Moonlight Cloud is owned by George Strawbridge who also owns Morning Charm and Rainbow Springs (with John Gosden). He would not run Fantasia and Rainbow View against each other in 2009, so he may well aim one at Newmarket and one at Longchamp again.

I see what your saying Indian, but you could argue that did not work for him last time, although in fairness both horses were not good enough anyway.

There has been a nibble for one of the Guineas outsiders - Barry Hills' filly Make A Dance, who won a back-end maiden at HQ by 4 lengths on her second start. She has been backed (to small stakes) from 200 down to 100 on here. Maybe someone has spotted that she made her debut (finishing a well beaten 9th) in the same Kempton maiden in which Ghanaati made her debut a couple of years earlier. But there, I suspect, the comparison ends. For one thing, she's in the same ownership as leading contender Helleborine.
I'm also puzzled by the interest in Zoowraa, a possible second string for Godolphin. White Moonstone is their main Guineas hope and is reportedly pleasing Saeed Bin Suroor. I know that Zoowraa is with a different trainer (Al Zarooni), but all the same, she's plenty short enough at around 20/1. |

lads does anyone know is moonlights cloud being aimed for the race? thanks
|
|
By:
James - any concern Helleborine has not been entered for the Irish Guineas?
|
|
By:
Must be some upbeat reports on Memory - last matched price on here was 9.2

Good to see that Misty For Me is a possible runner in the trial at Leopardstown on Sunday, over 7f. This suggests she's pretty forward and being trained for the Guineas, rather than being kept back for an Oaks campaign; the right idea imo.
If she runs on Sunday I don't expect her to be that impressive, as APOB will be timing her to peak on May 1st. Any sort of win on Sunday would be a big positive in my book. |
|
By:
She would have to win it though as usually those races aren't that strong.
He has Roderic O'Connor booked for the Colts trial at this stage which is also intriguing as his last few Guineas contenders have gone there fresh. |

Freddie Head on Moonlight Cloud:
Head also had news on 1,000 Guineas hope Moonlight Cloud - as short as 16-1 for the Classic at Newmarket. He added: "She has a ton of speed and is a little filly who is very fast. She is the ideal type for Newmarket and we will run her in a prep race in April and decided from there. The Guines is the plan." |
|
By:
Moonlight Cloud is to start off her three-year-old campaign in the Prix Imprudence before trainer Freddie Head turns her attention to the 1000 Guineas.
The Imprudence, which is run at Maisons-Laffitte on April 7, is a long-established Classic trial and was won by the Guineas winner Natagora in 2008 as well as the great Miesque, who was ridden by Head himself. The trainer appears to have held Moonlight Cloud in the highest esteem for some time, telling reporters after she took a Longchamp conditions race last September that she was the best juvenile he had trained. She was hardly disgraced against the colts when taking a giant hike in class for the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere, coming in fourth behind Wootton Bassett. "I really like her," said Head. "Like a lot of the best three-year-olds she has a turn of foot and she has got class. "The plan is to run in the Prix Imprudence as a prep and go for the Guineas, as I have always thought Newmarket would suit her. But there's still a long way to go." |

Possible she could race Helleborine, an interesting early season clash.

Will be worth watching the Irish 1000 trial today 4pm at Leopardstown. Several of the runners hold entries for the English 1000. The two Bolger runners interest me. I think Hurrican Havoc is better than she showed in the Rockfel last year having raced just 6 days previously. She didn't quite stay a mile when being beaten by Gemstone the week before but I think there could be more to come and I managed to get a few quid on her at 500 on here for the English 1000 last night. Radharcnafarraige has decent form with Memory over what looked too short a trip last summer. Of the field these are the two that I think could show up with a live chance at a big price right now for the English guineas.

If anything, i'd take the winner from the race,Empowering, even if she is more exposed and suffered no trouble in-running. She had to come wide early on to get a position and she got the 7f nicely.
History Note was a touch unlucky in-running and finished strongly, with likely improvement to come having had just two runs, but i'd be surprsied if she is a Group 1 horse tbh. |

Empowering landed a substantial gamble in the 1,000 Guineas Trial Stakes at Leopardstown.
Although the apparent second string of the Aidan O'Brien operation, a notable gamble developed on the daughter of Encosta de Lago and from an opening show of 12-1, she was backed down into 11-2. Drawn 12, she was bounced out of the stalls quickly by Joseph O'Brien to secure an early position and this was to prove to be a wise move as the fillies were to converge towards the far rail and space was to come at a premium. Taking the lead after the first furlong, O'Brien kicked on again as the field swept around the home turn and his filly gave willingly to his urgings from the saddle to post victory by one-and-three-quarter lengths. O'Brien senior said: "She looked very smart the last day (when winning at Dundalk). She was drawn badly today but she kept building along. "Joseph's claim is down to 3lb after that and this filly will likely go for the English Guineas now.'' Wild Wind, who had been easy to back beforehand, made headway to chase the winner inside the final furlong at a respectable distance whilst History Note, who was sent off as the 3-1 favourite did not enjoy the cleanest of passages but made eye catching headway inside the closing stages to finish a never nearer third. |

Joseph put up 1lb overweight.

I can't see anything in the race today making the frame in a month or so and certainly not the 2 Bolger runners that I had been interested in. I think Hurricane Havoc may be up to winning at listed level or maybe slightly higher but probably over 10f or thereabouts.
Had a shocking weekend and then I had a speculative tenner on the Jabel Abdullah runner in the last at Leopardstown[:)][:)][:)]. There was no skill involved I just thought there was value in a few at bigger prices. My main fancy for the 1000 Guineas this year wears the same colours, come on Majestic Dubawi. |
|
By:
Empowering has been laid off the boards on here, despite AO'B having said after the race (see sintonian's post) that she'll run at HQ. I hope nothing amiss has occurred, and the filly remains healthy even if there has been a swift rethink.
|
|
By:
Only just over £200 matched on here here,Ramruna. Current price is 30 which is about right.
I wouldn't be surprised to see her make the frame given Aiden gets so much improvement from his fillies and she stays well, but i'd not want to back anything from yesterdays race until they have shown more. |
|
By:
Great thread ! Just having a casual flick thro some upcoming events and realised this is 33 days away !!
Has anyone got any views on Zaminast ?This filly showed an extraordinary change of gear to win v.snugly at Galway last July - I remember being blown away at the time. A live one imo if HQ is the intention. |
|
By:
Dermot Weld hasn't had a single runner in the 1000 Guineas for at least 20 years, so I think it's highly unlikely that we'll see Zaminast in the line-up. She will most probably be kept for the Irish Guineas (a race in which Weld has had numerous runners). In any case, Zaminast is in the same ownership as Helleborine (a leading contender for the Guineas and an intended runner).

By:
Havant for me, will stay, has a tremendous finish will like quick ground and reported on course for a trial before the Guineas. This one could do the Guineas/Oaks double.

12/1

I agree with eric ^^^

By:
Has there been any definite news about Havant? Can't remember hearing anything about her recently. Her stablemate Cape Dollar is a probable runner.
|
|
By:
I've not read a thing james but I notice she has been well supported on here (currently 8.6). I thought that was a top performance in the Oh So Sharp Stakes and you can't ask for a better man than Stoute to be preparing her. I did take the 50s Blue Sq offered on her to win that race at HQ and go on to win the 1,000 so I'm possibly slightly biased in my view

Any news on Zoowraa? Trading at 60 now
. Can only assume Godolphin have done their usual and messed up a filly who looked Guineas material in Michael Jarvis's care. |
|
By:
In todays RPost Stoute says Havant is ready for a run in the Nell Gwyn or Fred Darling before taking in the Guineas. Thinks she will go on fast ground.
I'm in, no filly has impressed me more than her. |
|
By:
Jeez just noticed the money for Havant this morning on oddschecker across the board, got 12s first thing.
Now general 6s and 7s, 8s strong vibes imo. |
|
By:
Yes, I've just read the article in the Racing Post. Sounds like Havant is definitely being prepared for the Guineas. I like her very much, but there are one or two I like even more at this stage.
re: Zoowraa. Here are Simon Crisford's comments about her at the recent media open morning at Al Quoz: "She won her Listed race on soft ground at Newbury and obviously has not competed at a higher level. She has got a fair bit to prove. If the ground happened to be soft, it would be interesting. She would have the French 1,000 Guineas (Poule d’Essai des Pouliches) as an alternative and that race might suit her better than the Newmarket Classic." |
|
By:
Only had her the Oaks before that.

Havant backed for everything this morning, 1000G, Oaks, King George & Arc

This is what we know at the moment about the leading contenders: White Moonstone, Helleborine, Memory, Hooray, Havant, Moonlight Cloud and Laughing Lashes are all reportedly on course for the Guineas. Helleborine and Moonlight Cloud are likely to run in the Prix Imprudence on 7 April, while Memory and Havant are likely to take in a trial at either Newbury or Newmarket. White Moonstone, Hooray and Laughing Lashes will probably head straight to the Guineas. No definite news about Misty For Me (in line with normal Ballydoyle policy).

By:
Sir Mark P is having a press day today apparently. He said to Matt Chapman earlier today she is far from certain to run at this stage, but we'll find out in due course.
|
|
By:
Chris Richardson of Cheveley Park Stud said a while ago that they would let Hooray take her chance in the Guineas 'all being well'. Perhaps Sir Mark is just being his usual cautious self - he has always been rather sceptical about the filly's chances of getting a mile.
|
|
By:
Well, there do seem to be some grounds for Sir Mark's lack of optimism concerning Hooray:
Sir Mark Prescott remains unconvinced about Hooray's chances in the Qipco 1000 Guineas as he revealed a cluster of concerns. After the filly won a succession of good races last season, culminating in a four-and-a-half-length victory in the Group One Cheveley Park Stakes, the trainer dropped heavy hints she would be unlikely to have the scope to make a serious three-year-old. He intends to get her to the Classic at Newmarket on May 1, but is not exactly enthusing about her in his latest bulletin. He said: "She was the best filly and on ratings was 2lb above the rest. The drawback is she just hasn't grown - she's the same size. Her family very often don't train on, and I've had quite a few of them. She hasn't particularly thrived as I have started to work her now. The main thing for all trainers this time of year, with trying to get them ready, is whether they eat, and she is not eating as well as I'd like at the moment. So whether she gets there or not, I don't know. But we'd like to try and whether she stays, I don't know. I've got to hope, rather as John Gosden once said, that the Guineas is the last two-year-old race of the year and I was the best two-year-old, so that's the hope. She wasn't a good eater early on but she thrived later in the summer and I suspect that's the nature of the beast, rather like daffodils coming at the same time of year. I suspect her time is probably later in the year." He went on: "What we decided was she had to start work today or she couldn't run in the Guineas. So we worked her this morning and she was fine. She wasn't very fast, obviously, in her first work, and I'll see how she goes this week. If she thrives we'll keep going and if she doesn't thrive, we'll have to stop and wait for something better. What I'm not going to do is what has been forced on many trainers over the years - pushing one - and then you wind up with no horse at all. We can think about a mile at Ascot in June when she's come to hand perhaps, I don't know. She'd need to do better than she's done the last couple of weeks for me to run." |
|
By:
Backed Havant for the oaks 14-1 last year, managed 10 -1 for the guineas this morning, just had 25-1 for the double this evening 365,the vibes for are good, doubles across the card with Frankle for me,good punting everyone.
|
|
By:
blimey you wouldn't want to back her in a southwell seller going by what SMP has to say.Her pedigree does shout two year old but he seems very downbeat
|
|
By:
Havant's very short now for the 1000, she has a fair old knee action, hasn't tackled the 'likely' faster ground, and is bred for a lot further. Wouldn't see which way Helleborine and other speedier types went.
