Who was the last one who was an absolute certainty? Oh, I remember - Droopys Nidge for the English. "An aeroplane, a machine, a tool"! Before him it was Kereight King for the Irish, and so on and so forth, and it was the same forumites blowing about them!. There are NO foregone conclusions over the six hardest rounds of racing known to greyhounds. The dog is brilliant, and IS running brilliantly but out of the top three rated in Ireland it's the only one without a classic win ( or a Puppy Derby ) to its name - and those three have ALL proved their endurance over six round comps, albeit Roddick ran up. Rocket is still to prove he has it. Put it this way, does this dog have the ability, the desire and the drive to put in, if he has to, a recovery run such as Jaytee Jet did in the English? I hope so because I like the dog but we've still to find out.

With respect Honcho, not sure what you want? Nidge was found to be lacking early (certainly not the case for Clares Rocket) and didn't Kereight King have a toe amputated? Furthermore, The Rocket is covering 550yds about 3 lengths quicker than Laughil Blake, so worthy of his high mantle, isn't he?

A couple of the shops have rocket at 4/1 but most have 5/1, seems tight enough ;having said that i wouldn,t mind having a few of the dockets that some of the greyhound foremites have here, Roll on one of the best sporting events in Ireland. i hope Boyles have the same deal as thay had in the last 2 runnings of the derby[ money back as a free bet if you dog get knockout in any of the 1st 3rounds] goodluck

Will Powers even bother to price the heats this year?
They seem to price no actual races from Shelbourne these days. |

the dogs i like for the comp at the prices they are / where:
Clares Rocket 8s, 7s - well done those on at the huge prices you've some bet, 5s is short to be betting him at but honestly would you want to be laying him at any bigger? He clearly has a favourites chance and if he keeps coming away as he has done the last 2 weeks he will win the Derby for me but as i said earlier on the thread he has thrown in some rubbish starts around Shelbourne although they where when a younger dog and he is much more professional now. He has proven during the Con and Annie Kirby and Produce Stakes he can hold his form through competitions and his record from February onwards is barely believable. Droopys Smasher 33s - i already love this bitch, it may sound a bit mad as she finished only 4th last week but i think you will near need to knock her over to stop her qualifying her way through the competition. She is absolutely awesome from halfway home and what she done on her Shelbourne debut a few weeks back to some real good dogs was staggeringly impressive. Even last week in defeat the running she did from the 3rd home after early trouble was so impressive. Runs tonight in a good 550y race and now seeded (m) for the first time. 25s (e/w) is still fair. Coolavanny Wendy 75,70,66s - Put up earlier on the thread why i liked the dog and what he has done since has done nothing to change my mind. He will need to start trapping better but he showed what i thought in coming from a good few lengths behind Paradise Maverik last week that he is a dog that can keep qualifying when he doesn't get things his own way early (after taking a fair whack on the corner). He will do a massive run when he gets it right at boxes. Skywalker Rory 50s - Personally think the dog is better than ever this year and has been running brilliantly. Won last years Leger around Limerick and made this years Easter Cup final with only Jaytee Jet too good in both semi and final. I do think he is just a wee but short in the very top class but the 50s was too big a price for a dog that has been running well in top class races and is proven in competitions. Peregrine Falcon 66s - Felt i had to make him some sort of a winner in the competition for me. His trial on Thursday is hardly great and it's all he has done since Wimbledon which is a worry but if he can go through the early rounds he should go a long way. This dogs last 4 competitions where the English Derby, Easter Cup, Leger, Irish Derby. He was a finalist in all those competitions which is some achievement, he definitely has the potential to go all the way to the final again. I see the Derby semi finals and final are being shown on RTE this year, great i am sure some/most will say. The semi final broadcast is on from 7pm-8:55pm, what a pile of wank i will say. So what fkin time is the card starting at that night? At least the final broadcast is 8pm-9:55pm. They're looking at something around 120 entries they say, if they do get that number it'll be first 4 through in all heats with 16 of the 5th places getting through as well. Hopefully they can get closer to 144 so then it'll only be 4th places qualifying. |

Do not be getting seduced by that offer, the first round sees 5 qualifying from 12 heats and 4 qualifying from the rest. You're best off just going to wherever you are getting the better price.

played:
Tyrur Blondie @ 10s and 8s - Thought she showed loads of pace last time from the 2nd home after getting into all sorts of trouble early over wanting to move off from 2, should be much better drawn in 6 and with 5 going rails can get a lovely run up. I think the top will lead around on the fence but don't have him as a strong stayer (the same with 3) which will make it hard for Charity Buster to get to the front. The 2 is the dangerous one as he has plenty of pace and stays well but will do well to get a run early for me. Diegos Ruby @ 10/3 and 11/4 - Peregrine Falcon will surely need the run and his latest sprint trial was very ordinary. As such I think the top has a great chance and can lead around on the fence and if doing so I would be disappointed if he where beaten. Combo Sidney would be the danger from a good make up. Holycross Leah @ 9/2 and 4/1 - Love her draw on the fence with slow trapping Coolykereen Jack outside her. I fully expect her to lead around and then she has a massive chance. Droopys Awesome may take advantage of slow away Jack in 2 as well but he ain't the best trapper and he has Vancouver Colin and sober Call going to be moving in on top of him, it could get messy for me and Leah will be gone. Slippery Snowy @ 5/1 - Like his make up, should get a solo to the corner with Shugabear Barber in 5 along side and if he can come away well could even lead or turn handy here. Droopys Smasher is a bitch I love but she is desperate short and I could not consider playing her at them prices, I would argue Skywalker Luke could even be a shorter price than her as if well away he could lead around on the fence. Ballymac Matt and Laughil Duke should win for short priced players, could give Grangeview Puma and Ela Alecko chances in heat 3 (may play later but hate the 2s draw with top stepping right boxes) |

Had already noted Sober Call but not always consistent. Highview Event and Escapism did quite well. Times not really there for Ballymac Matt and Laughil Duke but both made to work hard. Matt in particular looks very short at only 12/1 now. I got a bit of 20/1 beforehand

2nd half of round 1, hoping it's a wee bit better than the 1st half
Hovex Blaze @ 4/1 - (Farloe Joey will take the beating from 1 but at odds on he is not for me. Hovex Blaze is a dog that looked like he didn't want to win for a long time, July 2nd when he got picked up by Spoilsports Jet really hurt but since then he has won a good 575y race around Curraheen and then a good 550y race around Clonmel, perhaps the penny is finally starting to drop. The key here is that he can hold Keplar Nine on his outside to the corner and if he does i think he can lead around and then it should be game on.) Must Be Jack @ 9/2 - 4/1 (Think this is a brilliant race, Cahir Castle has a big chance if he can hold his pitch into the corner from the inside, Skywalker Manner has a massive chance if he can lead on the inside but Heathlawn Tiger could be a problem for him clearing the inside. Lenson Rocky is stepping up in trip and i think he is far enough out in 6 and he has to prove how well he will get the trip, he needs to lead for me. Leave At Dawn has not been showing any real early recently. Must Be Jack is an aeroplane when getting it right at the start, i like his draw here and if he can time his start right i think he will take all the beating.) Slippery Hector @ 9/2 (Think he has a cracking draw here to be honest and can pick up Droopys Nine up the straight. Droopys Nine will fly up along the fence and probably take them along but will he get home? Varra Sailor in 3 can go up real well too but he will leave plenty of space inside him on the corner and i am hoping that Hector can take advantage of it. Droopys Ford will be staying well as well but his draw looks tough with Blue Cafu on his outside another who will be looking to lead early but is vulnerable late on and will struggle to lead the top. The bottom Droopys Tee back ran Clares Rocket earlier in the year around Shelbourne and has a right chance from a good make up as well, i would not put anybody off playing her at 5s either.) Shaneboy Freddie @ 4/1 (Is he not the best draw dog of the night? Jumeirah Larry in 2 is fast away, goes up well but in both Shelbourne races has been middle run up and will surely move off again. That's a massive problem for GYP Rosetti who will also have Mynewbestfriend going rails from 4. **** Duke also has a really good draw here but he has been really disappointing and i could not say with any confidence he will make use of the good draw. Newlawn Simon @ 11/4 (All the early appears to be coming from 1 and 2, just follow them up and around in front of 4 and 5 and then he really ought to be winning.) Heat 13 is a belter and i fully expect Skywalker Rory to go off favourite here (despite Jet having a stunning draw), the 3/1 earlier on offer was a fair price. Heat 14 Roddick just needs to avoid Dutch on the corner. Heat 18 i really like Ballydoyle Honey's draw, think there is a fair chance she can turn in front of 5 and 6 and then she can pick up Burgess Popeye who is likely to lead the inside, i think we could get Evens on course tonight and i will be playing her at that. Heat 19 Mucho Macho Man has his draw and should take the beating, Henno's dog don't seem to have been running great however but you'd think he can lead around from this pitch. Heat 20 let's hope we see more fireworks from Clares Rocket Highview Apollo @ 10/1 (Heat 21 is very interesting. Personally i think the bottom 2 are drawn the wrong way around. In the Champion Stakes Tyrur Siucra ruined his own chance by moving in markedly approaching the corner and getting himself in trouble. On his inside is Kilgraney Denver who i think wants to be on the other side of him so if Siucra is not best at boxes which he has a habit of they could get into bother. Slippery Thelma will probably lead the inside but there may be a question mark if she will get home. Who will turn behind her off the rest i think it could be Highview Apollo if getting one of his better starts and if doing so he is a big runner, 10s seems big.) Should be a great nights racing |

Didn't think Clares Rocket would always bolt out but with odd moderate breaks like Saturday, very happy to be easily qualifying. Sure it'll all come good on the night. Lenson Rocky worked a minor miracle to get up and couldn't fault Droopys Roddick and Skywalker Rory
