Oi oi Long Run, 3/1!

Thought some performance to come again after those blunders in those conditions, stamina-laden. Chris an improver, like Conti. They left Crus for dead. Gold Cup wide open though with Bobs Worth and Flemenstar respected, too. Long Run has the experience though and gets the trip, maybe unlike others. Hard to believe he's only 7. Risky coz of his jumping round Cheltenham and think his amateur jockey half the problem. Nevertheless, had a fiver double Long Run-Hurricane Fly to win £192. Sticking with them after last year's disappointments.

Elsewhere, fancy 10/1 Far West (Triumph). Like Pont Alexandre too but that has a couple of options, so need to hold fire.

Good luck all! Happy

went to a preview evening in galway several years ago, a cheltenham jockey in attendance
he was specifically asked what were his chances in the arkle
after deflecting the question twice he was pursued to the point of embarrassment
he said his mount had a problem on soft ground on an undulating track taking fences at speed
the next obvious question was "why is it going to cheltenham then" but it was never asked
he won the arkle, and i wouldn't go near one of them preview nights again Cry

... anyway lads good luck on the week

its soft going now, the fingers are crossed for tuesday's meeting, the covers are down apparently but if frost gets into the ground that will be that!
I'm on Sunnyhill boy, Whispering Gallery , Lost Glory, Bostons Angel, No Secrets, Hisaabaat, Blackmail, Zarkander.... The lay of simonsig would be a nice bonus
If a few of them do happen to win thats the flights, the car and the hotel paid for but a postponement would be tragic. Cry

One more sleep until Champion Day.

Looked at my portfolio and got two running tomorrow, Tuesday

7/2 Overturn
5/1 Hurricane Fly

My Tent Or Yours looks terribly short but could run out an easy winner ahead of a strong Irish team, would you say?

Quevega shouldnt be troubled but hard to back at long odds-on and only for big-hitters. Think about 9/1 each-way Kentford Grey Lady could be worth a few shillings.

Good luck!

jlt - our mick, merry king, poole master, tullamore dew

champion - have wanted to take on hurricane fly if short but 9/4, 5/2 is a fair price tbh as the race has cut up, could be false pace they will ride him handier this year and he has tactical speed which zarkandar does not imo, no darlan, wrong ground for grandouet, rock on ruby, cinders and ashes = not much running for you if you're taking him on, so I have bet him

No Tote pools but nice day out given decent weather. Was looking at the track recently and only a shadow of its former self. Old Chieftain stand far side back straight demolished and no brightly coloured fountain in the centre anymore. Tote board defunct and theyre waiting for new carpets. No food but bar open and bar person will make you a cup of tea on request. Usually about 3 or 4 bookies standing inside but dont get it, nobody there and they all go the same prices.

Chelts passed inspection but first race likely to be delayed half hour or so

Day 2, Ladies' Day

Today's Bets:
7/2 Pont Alexandre. As highlighted in the initial post last December 12th, fancied this one but didnt know which race he was going for. The 8/1 for this went the day before i struck my bet, so obviously feel a bit cheated but still wasnt 100% sure it would be the Neptune.
5/1 Taquin De Seuil. Money back saver. Been following him and rate him the danger over The New One.

6/1 Bobston Bob. Only small.

Evens Sprinter Sacre. Could never be that price and hope Coral pay for it. May be one of the greatest 2 mile chasers ever. Some statement that when you consider there's been Master Minded, Moscow Flyer, Viking Flagship etc.
6/1 Sizing Europe. Money back saver. Knows what it takes to win this event and surely the only conceivable danger.

Good luck!

Stop talking utter nonsence, Paul Townend gave Boston Bob a fine ride, he produced the horse to win the race and the horse simply put down on him at the last [and i had him backed to win thousands].
Report Mustapha Bath March 13, 2013 10:40 PM GMT
Disagree PF...Shocked
I think Townend was over confident and thought he would win by 10 lengths...
He was cruising so he let him go, it's great when it works but I think the horse got lonely.
I don't know why he took him so close to the wing of the fence either. Confused
I still think that he would have won had he jumped it, the other horses closed because he slowed towards the
Fence...
I'm not blaming Townend for going so soo, but in hindsight, I bet he wishes that he had waited until the 2nd last to
Go!!!...
I backed him, not for thousands... 4 tenner s!!!

Last year in the Albert Bartlett everyone was giving Ruby Walsh abuse for his ride on Boston Bob saying why did he hold him up as he is a stayer after he rocketed up the hill for 2nd on the stiffer New Course. Yesterday Paul took it up turning for home to make use of his stamina. The horse was hanging towards the inside rail on the run to the last and when he should have jumped he simply put down, no jockey would have been able to do anything about that. As sickening as it was i thought the jockey produced him perfectly to win the race.

As for Pont Alexandre well he was not good enough on the day. They didn't set a strong enough pace to give him a chance. Either Ruby made a **** up [very unlikely] or the horse couldn't go any faster [more likely], he took forever to shake off Moore's outsider and the writing was on the wall then. Anyway he is a 3m chaser in the making [while The New One is a Champion Hurdle possible next year] and i'd imagine will be made a short enough favourite for next years RSA Chase already.

Everything was going along beautfiully until the 2nd race yesterday and then i got a kick in the nuts. Still i've been freerolling since day 1 ended so everything else is a bonus, just don't want anymore last fence fallers!!!!

Very pleased with 5/1 At Fishers Cross, could still have won if Ballycasey ran but his withdrawal handed it on a plate really. Thought all my horses ran really well today and fractionally in profit on the Festival. Well, so much better than all the money lost last year

You came with a wet sail PF, think you got the last 3 winners (although dont think Salsify would have won.) Pleased it makes up for Boston Bob, as At Fishers Cross did for me. Really wanted Far West or Long Run. Both ran creditably, but put in their place

Grand Annual will be the JP McManus benefit in my opinion. Alderwood @ 7/1 NR-NB and Kid Cassidy @ 10/1 NR-NB.

Alderwood looks chucked in again this year just like last year in the County Hurdle but there is no fancy prices, however 7/1 is still a fair price. He has been running on crap ground all year again, gets a lovely mark for this and with the improvement he will show for the better ground he looks ridicolous well in.

As for Kid Cassidy they have not tried a jot on him all season, they have made excuse after exucse why they could not put him in the race and of course the stewards just accept it. Anyway we all know Nicky Henderson loves to win this race and he is down to what looks a very good mark, i seriously doubt they will hold him up detached miles out the back this time.

Laugh good old plot jobs!!! great ending to a great festival Grin

A REASON why Simonsig was not his usual flamboyant self when winning Tuesday's Racing Post Arkle has come to light, Nicky Henderson said on Saturday.

The grey was expected to win with ease, but Barry Geraghty had to get serious with the 8-15 favourite before beating 33-1 shot Baily Green by two and a quarter lengths.

Henderson said: "Simonsig's scope wasn't quite right after the race. I did think during the race that things weren't quite right with him; he seemed to be running away from something.

"We certainly know he's better than that. It's probably as well we didn't scope him immediately before the race, otherwise he wouldn't have run."

The trainer reported that Oscar Whisky, who was pulled up in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle, for which he was 9-4 favourite, was not sound the following morning.

"He was slightly lame," Henderson said. "We've not found anything dramatically wrong but we'll do a few tests."

Riverside Theatre, who was staying on in the closing stages of the Ryanair Chase, will run again this season and move back to three miles.

It is looking doubtful whether Bobs Worth will run again this season, although plans will not be finalised for another week for the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup hero, who turned out looking remarkably fresh at Seven Barrows in Lambourn on Saturday despite his tough race in the mud.

Henderson said: "Aintree is only three weeks from Cheltenham and Bobs Worth puts so much into every race. He'll give everything for you, day and night. He seems fine this morning but we'll delay a decision for a week over whether he'll run again this season. It's too soon to decide."

However, Long Run, third to Bobs Worth, is almost certain not to reappear until next season. Owner Robert Waley-Cohen said: "He has run a great race again but I think that'll be it for the season."

Sprinter Sacre is right on target for Punchestown following his stunning win in Wednesday's Sportingbet Queen Mother Champion Chase and looks set to be joined at the festival by Grandouet, who was travelling well when falling in the Stan James Champion Hurdle
