@ DMCK - to be fair there is a forecast for continued cold days in the next couple of weeks. Don't think it will affect work/fitness as such but a cold spring will affect condition - especially with fillies.
By:
the period i was referring to in which the freezing conditions would affect Guineas horses was from xmas til late jan early feb, the the 3-4weeks that will give one horse an advantage over another based on where he/she was trained. in my opinion DA and the AOB's will be that week or 2 better prepared than English counterparts.
interesting this further cold will affect fillies like you say yourself and maybe some will have winter coats longer. moving on! JSB and AOB both out giving quotes this week. all positives |

Hannon nominates Toronado as his No:1 colt and pencils in the 2,000 Guineas.
Richard Hannon website 9/3/13. "The unbeaten Toronado, surely another bargain buy at 55,000 Euros at Deauville, is progressing along nicely for the Coriolan Links Partnership, and he could well take in the 2000 Guineas along the way. He is obviously our number one, having looked the part last season and received rave reviews from Richard Hughes, who believes that he will never have a better chance of riding the winner of the greatest Flat race in the world." |

Strong stuff!

It gets better
R Hannon website 14/3/13 Toronado impresses in away-day at Kempton RICHARD HANNON sent eight horses to Kempton this morning for a full-scale workout around the Polytrack, and the report that he received back from Richard jnr had the boss bubbling with enthusiasm as the new Flat season gets ever closer. He said: "Toronado worked particularly well with Havana Gold and Law Enforcement, and he has done really well through the winter. He has lengthened and filled out in all the right places, and he has grown into a lovely horse. "He is by High Chaparral, but John Magnier is also familiar with the distaff side of the colt's pedigree, and when we met in Barbados in January he told me that a mile and a half would not be a problem." The unbeaten Toronado is a 16-1 chance to give the boss his first Derby triumph at Epsom in June, and Richard added:"We are in the fortunate position of having a fistful of smart three-year-olds to go to war with, and my biggest problem is trying to keep them apart for the trials. "I would think that Toronado will head to Newmarket for the Craven Stakes, Havana Gold could also go to HQ for the Free Handicap, while Olympic Glory, who has also thrived during the winter and moved beautifully when we worked him earlier in the week, would likely reappear in the Greenham Stakes at Newbury. |

what about Van Der Neer?

what about Van Der Neer?
By:
Sort your computer out sint, repeating everything at the moment!

sint
http://www.richardhannonracing.co.uk/news.htm "However, we also need to find a race for Van der Neer, who showed what a decent horse he was when running a blinder in the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster last back-end, so we'll be thumbing through the programme book this week to find something suitable. |
By:
If they seriously think of Toronado as a Derby horse and also plan running him in the Guineas, would have thought it would be better to go straight there rather than running in Craven.
By:
it's facked roo, need a new one.
Yeah tbh it sounded like they think he'll be best at a mile to 10f. |
By:
AOB's two runners to go straight there.
After the gamble, Cristoforo Columbo is now tops 12/1. He did not get his desired ground conditions last season, and we all know his sire beat Bolger's sire of Dawn Approach at Newmarket when the going was like a road, but CC has only Won a maiden and for me his price is ridiculous. |
By:
Is Kingsbarns the other one then sint?
By:
And agree about CC - just as likely have soft ground again in May anyway!
By:
Yes Roo, just a brief few words quoted on Sporting Life.

The unbeaten Gosden yoke anyone ? Maiden win needs another look, any hoss doin 90+ TS on debut needs keeping onside, dunno if he acted round Goodwood next time - still progressed - then bossed the best sales race of the season outstaying Havana Gold close home after briefly looking in danger. I'd say that was excellent form - beckett hoss nutted in a Grp 1 after. With a mile sure to suit and 25s freely available im in ! My doubt with the Botti hoss is the trip - looked to fold late on in the Middle Park, dunno the last hoss to win the first classic who didn't race over 7+ as a juvenile either - tho im sure someone can enlighten me !
By:
Of course he's not really unbeaten but probably should be !!
By:
Canford Cliffs when close Liam.
Ballydoyle tweeting a gallops photo today of three horse by HenrySatNav, .. CC,Pedro and George Vancouver suggesting they will all run which is a bit different from the quotes on Sporting Life. FWIW. |
By:
Like your thinking liam, especially if its softish.
Agree that trip may be an issue for Mooj, but the ground is the most important factor for me |
By:
Ghurair a lively outsider Liam - good spot. Mind you Olympic Glory looks too big @ 16/1 on all known form, I'd have him 2nd fav - is he being aimed elsewhere?
Personally I still feel the favourite will take the world of beating. Hoping to lay off my Moohaajim 25/1 either just before or just after the Greenham - depends if I think he'll win it or not. |
By:
AOB tweeted yesterday all their Guineas horses will work at the Curragh on Sunday.
By:
I was looking at him aswell Uncle. His only defeat came at the hooves of Dawn Approach when he did not get a clear run and it was just two weeks after his maiden. My only query is Choisir's over a mile?
By:
Richard Hannon did say after Olympic Glory's win at Longchamp that he could be aimed at the French 2000 Guineas, due to the fact that they have a few they could send to Newmarket and he already has experience at Longchamp.
By:
On the flip side he is planning on sending OG for the Greenham. Toronado is going for the Craven probably as they see a mile as a minimum and if he seems to be too much of a stayer then he could still swerve the Guineas and wait for a Derby trial.
By:
Choisir with stamina on the dams side. I see OG as Hannons best chance at HQ with the 2yo form in the book. Once it wins its trial the 16/1 will look massive. Toronado surely a stayer being more suited for Epsom
By:
Yeah it would do but won't beat the Mooj at Newbury
![]() In all seriousness could be a hot race, may have to go |
By:
Anyone know what's happening with Mars?
By:
Bruce Raymond mentions in todays paper he hope Ghurair will make up into a Guineas horse.
By:
Italian or German?
By:
Lets just hope this bloody weather picks up & we get some gd/fast ground come the 1st wk in May. If the fav has trained on well from 2to3 then he will take some beating, love the way he keeps finding for pres at the biz end of his races, but will he line-up if it came up very soft again this year?
Of the bigger prices (over priced imo) I was impressed by Ghurair at 2 & he looks sure to progress at 3. Like the fav, he looks very tough at the end of his races & has a touch of class about him. |
By:
Mars amongst workers at Curragh tomorrow apparently - no mention of Kingsbarns as far as I can see
By:
doesn't look like Kingsbairns will be going for the guineas after those comments
By:
not looking good for kingsbarns thats y cc is 2nd fav now
By:
And suddenly MArs reemerges from the shadows.
Cristiforo Columbo is massively ground dependent, so couldn't be backed with any sense until the day. I must say,and despite knowing to take Aidan's words with a pinch of salt, I'm more than intrigued that Mars is the first horse he spoke of in relation to the Guineas. |
By:
One of the queries with Mars is that he's likely prepping but that offers the conundrum of is he Horatio Nelson prepping; out the back there for a run or Camelot prepping; wins & is a Classic standard horse.
I thought Ballydoyle made a bit of a mess of their 2yos last year & fancy that anything that's decent enough for the Classics might be coming from lightly raced animals. |
By:
It's a penalty kick for Dawn Approach, and the person taking the penalty has never missed one before. As the player steps up to take the spot kick, the goalkeeper is tieing his laces, and the referee doesn't intend to stop the game.
By:
You taking the 2/1 then?
By:
Nope. The folk with bigger prices shouldn't lose too much sleep though. He will win comfortably if he gets there and breaks from the stall without fault

I've actually been looking at this race today as it happens. Maybe a sporting bet on the O'Brien runners might be worth a few bob, but i simply can't see anything other than an easy enough win for Bolgers. It doesn't matter what angle i look at it from. The more i see the Dewhurst, the better it gets. I would be suprised if he doesn't win.

Graeme 83, the penalty taker was not fit to take the kick in 2007 and hit the crossbar in 2008.
