That could have been greeness bobby tbf. Doubt he has had a horse run past him like that before, if he has learned from that then he will win. Not sure whether anything in here will be good enough to draw up alongside him tbh let alone pass him but its all about opinions.

Many thanks for your reply bobby!! Best of luck with IC! My money will be on him again!

Imperial Commander / Denman - one two, it is then ! best of luck

I know what you mean Bobby, I felt the horse had a startled expression when Menorah went by, but who could blame him?. However I don't think he folded but kept galloping all the way to the line albeit at the one pace. I don't recall ever having a winner in the opener (I once put myself off Tourist Attraction at a big price because I liked the look of Ventana Canyon in the paddock) so I feel I'm due one, albeit I agree the price is short. I read that the trainer was worried about the size of the field - it can be a bit like the charge of the light brigade in the first.
Do you know who rides Imperial Commander's Warwick work companion Oscar Magic in the bumper? Sam couldn't have judged the pace better first time out, though I see that Paddy no longer has the ride on Keys due to its withdrawal. Another ante-post bet down the swanney. |

Hi R&W (not B&W of course). Just been a bit busy lately but back for the festival!
I went to Cheltenham when I'd backed Brave Inca ap at 14's for £25 e/w in the Supreme so that was a good day. Very fortunate to see that one live with a future gold cup winner just behind.I remember them both miles clear with the Irish roaring them on up the hill, very windy that day if I remember.I don't like doing short prices in the Supreme so i won't be on Cue Card (Amaretto Rose even with the excuses that day) for example. BD isn't far off the mark most of the time and is a ruddy good judge so I'll be on Sprinter e/w. All the best next week. |
|
By:
R&W your last post got me thinking - I have now arrived at the view that Cue Card needs further. May be crazy, but watched it again and at one pace decribes it perfectly. Dont think Oscars Magic will run.

I honestly thought the longer Neptune race was the best novice option for him Bobby as he's guaranteed to stay the trip, and the way he jumps extra hurdles would be in his favour, but it didn't ever seemed to be a consideration. Thanks for news on OM and hope everyone enjoys the week win or lose.
I have a 10 hour megabus ride to look forward to on Sunday - times are 'ard up north - but at least there will be plenty of time to study the form. Ackertac looks like he'll get in the handicaps off bottom weight. Would like to see him in the Coral though it looks a very hot race to be fair so I can see why connections might go for the Pertemps instead. Come on the Commander! |
|
By:
Now told OM may run, will try to get a definitive answer. We have to catch up when you get down there, give me a ring. Watched it again and agree the Neptune would have been the race IMHO - may be forced to eat my words if he wins by half the track.

By:
can anyone really see the winner out of the first 4 in the betting? similar to last year i think...
|
|
By:
Sweaty, the form of that supreme helped me to formulate the opinion that WAR OF ATTRITION could win the GOLD CUP, plus he had beaten the previous GOLD CUP winner pretty comfortably in WARS season.
|

Cheers Bobby, it would be good to stop one going sour at some stage. I'll give you a call. Can't wait to get cracking. First pint planned for 9:30am Tuesday, not counting Monday night of course! Vital for me that CC is ridden prominently and sent on down the hill. Enough about him though, plenty more fish in the sea. At least the first will help me make up my mind about the Champion Hurdle.

Hope Imperial Commander is ok, he was running a marvellous race.
|
|
By:
sorry to see that, hope he's well

Hard luck Bobby. History up until recent years suggests it is very difficult to win two Gold Cups.
Three reasons probably cost you the Gold Cup: (1) Trainer being out of form (2) Ground wasn't soft enough (3) Didn't have a prep run Will you keep faith with Paddy brennan if he leaves the stable in the summer? Best of luck going forward |
|
By:
why would Paddy be leaving, Meat ?

By:
Unconfirmed rumour that he is unhappy playing second fiddle to Sam Twiston-Davies. Willy will presumably start taking a few rides next season as well.
|
|
By:
Oh yeah see what you mean. Sam done very well so likely to get some big rides.
|
|
By:
Bobby you have been very generous with your opinions, I for one greatly appreciate that, Imperial Commander has done ALL who appreciate a good horse magnificently, he does Nt owe me anything.
Thanks Bobby. |
|
By:
Was running another cracker. Hope he is ok, heard he was lame and burst a blood vessel. Always amazes me how people write him off. He had to be at least second if he hadn't bulldozed the 4th last.I watched the M Line this morning only to hear Little Lord Fauntleroy comment 'as Imperial Commander faded the cream rose to the top'. Too much snobbery in this game. I reckon he could still give Long Run a run for his money next year. I just hope he's ok.

Not another rumour where you make it up, think it yourself alone and then pretend its common rumour? WALOFS you post |
|
By:
So you think that Paddy was happy with the rides he was given at Cheltenham? Sybarite who supposedly could be the next Imperial Commander according to the trainer was given to Sam even though he couldn't claim in the race.
And this "rumour" has been circulating since Little Josh winning the Paddy Power so i am not making anything up. |
|
By:
Hi Bobby, hope he is ok, i'm sorry y'day did not go well, IC has been so unlucky this yr with the injury and missing his prep and now this. Hope he is back next yr bigger and stronger and better than ever. Adore the great horse and hope he is well. Take care. RC.

If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same... |

By:
Hope IC is ok Bobby. Travelled beautifully until he went wrong. A real shame we were denied his presence in the finish, sure he would have been there or thereabouts.
Paddy is being very open about how pissed off that Sam is getting the better rides, and that there has been a falling out, know no more than that. Paddy was more than happy to tell my mate who was in one of the hospitality boxes at the festival this week the above having never met him before. |
|
By:
Glad somebody has confirmed that I am not "making up stories" I am simply telling everyone what has been going round the racing world for 6 months.
I really don't see why Twiston-Davies snr is in such a rush to promote his son to number one stable jockey? To me it makes perfect sense to have Paddy as number one jockey for at least the next 2 seasons, with Sam as second jockey and Willy claiming next season. This would probably mean sacking off England and Molloy which is a shame considering David England was supposedly "going to be the next champion jockey". So where does Paddy Brennan go next season? Surely he is too good just to ride for Tom George? |
|
By:
He is sound and happy in his field, was travelling like a dream until he burst and bled from both nostrils. Never done it before, and looked magnificent on the day so a mystery so far.
We will work on tracking down the reason and decide what the next steps are. The main thing is he is sound, safe and happy. Paddy rides Imperial Commander and his position will not change irrespective of the stables decision on jockeys going forward. |

Wanted to post my reflections on the race seperately to the IC update. Great race and a fantastic climax to the week, anyone who had doubts about Long Run has no argument now - jumped well and stayed every yard, a worthy and brilliant champion. Exceptional performance by Kauto Star and great to see a former champion put up such a brave and bold challenge. Denman is simply awesome, winner of a Gold Cup and second in three, a true warrior - a vintage Gold Cup for many reasons.
|
|
By:
Fair play to you BD you are a great sport. Hope the commander can come back and get a few wins for you next season
|
|
By:
Thanks for the brilliant insight Bobby. You are a true gem.
Is it just me or does Twiston-Davies have very few decent novice hurdlers or novice chasers this season? Seems strnage considering he has had a brilliant couple of seasons? |
|
By:
It was unfortunate that he bled Bobby. Hope he'll be back fit and well next season. All the best.
|
|
By:
Bobby - thanks the update - my family all hope he recovers fully. Wonderful horse. Agree too regarding the big race. Truly vintage renewal, absolute pleasure to be there. PFN deserves so much credit for his handling of his horses.

I see the Paddy Brennan news has been officially confirmed. I think its a real shame and will backfire on Nigel. I just don't see am as a top class jockey yet - maybe in a few years.
|
|
By:
Who's decision was it though ? Paddy's or Nigel ..
.. but I agree ..losing paddy is a big loss. His experience is invaluable. |
