Oi oi Long Run, 3/1!

Thought some performance to come again after those blunders in those conditions, stamina-laden. Chris an improver, like Conti. They left Crus for dead. Gold Cup wide open though with Bobs Worth and Flemenstar respected, too. Long Run has the experience though and gets the trip, maybe unlike others. Hard to believe he's only 7. Risky coz of his jumping round Cheltenham and think his amateur jockey half the problem. Nevertheless, had a fiver double Long Run-Hurricane Fly to win £192. Sticking with them after last year's disappointments.

Elsewhere, fancy 10/1 Far West (Triumph). Like Pont Alexandre too but that has a couple of options, so need to hold fire.

Good luck all! Happy

One horse for Cheltenham..... Won't be beaten in whatever race that he runs in, I would
even back him in the Gold Cup...... Simonsig!!!!
Will probably win the Sun Alliance, but with no Big Bucks I would run him in the World Hurdle and
return to chasing next year...

Simonsig will ge for the Arkle MB. He looks the perfect Arkle Chase horse, he has a high cruising speed, is a quick accurate jumper (on Ascot evidence), has a turn of pace and stays further than 2m.

I think that the Arkle winner won in Ireland yesterday.... Barring Simonsig of course!!!
I've read today that the Arkle is Simonsigs main target... As he as always run over longer trips I
thought that he would take a staying option... Still might as well win the Arkle and not the
gruelling Sun Alliance although I think that he will win a Gold Cup in the next few years!!!
Looks a machine......

Arvika Ligeonaire? Huge worry the way he jumped yesterday, jumped everything out to the right giving away chunks of ground in running which he won't get away with at the festival. If he where mine i'd go to the Powers Gold Cup at Fairyhouse with him and then the Punchestown Festival (both right handed).

Oscars Wells was disappointing or he got a cack ride, i can't really make my mind up but i'd say he will be better on better ground and i still think he may end up the best of our bunch for the Arkle.

I watch the race ( whilst waiting to see Captain Chris Cry ) thought Arvika travelled superb and wouldn't tire
so much on better ground, he was cantering 3 out and the rest were struggling, didn't notice the jumping right
but it was packed and a poor telly.... He looked awesome to me until getting tired approaching the last....
You know the horse far better than me (first time I had seen him).... I'll be taking more notice of him now though!!!
From now on, it's all about Cheltenham!!! Love Love

was at sandown december last year, remember having a tidy bet fingal bay thought was a good thing, simonsig was running all over him around the turn and as they came up the straight thought id done my money but fingal bay had race fitness on his side and battled on, simonsig went into my nosebook straight after that in the manner of richard birch and my happy days memory is having a chunkey ew wedge at the festival at 3/1 in the morning oi oi never in doubt within minutes i had friends texting me and phoning me saying what a judge i was great call oi oi youre a proper horse judge and it paid for the holiday and the wife's shopping and all the other b0ll0x he spouts.

the fly never ran at kempton in his life, kempton is always good to soft, never seen a gluepot like that before and it will take a long time for the front two to get over the mauling they got from the jockeys

I'd imagine Wonders means they are unlikely to regain their crowns after losing them like Comedy Of Errors did in the Champion Hurdle and Kauto Star did in the Gold Cup

that's it PF, those 2 are the only horses in history to regain their respective championship races, it's so unusual for any horse to do it let alone 2 in the same season Shocked

Sir Des Champs 8/1 for the Gold Cup MB, take it. That was as bad as he has ever jumped which was surpsising and he was still only beaten about 1/2L. On better ground around a track he clearly loves i seriously think he will piss up in the Gold Cup Grin

an off day that there wasn't an excuse for if I remember correctly, plus he's also missed 2 festivals, plus its a stronger renewal this year

should be some race, grandoet is a proper horse, rock on ruby, slightly favour darlan myself, the one i dont like is zarkandar unless ground is soft, just think something will have more pace than him and the champion this year he finished strong but from what i can remember (was p155ed the whole week) got tapped for a bit of toe but could have been talking **** with that last point.

Like many previous winners in a champion hurdle field , the horse has to have conditions in its favour , both the pace and the going,  to get your hard earned on early when its been heavy most of the winter is guessing in the extreme imho.

The fly is hard to train. Willie said he had no excuses after the race last year, despite admitting a few problems before the leop race last Jan which he won, the other day he said they were back to where they were two years ago, which suggests there was a problem last year . I'm not sure the genius has completly sussed the fly out , the strong pace and the mistake at the top hurdle on the farside did for him , coming back ten months later and saying the opposite to what you said at the time suggests the fly is an enigma unfortunately.

Rock On Ruby should never have ran at Aintree in my opinion, so many horses have hard races in Championship races at Cheltenham and then dissappoint if ran again that season (Denman and Kauto Star prime examples). It's easy to forgive him that run in my opinion.

He then went for the International over the new course at Cheltenham. He was carrying plenty of condition (Barry Geraghty even said so) the ground was totally against him, he was giving the winner 4lbs and it was his first run of the season. However watcht the race and Rock On Ruby was absolutely cantering all over Zarkandar turning in but simply blew up due to lack of a run against a race fit rival. I know who i thought was the one to take out of the race.

The Champion Hurdle should be a great race this year if they all get there, Darlan, Hurricane Fly, Grandoeut, Zarkandar, Rock On Ruby, Cinders And Ashes and Countrywide Flame. I wouldn't rule out Binocular either and i think Cotton Mill could be a contender at a big price if the ground is good as i'm convinced a fast run 2 miles will suit.

However i don't think the market is giving enough respect to Rock On Ruby and is basically saying last year was a fluke.

I agree ROR never got the credit for last year but its a better race this year

If the ground is decent, I'd want darlan, grandouet and cinders & ashes on side, if the ground is decent Laugh what a statement that is

since 1998, going on trials day (end of jan) compared with going at start of festival

2010 - soft v good to soft(good places)
2009 - heavy(soft places) v good to soft(soft places)
2007 - heavy(soft places) v soft(good to soft places)
2002 - heavy v good to soft(good places)
1999 - soft v good to soft(soft places)

hopefully january will be a fairly dry month because if its still testing for the pillar the festival aint starting on good ground

grands crus be a huge runner if it turned up for world hurdle. i went cheltenham last year, first time ive ever been. turned up monday afternoon with a good mate who is a bookie. stayed with some of his friends with a few spare rooms. anyway, pub 4pm, stayed until lock in (bookie mate home senisbly although not his staff!) 4 hours sleep, up, breakfast, suited, cheltenham. i wasnt working, so was on beer as soon as i got in. drinking all day, then in evening, for another lock in. some nights 3 hours sleep others 5 hours, either way, lock ins every night, totally hammered. on thursday after world hurdle day we went for really nice meal at a pub at bottom of jonjos yard, some stable staff and the like in there wouldnt shut up about synchronized so as i was laying kauto and long run anyway i chucked a few quid his way as you have to follow stable staff in they know everything! this time they drew. anyway, my liver, my body got a right going over that week, and friday i just wanted to come home, but had a mate in bristol i hadnt seen for 2 years, promised to see her, went there after gold cup day, back to london on saturday, brothers 40th that night. some respects, best week of my life, others, the very fecking worst! not going this year because of baby, but next year onwards i should imagine this will be a yearly venture now. all things considered, cheltenham is quality anyone who hasnt been really really should.
