If you're referring to Woody he has backed this years winner imvho
By:
doesn't interest me PF, most years its won by a dog that people hardly considered
what with the format, the going bias, the bowser, the 3 quick runs etc the comp is basically a guess |
By:
Cannot agree with a lot of that, first round format I agree, I despise it, I don't think there has been that bad a going bias most years (nothing that would worry me anyway), the 3 quick runs I know annoys lots of people and I have had plenty of ante post bets go out quarters and semis but there is no advantage in those 3 quick runs to either early pacers or stronger dogs looking at past results (just need a tough dog).
Yes there is guesswork involved in the competition as there is in any ante post bet on dogs but you can still get value, this year there is a huge lack of good wide seeded runners, at the moment no more than five 100/1 or under. |
By:
the things I mentioned format etc just increases the randomness in the comp to benefit hills and the other firms and they are ON TOP of the normal things that go with A/P betting on comps ie not running through choice/injury, bad draws etc
I will happily sit back and watch without financial involvement it won't spoil it for others if people want to play the comp balls deep up to them its a free country |

By:
Lads, when does the first round actually start and when is the draw being made?
By:
it starts the week beginning 2nd may will either be the weds or thurs of that week depending on the number of entries
not sure about the draw but last year was on rpgtv (weekend before the 1st round??) |
By:
Thanks. It really is a shame they did not learn from last years first round debacle. Makes it much harder to last the competition as dogs have to be well ready for the first round or risk going home.
Does anyone know if a bitch has ever won the English Derby? If not, how many have tried and failed? |
By:
Thousands I imagine have tried and failed, Farloe Verdict is the last bitch to win it but she was runner up in the final and was awarded it after the winner was disqualified for testing positive.
By:
sarahs bunny 1979 the last bitch to win it,geoff de mulder i think?
By:
Farloe Verdict 2003- by default tho after Droopys Hewitt was dq a while after race
Before that 1979, Sarah's Bunny It's obviously really hard as they are naturally smaller, have seasons, take longer to recover between races and probably generally are more draw dependant, been loads entered obviously since- how many are genuinely top class is debatable |
By:
Correct PF Woody always backs the winner
By:
Haha well out of the little sample (well huge by most people's terms) he has given us I think he might have it in there, no doubt he'll have every other dog that may go fav during the comp backed as well
By:
bitches have a much better record in irish derby
By:
That's interesting? Maybe an argument that the draw dependant thing is more prevalent at Wimbledon than Shelbourne?
Obv touch wood a bitch goes far this year ha, I'm confident but what's new |
By:
I suppose the tougher scheduling must have an effect along with track configuration?
By:
I guess we can expect a monster trial from Droopys Latina tomorrow looking at oddschecker, fierce fast dog when everything drops right
By:
Droopys Latina reminds me of Droopys Nidge. Agreed fast dog but not for me.
