The Irish are right, a dog running the wrong way is obviously not outside interference but it constitutes a danger to other dogs
Thought welfare was always supposed to come first? |

Lads, I posted last night what the rules are and how a race can be declared a "No Race" , The greyhound turning back does not constitute outside interference and the Stewards can not declare the race a "No Race" on that basis . PF raised an important point in that people went onto the racetrack and tried to catch the greyhound from running down the wrong way or they tried to get the greyhound to turn around and race the correct way around the racetrack . The question the Stewards had to decide, was those people's actions "outside interference". If the Stewards decide no , then the race stands , if they decided it was "outside interference" the race is declared a "No Race" , it is as simple as that . However where PF is incorrect if the race is a "No Race" the race is VOID , no ifs or buts , VOID . Therefore the three dogs which pasted the finishing line can not progress into the next round as the race is VOID, Consequently the race would have to be re run . Secondly, the hare driver did his job perfectly as per what the rules are , the hare driver was not entitled to stop the hare as per the rules . Thirdly , should the rules be now looked into and maybe changed , that is another issue altogether, the decision what had to be made on the night by the Stewards has to be based on the rules, not on what some people on this forum , think what should be the rules. One finally point to PF , yes you are correct in all the years you and I have gone greyhound racing I have never, from recollection, remembered the hare being stopped when a greyhound turned back in a race or more recently since they now only have a small inside rail where a greyhound can now jump the rail and run across the inside of the racetrack, the reason being that the hare driver is not entitled to stop the hare as per what the rules as at present.

so RTD where do you stand on,the two men on the track.was that outside interference or not(one of which was not named as a steward on the card)

must be a contentious issue as it is not available to be viewed on the igb website

The Key to the race is 4 , the Dog has stopped chasing ,no if or Buts ,he may well have won I am very surprised the result was allowed to stand ...
The 2nd Point is if a Dog is running the wrong way The hare should be stopped ... The Rule needs to be Clear .. |
|
By:
Wedge the race is on the Link I posted ...
|
|
By:
The rules over there need looking at, no problem with what happened re their rules, it is clear as put above, but fook me, as case said, 4 had a right old look at what was going on, that def affect the result.
|

the race can be seen all the normal places, just like to know why igb are trying to hide it
|

The dog that turned and ran back could have finished third, shows how stupid the decision was.

@casemoney , as per the rules the hare can not be stopped even when a greyhound turns back and races in the wrong direction on the racetrack. What caused trap 4 to ease up ? was it the people out on the racetrack or was it the greyhound which fell and raced down the racetrack in the wrong direction? As I said earlier the Stewards have to decide based on the rules as they are now. Also they have to make that decision on the rules and be confident that what decision they made would and could be defended in a Court of Law if challenged in a Court of Law.
@Mesi, The decision of the Stewards on the night has to be based. on the rules as they are, and that decision should be capable of standing up or at least be defended , if challenged in a Court of Law . Let's take an example , when a greyhound is knocked over and races back down the racetrack and he interfered with the oncoming leading greyhound and the leading greyhound slowed down and was passed by another greyhound which was in second place at the time of the interference , the second greyhound reaches and passes the finishing line in first place and the leading greyhound passes the finishing line is second place . but clearly the leading greyhound would have won the race but for the greyhound turning back and interfered with him, that result must stand as per the rules as they are now. Imagine the same example and some people jump out onto the racetrack at the first bend to try to catch the greyhound which had being knocked over and which subsequently races down the racetrack in the wrong direction the people stand at the first bend or get off the racetrack and but they are NOT INVOLVED in the greyhound subsequently interfering with the leading greyhound , in my opinion as per the rules that result must stand and the race can not be declared a "NO RAcE". The other example is the same scenario , but the people go onto the racetrack say at the 550 yards box , that is 50 yards before the finishing line. They see the knocked over greyhound racing down the home straight and try to catch the greyhound , but at this time the other greyhounds are following the hare and as these people are still on the racetrack one or more of the dogs got distracted , and even if only one greyhound got distracted , by even one of the people on the racetrack then that in my opinion would be "outside interference" and the Stewards must declare the race void and a "NO RACE" so to answer your question , if the greyhound in Trap 4 get distracted by the greyhound racing down the racetrack and was only distracted by the greyhound racing down the racetrack , then the Stewards must let the result stand as per the rules . However if the Trap 4 greyhound got distracted by one of the people out on the racetrack , that in my opinion would constitute "outside interference " and the race should be declared VOID and it would then be a "NO RACE" and a re run would have to take place to determine the three greyhound which would qualify in the re run to progress to the next round . |

What we need to consider now is the future and are we happy about the rules as they stand in Ireland. I would argue that most people think that the hare needs to be stopped when a greyhound turns back on the grounds of safety. Perhaps forum members might like to give their view on whether the rules should be changed of left as they are.

...am I missing something? All this about outside interference. There are many more ways than that for a race to be declared null and void
Ie, course not being completed in a reasonable time Welfare, welfare, welfare the bottom line! |
|
By:
@woodmanchester, can you write out for me the Irish rules that the Stewards of the meeting can declare a race null and void. I would very much like to see those rules and especially the one you gave an example of , your example was "course not being completed in a reasonable time" Can you reply with the exact rule that would allow the Stewards to declare your example as a null and void race? Thanks .

@Sparrow, an intelligent comment on the forum , not like most others wanting their rules or what they perceive to be the rules to be implemented. Don't forget many years ago a greyhound was disqualified for fighting in a round of the Irish Greyhound Derby and the greyhound owner went to the Courts to get an injunction to stop the Irish Greyhound Derby proceeding. The application was successful and the Irish Greyhound Derby would nor proceed on the designated night. The owner then went back to get another Court injunction to stop the Irish greyhound Derby proceeding for a second time , but was mot granted the injunction, so remember the Stewards must implement the rules as they are and not as what forum members think they should be . To your question Sparrow and a very VALID question, in my opinion the rules as they are , need to be changed, to allow the hare driver to stop the hare on grounds of safety . that rule should allow the hare driver to stop the hare in the event of a greyhound turning back and running head on, in the direction of the other greyhounds chasing the electric hare. Whether the greyhound turning back , just turns back in the race, or when such greyhound is knocked over during the race, and turns back or jumps the inside rail and runs across the infield of the racetrack or even when the greyhound chases and maybe then turns back during the course of the race. Also the hare driver should be allowed under the rules to stop the hare if in the event of another greyhound(not running in the given race ) getting loose , an example, a greyhound getting loose in the car park or in kennel area , during the course of a race and such greyhound gains access to the racetrack and runs in the opposite direction to the racing greyhounds then the hare driver under the new rule should have the power to stop the hare. Remember the new rules have to allow the hare driver to stop the hare as per the conditions of the rule . What are your views ?

I will put my two bobsworth in. From a greyhound point of view please be clear its 100% correct the 3 dogs are in nxt round without having to re run. They would have bin at a huge disadvantage having bin made to do so. THEMS THE RULES have bin for a very long time. If you dont like them dont bet on it. If u feel that strongly about it e mail write or telephone igb n let them know how u feel. It dont make it right wot append. In the current climate with the anti brigade growing ever stronger can u imagine the outcry if a dog had got hurt. Would av bin a case of getting the hard hats n flak jackets on. Hopefully the igb may revisit the rule book after the derby n c or even have a vote amongst the trainers n c wot they think the way forward is. Imo we have no right or expectation on the people who run the sport over there as its always bin run under a different set of rules.

Dublin, I cant. Just think they should take a leaf out of the GBGB book
There should be loads and loads of no races if you interpret the rule "hare must be kept within reasonable distance of the leading greyhound" literally |
|
By:
@ woodmanchester . thanks for reply , you see the Stewards of the meeting can only implement the rules as they are. Not what people think the rules should be. If someone writes on the forum saying this should have been void , they need to explain on what basis could the Stewards have declared the race VOID as per the rules as they are now . However if someone writes on the forum and says "I think the rule should be changed to allow …………… what there suggestion is , that is perfectly acceptable . and lets debate those suggestions, but please FORUM MEMBERS don't come on saying this should have happened and that should have happened , if the rules don't allow the Stewards to do it. One other point you said , if "course not completed in a reasonable time" , what would you classify as a reasonable time . say for example the 525 yards distance ? in Ireland . What cut off time would you have in the new rules to allow the Stewards to void such a race ? Just think about your suggestion , a race is run and a dog fights at the first bend , the dogs slow down but don't stop completely , then the hare driver slows the hare and keeps the hare in an acceptable distances in front of the greyhounds , then the greyhounds take off at full speed and at the third bend the fighting dog , fights again and the field slow down , but are still running , they then take off at full speed and finish the race in 31.70 , which is one second outside qualifying time . Should such a race be allowed to stand or be declared as a VOID race ?

Dublin, racing manager's discretion
|
|
By:
ah that is a cop out , you wrote in a previous message that a race can be declared null and void ie. course not being completed in a reasonable time. I gave you an example , and you replied "Dublin, racing manager's discretion" . Sadly the Stewards of the meeting cannot use their discretion, there decision must be based on the rules and the decision must be capable of being defended in a Court of Law if challenged .

I watched such a race return to dublin at waterford recently. Never saw a dog fight as bad in 50 yrs. In england i think the rule woody referring to was introduced to foyle race wreckers.

Dublin, I was saying some races would be null and void in England
Re-race ran in reasonable time, who else but the racing manager could decide that? Anyway, Killmacdonagh was already my second largest payout but gone in again at 15/2 It looks like the big 3 will take some holding and Killmacdonagh has already easily beaten Magical Bale and Lenson Bocko in this competition Just hope she doesnt come in season! ![]() |

Killmacdonagh - will leave too much to do next round imo.
