If that's the case and we are looking at an OR of less than 150 that rules out a whole host of horses. Walkon is probably the best of those off 143 but some of these have bits of form with Walkon and are much bigger prices. Notus De La Tour jumps off the page with a mark of 144 and anything Pipe sends out warrants respect. Other than that what is there at the mo lurking off the 140s that we know about that will have an entry. Bold Sir Brian is interesting and is no 200/1 shot but i have no idea whether it will be entered or not. Lucinda had this originally entered for the Jewson last year and was insulted that it was put up at 25/1, so it's obviously held in high regard. Doesn't fit the profile in terms of strong Southern stable trend but would do so in terms of a young horse with potential on the way up. Failing that everything i like is running off 150 or so (For Non Stop, Quantativeeasing) Divers maybe on fgood ground? (Think something will improve past him.) If Grand Crus goes it's because Pipey thinks he's well handicapped and who are we to argue...

I am certainly not arguing with David Pipe ref Grands Crus and he may well have a bit to spare off 157 but the OR trend is strong enough to put me off. Others I have in mind and I have no idea if they will run are Micheal Flips and Carlito Brigante.

I get what you're saying as i looked at the race that myself at first glance, i just think it's dangerous to write off some of the higher rated horses who still have potential improvement in them. Carlito Brigante is very ground dependant and i assume will only run if the going is good.

"the official rating trend" - the thing is with this guys it is going one way, upwards.
The race is becoming classier and classier and is increasingly favouring those towards the top of the handicap. I tap into that trend with Paul likely to run Tataniano. As I mentioned earlier, this could make the weights for Grand Crus and a lot of the bottom feeders simply won't get in. |

quite true harchi last seven winners5 won 146-148 and the two others both 139 were imperial commander and exotic dancer i like champion court and walkon my original fancy now looks like a non runner solix

On the basis of that then I would be looking at either PFNs other entries ( he's got to win the race soon ) that would get in not o/w or that of the owner. The last two winners have carried 10-5 and 10-3 harchi, hardly top of the handicap
With regards Walkon I thought it strange firstly that he went for RSA and then Scottish National. Succeeded in getting his rating down 5lbs and is now a full 14lbs better off with GC for a neck beating. Walkon's record fresh is immense - he's very interesting imo. Of course we don't know what will be entered yet, but I would be surprised with a top weight of 164 if 143 didn't get in |

It's going to be very very interesting. I have to warn you all (as you probably know) I am the Pipe's biggest fan and have a boatload on Grand Crus for all races this season (PP,KG,CGC).
Ok so with that equine declaration equivalent to 'without prejudice' we can begin on the entries when they come out !! The bookies list so far is a P155 take though really isn't it ? more than half won't be showing up. |

Really...you astound me!
I too really like GC and bizarre as it is I prefer him for the KG actually. As mentioned earlier think the PP distance is perfect for him at Cheltenham, don't see him as a Gold Cup horse at all,well not this season anyway. Good luck nonetheless |

I doubt any decsion will be made on whether Tataniano runs until after his race at Chepstow on Saturday. I also wouldn't read anything in to his price on here - the yard don't go in for that.

Tataniano..wouldn't rule him out with a 7lb claimer on board. I don't think he'll run,otherwise price on here looks value.

I don't know if he'll run, but if he runs at the weekend his unfortunate record would indicate that he would be unlikely to be able make the gig 3 weeks later.
Anyway imo he has always looked like a specialist 2 miler and very unlikey to be able to dominate from the front in a 20 runner handicap |

Nicholls says in the Mark Howard book "We are aiming him at the Paddy Power Gold Cup and his run there will determine whether he continues over two and half miles or we drop him back to two".
Now, we all know the record of 2 milers stepping up to this distance at this track is not a great one - typically we're looking for horses proven over further. In all likelihood Andy Stewart will want a runner though, so could well be the Paddy Power. If they claim, and I suspect they might, he'd be a very very live chance. I respect him. Anyone think any of the Irish are turning up this year ? What would Ruby be on ? This Unioniste probably a December meeting candidate. |

roo...grand cru was'nt right in the rsa...so would'nt take that nk beating at face value..walkon still got some ground to make up on m.flips & for non stop i would have thought

I like GC as as said on here and happy to accept he didn't show his best in the RSA. But is he 14lbs better than Walkon? I think 1st time up is the time to catch him and it is this, comparative to his rating, that is the real interest to me. He does have it find with M Flips and FNS but the 1st time out and being at Cheltenham makes me think he could turn it round with both of them, especially M Flips As you say, need to wait for the entries. |

Just a heads up guys, David Bridgwater has tweeted that The Giant Bolster will be running at Haydock and not going for the Paddy Power. Another one to rule a line through. If the likes of TGB, Menorah, Cue Card and Champion Court don't go the market is going to look a little different and that's before the likes of Pipe and King make their decisions.

Either that's over the top or Sprinter Sacre is too low on 169. 160 is only 2lb lower than hurdle rating and he hasn't achieved nearly as much.

That was possibly a 165 performance, although you can overreact when most of the field are not race fit. If he does get that mark, Grands Crus will drop 6lbs in the weight.

Trev - Since Poquline has run in the race for the past 3 seasons, I presume that's the case.
For non stop would have been thrown in of 10-11. Williams is still considering the paddy power. |
