I have battled personally against a number of "modernisations" at York, including a prolonged campaign against the abolition of the old Silver Ring - still an appalling disgrace. I was in the campaign against the 4 day Ebor festival and was dead against (letters in papers etc etc) the Saturday Ebor. All the above changes made the whole york Ebor meeting far worse for a real racing fan. After all that its still the best race meeting of the year, bar none. |

When: 07 Aug 11 15:16 After all that its still the best race meeting of the year, bar none. Your having a laugh. ![]() I always used to go for the whole 3 days in the early-mid nineties and might have agreed with you then, but haven't been since 2001. All the changes to the course (why don't they stay on the inside rail up the straight anymore?) the 4th day, plus the swarms of pissed up lads and lasses have utterly ruined it. |
By:
As a regular I have found a way of avoiding the drunks and enjoying the racing greatly, although it may be a bit tricky this year on the Saturday.
By:
good for you, cry, still have a good week

poor racing, poor horses, poor herd like jockeys, rotton prize money, high entrance fees, ridiculous catering prices, watered ground, corruption abound, diluted racedays, and still people find time to criticise the drunken fools who,s money is the only thing stopping the game going to the dogs completely, its like having your fav football club being minutes from closing and moaning because the fool of a billionaire prepared to save it likes a drink on a saturday afternoon unbelievable

dont know how zoffany ran today, but dont know what obrien is playing at, maybe the frankel 2nd did flatter him but surely would have a squeak in the international.
By:
I thought that was an odd one, trying Zoffany out over 6 1/2f when the last twice he's shaped like a miler. Unsurprisingly, he wasn't able to get close today, but then a horse that has come from the back in all his best runs was always gonna struggle to do that against hardened sprinters
By:
Zoffany's problem looked more like the going than the distance. He looked uncomfortable throughout and was never traveling.
By:
This will be a piss poor race.
Twice Over looks good to me. |
By:
is there any chance that workforce could run in it, certain winner if he did,
By:
nope,imo.
Why you so desperate for other runners Elisjohn ? Have you laid something ? |
By:
Next stop Longchamp for Workforce.
By:
sint, ive laid frankel to lose a 100 quid, thats all, i just fancied a tasty few quid on workforce at 500, and zoffany at 560,
By:
p s just hoping stote or obrien might listen to me and put them in,both could win it if they ran, well gosden listen to us didnt he in kg
![]() |
By:
Frankel,Workforce and Zoff will not go near the race
By:
ok Elis. I wondered if you had laid ATD
![]() ![]() |
By:
Apparently Midday runs with Twice Over.
Vita Nova for the Oaks. |
By:
must be confidence of winning the yorshire oaks with vita nova, coz midday would have surely won that
By:
TQ on Midday, Ian Mongan Twice Over.
By:
I'm quite surprised by this, but as you say elisjohn they must be confident about Vita Nova. Be interesting to see if Snow Fairy follows suit and lines up in the International or now takes what looks an easier chance to regain the winning thread in the oaks
By:
could be that theyre ultra confidence of beating await the dawn
![]() |
By:
Midday & Twice Over are both rated higher than Await The Dawn so nothing to be scared of,he will need to improve further to beat them which he could well do but at the moment his form is inferior.
By:
This will be ATD's toughest test yet, you couldn't say that about Midday so at about 7/2 I still think she's a decent price. Is Sri Putra due to run? Has been running decent races against better horses than this.
By:
elis,i would not get carried away with the fact that they would be confident of Vita Nova winning the oaks, the only reason that Midday and Twice Over are running here is because connections are desperate to win this race and feel 2 strong bullits are better than one, nothing to do with Vita Nova,
By:
midday's best ever run puts her about a pound behind Await The Dawn. She is getting 3 lbs, and he is still unexposed.
my money is on Midday, but its close |
By:
Take away Planteurs Royal Ascot run and he,d surely be favourate for this if he goes for this race. I would have thought this would be Planteur,s easier race rather than take on Goldikova over a mile in france.
By:
i like planteur as a decent chance too. However he would appear to be a dubious runner.
By:
Planteuer is definitely running at deaville on monday and runs massively below his level everytime he runs outside of france anyway, for whatever reason i dont know
By:
All we know about Await The Dawn is that he is much better than Harris Tweed, who would be 66/1-100/1 for this if he ran in place of Await The Dawn.
He has not done anything that you wouldn't expect his rivals here to do easily, betting should be close between the principals. |
By:
pissing it down in the north yesterday, more today, unfaviurable weekend, might we get ground on the soft side, if so surely midday wont run, record on softish poor, irish oaks, and last time v misty for me .,
By:
exellent spelling, unfavourable, think its right this time
![]() |
By:
it will be if you take the second 'u' out![]() |
By:
Midday has disappointed on Sfot in Ireland, but has won on it in England & France.
If both TO and Mida line-up, there is no way ATD should be odds-on, imo, even though I do think he'll win. |
By:
oops |
By:
10 left in, including misty for me, interesting
By:
Misty For Me left in
By:
maybe a obrien waiting to see ground with rain about with her
By:
Await the Dawn short enough but has more scope for improvement than the other 2.
By:
Snow Fairy to run in Yorkshire oaks not Juddmonte, Monsieur Peslier rides.
