starting to av kittens over PFN pulling afast one with TB.
